dinner and lunch

we had two meals during our weekend stay, and both were very good. I can thoroughly recommend their steak and ale pie, which is made with local hookey beer. My wife had beef for sunday lunch and I had a cheese encrusted cod portion, both were very good. Very popular so you need to book a table, and... read more

Beautiful building, albeit a little tricky in places if you're over 5ft 5! It's definitely worth a visit with lovely decor, friendly staff and great food. A good selection on the regular menu and a large number of "specials" to choose from too. Our food arrived piping hot and was really fresh and tasty. Really happy with our visit, would... More

Me and quite a few friends from around chipping norton and cornwall booked in last minute for dinner last week & we were met by the lovely landlady and have a great time!! Dinner was first class as was our first visit and we hung around and had a drink or two with the locals!! Great fun!! Keep it up... More

We had preordered food, as we were a large group. The tables were crowded, scarcely room for one glass each, no space for water & being on the end meant constant jostling. Everyone praised main courses: pork belly, goats cheese, braised beef. Desserts were also mostly good: bread & butter pudding, creme brulee. But the 'rich chocolate cheescake' was more... More

Popped in for lunch whilst researching our family tree. Had Scallop & Bacon salad & the Raspberry & Rhubarb Bavois - both lovely but the Bavois was about the best I've had - excellent. The latte's were also very good. Nice little sheltered garden, friendly service, quaint pub with conservatory so plenty of seating - & the obligatory pub cat... More

I had lunch here on a weekday, with a group of mothers and babies. Despite having booked in advance and having mentioned at the time of booking that we were a group of mothers and babies, on arrival we were treated with considerable coldness and unfriendliness. One member of staff muttered about our "taking over the restaurant" ( it was... More

Had a meal here Saturday night, we had booked and was glad we did. The place is very popular, and after meeting the staff and eating the food can understand why. The beer was good, shame I had to drive as could have sunk a couple more. The quail scotch eggs to start were amazing, and the fish curry just... More

If you want a traditional English pub with good ale and good food with friendly service, this will tick all the boxes. We've been going there fairly regularly for some months now and we are very happy. It is not '5 star wow' but is is everything that you expect from a quintessential English pub, with well prepared unpretentious food.... More

Lots of things make up the perfect pub...the setting...mine host...the staff ...the food ..the company....this place has them all. Three old friends called in for lunch after an 8 mile walk around the stunning North Oxfordshire country side that the Crown sits in. Great value food ,Fritto Misto, fish cakes and goats cheese omelette and three clean plates, broke the rules... More
