A family owned brasserie in a French provincial town...Nottingham! Since 1994, this delicious Gallic haven, presided by charismatic Corsican Stephane Luiggi, has created a tiny piece of France in the centre of Nottingham. Today it's a thriving, bustling restaurant on two floors, with a ground floor dining area for up to 40 customers boasting a unique Deli Corner, offering farmhouse unpasteurised cheese, wines from small growers, French grocery essentials, as well as some rare brocante finds. A large red-bricked basement room, for up to 44 diners, is reminiscent of Toulousain restaurants, La Ville Rose, where Stephane met his Nottingham-born wife Louise. The dishes and menus are typical of a French bistro; simple, classic recipes, all home-made from fresh ingredients. Stephane and Louise aim to serve meals that make the French feel at home, and the British remember their holidays. Authenticity, combined with a desire to share French culture, to pass on knowledge, from translations to the hidden gems of Corsica, makes French Living a truely unique, warm and memorable experience.

Lunch favourite

We go here for lunch and always have the set menu, starter and main. It's cheaper than in the evening! Service can be slow at lunch times. The main course will be fish or meat in a sauce, a carb, chips or rice or barley, veg and a dressed salad. It is never too large, nicely balanced, good for... read more

Love this place, hence I keep going back. This visit was not at the top of the list of experiences, although the food as always was lovely. Super Moules and a lovely Duck. Confusion with the wine was frustrating - a mis-understanding methinks leaving my dinner to go cold whilst the wine was changed, and a full bottle brought instead... More

Your review sounds like the sort of comments my French family make when they visit England for the first time and try baked beans (haricot beans in a sweet tomato sauce - disgusting!). The French often eat red cabbage, slightly spiced with raisins. We always ask how you want your steak cooked. Did you ask for it well done? If... More

Accommodated us after a late running theatre performance and stayed open for us to enjoy a very good dinner which finished the evening perfectly. Good cooking and a warm welcome. We will visit again.

My wife and I regularly eat here. The food is some of the best authentic french cooking you will come across outside of France! The menu is not the largest, but it changes regularly. Book a table downstairs which is much more intimate and cosy than the upstairs (ground floor) part of the restaurant

visited this restaurant today after hearing only good things about it. However, although the main course was very good, the dessert of coffee gateaux was pretty bad! It was stale, not sure how old it was, and absolutely no coffee taste. I did mention it to the waiter who collected the plates, he didn't even acknowledge me!! probably won't return... More

I am so pleased you enjoyed your main course. I am somewhat bemused by the gateaux and waiter experience. We cook fresh, we are there to please. In terms of waiter, you are talking about either Audrius or my husband Stephane. No one at French Living intentionally ignores! However, they may have misheard, as the word "stale" is not one... Attentive waiting staff and prompt serving. This is my go to place in Nottingham for onion soup and moules mariniere. Recommend going during the week.

Wonderful French restaurant, a small selection of vegetarian options. Choice of set meal, 2 or 3 course meals or just have what you fancy from the menu, lots to choose. The food is well cooked, great service and you can practice your French language skills. Good place for pre-theatre but make sure you book and let them know you're going to... More
