A jewel of a pub

Had a meal here Saturday night, we had booked and was glad we did. The place is very popular, and after meeting the staff and eating the food can understand why. The beer was good, shame I had to drive as could have sunk a couple more. The quail scotch eggs to start were amazing, and the fish curry... read more

I had lunch here on a weekday, with a group of mothers and babies. Despite having booked in advance and having mentioned at the time of booking that we were a group of mothers and babies, on arrival we were treated with considerable coldness and unfriendliness. One member of staff muttered about our "taking over the restaurant" ( it was... More

If you want a traditional English pub with good ale and good food with friendly service, this will tick all the boxes. We've been going there fairly regularly for some months now and we are very happy. It is not '5 star wow' but is is everything that you expect from a quintessential English pub, with well prepared unpretentious food.... More

Lots of things make up the perfect pub...the setting...mine host...the staff ...the food ..the company....this place has them all. Three old friends called in for lunch after an 8 mile walk around the stunning North Oxfordshire country side that the Crown sits in. Great value food ,Fritto Misto, fish cakes and goats cheese omelette and three clean plates, broke the rules... More

My wife and I went to The Crown last night armed with a Groupon voucher which cost £22. We had a 2 course dinner each and enjoyed mouth full. Starters were broccoli soup and I had an amazing (must have been homemade) terrine with ham, duck and chicken, delicious. Lemon sole for main and for me was belly pork, all... More

It's been some time since we dined at the Crown. We found it a bit pricey for the portion sizes the last visit. Last week we decided to give it another try, and celebrate my wife's birthday with a meal there. I ordered the beef in ale pie. I was really disappointed. The individual pie had obviously been thawed from... More

We used a groupon voucher here last week and had very good food. the groupon menu is restricted as would be expected but there is no problem crossing over onto the normal menu to mix and match. the food was good value, well presented and very tasty, the pub is cosy and charming with a welcoming atmosphere and i have... We visit here quite often for lunch and have always enjoyed good imaginative food at a reasonable price. The food appears to be made and cooked fresh and a good choice of wines and beers are available to accompany such visits. It is nice to know you can always rely on a place, in particular if you invite someone else... More

We were staying at Heythrop Park and this restaurant was so, so convenient! There were 3 or 4 places we were considering, and I am really pleased I chose the Crown. The food and the wine were both excellent although my partner struggled to finish the great steak and ale pudding :o) I had the Pollock with garlic Mash and... More
