Huffkins is a bit unusual. We are an independent family business with our own craft bakery and a heritage that stretches back to 1890. Established in Burford, at the heart of the Cotswolds, by Mr Titcombe our breads and cakes were originally delivered by donkey and cart. Given the impracticalities of donkeys we have modernised some things over the years - but we still bake everything by hand. Our bakers work through the night to create everything from the bread for our sandwiches to the fresh cream cakes in our shops. We believe very firmly in sourcing ingredients locally wherever possible. Now whilst there is clearly not an abundance of tuna fish in the local rivers there are surprisingly few things that do not grow in the Cotswolds. And when we do grow something it tends to be good. Very good in fact. Our chefs take a keen interest in every ingredient that enters our kitchens from field to plate. So when, for instance, you ask for a sausage bap at Huffkins you can expect Cotswold pork sausages made by WJ Castles of Burford to our own traditional recipe in a handmade bap from our bakery made with FWP Matthew's flour from Shipton under Wychwood, served with Huffkins spicy tomato ketchup made at our own kitchen in Stow-on-the-Wold. We believe in real Cotswold food. Even our teas, which we buy directly from the finest small producers around the world are blended with local ingredients including Cotswold fruits and lavender from Snowshill near Broadway. The only thing we cannot get to grow locally is good staff - so regrettably you are stuck with whatever we could find. Many have been with us an awfully long time. Too long perhaps. Yet all jokes apart many of the team hold awards for 3, 5, 10 and even 15 years of service. Just look out for coloured lapel pins if you fancy spotting the old-timers.

Lovely breakfast

As a Cotswolds institution, a visit to Huffkins is a must. I had a full vegetarian English breakfast which was generously sized and very tasty. Even though the place was very, very busy, I didn't have to wait long for the table. The staff was friendly and efficient. The only thing I didn't like... read more

Living as we do in Mid Wales, we don't visit Burford very often and hitherto we have usually taken coffee etc. at Maison Blanc despite its falling standards, shabby decor and over-priced food and drink. But this time, I suggested we tried Huffkins and what a treat! Service was first class from the second we walked in to the minute... More

We visited here whilst passing through Burford and in need of tea and cake! Despite being lunch time they found us a small table and were happy that we were not ordering full meals. We had a very generous pot of tea for two, we had the house blend which was very nice. We shared a Chocolate eclair (complete with... More

Huffkins is located on the high street of the very pretty Cotswolds town of Burford & it had been recommended to us. We arrived at 2pm and it was extremely busy. Customers were queuing at the cash register to pay and blocking the entry of customers like ourselves getting in despite plenty of empty tables. Not the customers fault there... More

Dear AvidTraveller, Thank you for your review. I am sorry that you found things not up to your standards on Friday, unfortunately our entire till and operating systems went down for over an hour and we were forced to shut for a while to try and catch up with orders and clearing etc. A waitress should have informed you of... Huffkin's afternoon tea meals are a must try. They offer some of the nicest scones I've had in a while. The assortment of cakes and the tea really tops it off. I would say that the cafe is surprisingly warm given the fact that it was quite chilly outside. It made sitting there a little uncomfortable. Also prices are a... More

Thank you for your review. I am glad that you enjoyed your food and drink here. While the prices may seem a little on the high side, it is reflected in the fact that all of our produce is made from scratch, sourced from local suppliers and our teas and coffees are hand blended to our specification. Very happy that... More

After a lovely walk around and beyond burford arrived for lunch, nice tea in loose leaf pot and soup and quiche. Well prepared food and tasty, accommodating staff and the place has a lovely atmosphere. Used receipt to get 10% off in shop next door which was good. The establishment blends in with the lovely town.

The pastries here were delicious but we were disappointed with the service. No service with a smile, no please or thank you. Both older ladies that served us seemed really fed up. If I was in the area again I wouldn't be back.
