Huffkins is a bit unusual. We are an independent family business with our own craft bakery and a heritage that stretches back to 1890. Established in Burford, at the heart of the Cotswolds, by Mr Titcombe our breads and cakes were originally delivered by donkey and cart. Given the impracticalities of donkeys we have modernised some things over the years - but we still bake everything by hand. Our bakers work through the night to create everything from the bread for our sandwiches to the fresh cream cakes in our shops. We believe very firmly in sourcing ingredients locally wherever possible. Now whilst there is clearly not an abundance of tuna fish in the local rivers there are surprisingly few things that do not grow in the Cotswolds. And when we do grow something it tends to be good. Very good in fact. Our chefs take a keen interest in every ingredient that enters our kitchens from field to plate. So when, for instance, you ask for a sausage bap at Huffkins you can expect Cotswold pork sausages made by WJ Castles of Burford to our own traditional recipe in a handmade bap from our bakery made with FWP Matthew's flour from Shipton under Wychwood, served with Huffkins spicy tomato ketchup made at our own kitchen in Stow-on-the-Wold. We believe in real Cotswold food. Even our teas, which we buy directly from the finest small producers around the world are blended with local ingredients including Cotswold fruits and lavender from Snowshill near Broadway. The only thing we cannot get to grow locally is good staff - so regrettably you are stuck with whatever we could find. Many have been with us an awfully long time. Too long perhaps. Yet all jokes apart many of the team hold awards for 3, 5, 10 and even 15 years of service. Just look out for coloured lapel pins if you fancy spotting the old-timers.

Birthday celebration

I treated my friend to a day out in Burford for her birthday. We started at Huffkins for a cup of coffee to get us going and then walked all around the village. When lunch time rolled around I asked her where she would like to go for lunch and she chose to go back to Huffkins. Twice in one... read more

Huffkins is a fantastic place for brunch. However it can be busy and there can be a wait for food and drink. We both ordered soup to start and then one smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and one poached eggs with salmon. When it came it was soup and a sandwich (a poached egg sandwich.) When questioned we were told... More

We live locally so go here for a treat. It's very good. The food is freshly prepared and the drinks are great. I hate when you order a cup of the and it comes with a tea bag in a cup - well no fear of that here. I got a teapot of lemon and ginger tea and a lovely... More

Again another place in Burford where they serve Good food and drinks at Cotswold prices. We where able to buy our cakes here so that we could take them back to the cottage for afternoon tea. But quality has its price in Burford

Nice place to eat, if you want a traditional tea shop feel. The Lardy cake was lovely and nice pot of tea with extra water. Dat in the window and watched the world go by very relaxing

Stopped off here for a cuppa and was tempted by their famed lardy cake (as well as scones and jam!) Have to say it is well worth the hype - an absolutely delicious sweet indulgence midway between a pastry and a pudding. I didn't try it with ice cream and caramel sauce that they offer, but I imagine it would... More

We met friends here for lunch. It was fine, we had to wait for a table but got one after about 5 minutes. The seating is pretty cramped as it is a beautiful old building, & be aware the toilets are up steep narrow stairs. Service was ok, but maybe a bit scatty. The food was good, & I can... More

Very busy - and the attractive ambience of the bakery adds to the anticipation. However, whilst the leaf tea is very nice, the dishes were only average (my wife couldn't finish her soup - too jarring taste wise) and a light cafe lunch for three exceeded £10 per head. In the bakery you can order much the same and eat... More
