A family owned brasserie in a French provincial town...Nottingham! Since 1994, this delicious Gallic haven, presided by charismatic Corsican Stephane Luiggi, has created a tiny piece of France in the centre of Nottingham. Today it's a thriving, bustling restaurant on two floors, with a ground floor dining area for up to 40 customers boasting a unique Deli Corner, offering farmhouse unpasteurised cheese, wines from small growers, French grocery essentials, as well as some rare brocante finds. A large red-bricked basement room, for up to 44 diners, is reminiscent of Toulousain restaurants, La Ville Rose, where Stephane met his Nottingham-born wife Louise. The dishes and menus are typical of a French bistro; simple, classic recipes, all home-made from fresh ingredients. Stephane and Louise aim to serve meals that make the French feel at home, and the British remember their holidays. Authenticity, combined with a desire to share French culture, to pass on knowledge, from translations to the hidden gems of Corsica, makes French Living a truely unique, warm and memorable experience.

We are so pleased that you have discovered French Living and enjoyed the experience. Please note for the next time you visit that we do offer wine by the carafe. At the bottom of the wine list there is a box with our Vins Maison - a Vin de Pays d'Oc - available in red, white and rosé, by the... More

We went here for my Fathers 70th birthday meal. As we were a big party we pre ordered our food. We were late arriving as it was a very busy Saturday evening and we couldn't easily park. The staff were indifferent and service was slow. When our food finally did arrive it was over cooked (salmon) and there wasn't enough... More

I am pretty horrified to hear that your 12 old son was expecting a main course of chips! We would have served your sauteed potatoes as a side dish. We do not offer potatoes of any sort as a main dish, particularly as our menu has a balanced choice from chicken, steak, pork or fish, including fresh vegetables. Our hand-cut,... More

When we lived in Nottingham, French Living was always our restaurant of choice. Now we live a couple of hundred miles away we still make the occasional pilgrimage. Food always excellent, varied, cooked to order, and inexpensive. Good quality house wines, aperitifs and digestifs, a real treat. Cannot praise it highly enough. Love it.

I spend a fair bit of time in Nottingham but hadn't visited French Living before, which is a massive oversight. Being on my own I asked for a discreet table towards the back. I ordered from the good value £22.95 3 course menu (I was on company expenses): the cheese, pear and walnut salad was both generous and tasty; the... More

Two of our party had the same dish, duck pate encrout and it was awful, it he duck pate was tough and dry. We then had the halibut the only thing nice about it was the sauce, the fish was over cooked. Not an enjoyable experience and will not be returning

I am so pleased you liked the sauce that accompanied your fish. You could have enjoyed the fish too if you had alerted a member of staff. We are more than happy to correct cooking errors, and this would have been turned around ultra-promptly to prevent you from waiting. Our aim is not to serve dishes that make customers unhappy... First time at this restaurant for us. My husband and I enjoyed a lovely meal at French Living pre theatre so we chose from the menu of the day. We had smoked salmon terrine and house terrine (not what it was called, apologies) which was a coarse pate. Both had salad garnish and were very tasty. The salmon terrine was... More

Fabulous, the food is gorgeous, if you go have the mushroom soup for starters, it doesn't sound very interesting but it is just delicious, it is a very good looking restaurant, has charming staff. I couldn't fault it, gladly would return any day

We're Nottingham residents and have enjoyed eating at French Living since it opened. We've enjoyed lunches and dinners with family and friends many times and have appreciated the authenticity of the food, the friendly service and the interesting and good value wine list. The set menu for lunch and pre-theatre is the best value in town (and we've tried lots... More

We went for valentines and spent 90 pounds on a 3 course meal. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the staff were friendly and all French so felt very authentic. The food could have been more for what we paid. This restaurant wouldnt stand out in France, in Nottingham I think its decent

Your criticism is very vague so I am not sure how to respond. In what way could our food be "more"? Do you mean quantity? I have to point out that our portions are always considered very generous. Do you mean "more" flavour? Our gratin dauphinois potatoes served on the Valentines menu received multiple compliments, deemed as extremely tasty, as... More
