Very good food

The starter of olives and hot chappata to share was very good. The main courses of salmon fish cakes and the steak meal offer were well presented and good to eat. We did not have room for anything else. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Ate dinner in front of a roaring log fire on a wet evening in March - friendly atmosphere, good service and fabulous food! Although not cheap (nowhere in the area could be said to be cheap!) the home-cooked food is very plentiful and absolutely delicious. The best steak and ale pie ever and a duo of desserts (lemon possett and... More

We enjoyed two nice evening meals in the upstairs dining area. The food was very good and came out well presented and hot. We would eat here again. :) It was quite Noisey from the downstairs bar on the weekend, so if you want a romantic atmosphere a weekday may be better. Also you can book tables online via their... Had an evening meal here Thursday 12th March. Delicious sharing fish platter for starters and then both had a beef and ale pie with mash/chips and peas. It was so filling that we couldn't even manage a desert! Lovely friendly staff and relaxing atmosphere.

Haven't been to Burford for over a year and decided to stop off for a meal on our way south. Decided to go in the Mermaid as it's one place we hadn't eaten before. As I was feeling hungry I had the BBQ pork and my wife had the fish and chips. Great choice, I don't eat a lot of... More

A nice enough place but a little confusing as to whether it's a bar or a cafe. Trys to be both but I overheard several customers nearby asking the same question. Slightly strange and cramped layout. Went in meaning to eat but didn't feel comfortable so had a drink and left to eat elsewhere.

Definitely a pub/restaurant, not sure why you think we are trying to be a cafe we certainly are not. we have just had a complete refurbishment of our pub by a top designer who has won pub designer of the year 3 years running so I think he knows his stuff.yours is the only negative comment we have had. I... More

Stopped for lunch in pretty Burford. Quite a few options but opted for this pub. Nice cosy bar area but busy so ate in the conservatory which is fine but light and not quite as atmospheric. Friendly service although a little slow. Main gripe is paying over £18 for a couple of baguettes and a bottle of sparkling water. Felt... More

I was surprised by your review. you were given a menu which clearly has the prices on so had you thought us expensive you could easily have chosen to eat elsewhere.we try hard to keep our prices as competitive as we can and in line with the rest of Burford, I'm sure if you had look around you would have... We love this pub and visit regularly for a meal and to listen to the live music on a Friday evening which is varied and has a really good atmosphere. We have had Sunday lunch which was excellant and regularly try the specials and have always had a fab meal, staff are really friendly and this pub has a great... More

We went in The Mermaid for late lunch and drinks. We all had ham and cheese in French bread which were very good. We also had loads to drink with bottles of wine and beers. In the evening we went back to hear the music they had put on. Good evening had by all.

We enjoyed a tasty lunch in the conservatory, warming up next to the log burner. Good choices, attentive staff and comfortable surroundings.
