A family owned brasserie in a French provincial town...Nottingham! Since 1994, this delicious Gallic haven, presided by charismatic Corsican Stephane Luiggi, has created a tiny piece of France in the centre of Nottingham. Today it's a thriving, bustling restaurant on two floors, with a ground floor dining area for up to 40 customers boasting a unique Deli Corner, offering farmhouse unpasteurised cheese, wines from small growers, French grocery essentials, as well as some rare brocante finds. A large red-bricked basement room, for up to 44 diners, is reminiscent of Toulousain restaurants, La Ville Rose, where Stephane met his Nottingham-born wife Louise. The dishes and menus are typical of a French bistro; simple, classic recipes, all home-made from fresh ingredients. Stephane and Louise aim to serve meals that make the French feel at home, and the British remember their holidays. Authenticity, combined with a desire to share French culture, to pass on knowledge, from translations to the hidden gems of Corsica, makes French Living a truely unique, warm and memorable experience.

Wonderful French restaurant, a small selection of vegetarian options. Choice of set meal, 2 or 3 course meals or just have what you fancy from the menu, lots to choose. The food is well cooked, great service and you can practice your French language skills. Good place for pre-theatre but make sure you book and let them know you're going to... More

Just returned from Paris and wanted to keep the French feeling going, so me and my husband decided to treat ourselves over the bank holiday to a wonderful lunch. The staff were very friendly and the decor was very relaxed. The menu was classic French food very rustic and hearty. we were pleasantly surprised that they had a small selection... More

A lovely rustic French restaurant. The staff were French. You could eat a la carte or there was a choice of two menus where you could pick a starter, mains and dessert for £22.95 or £27.95. It was very good value and good quality food. The wine was reasonably priced too. The downstairs seating was quite noisy and good for... More

Lovely atmosphere, excellent service, good wine and delicious food. I was very impressed with the gluten free options, and was informed that any meal could be adapted to be gluten free. I was even served with a warm, brown gluten free roll. Would highly recommend.

After visiting for a second time and receiving another excellent meal, I thought I would post my recommendation. The food is superbly cooked and incredibly tasty. It is presented in a way which makes you feel like you are eating a meal straight out of a French family's kitchen. A good selection of wines and aperitifs complement the menu. If... More

Thank you for taking the time to write about a meal out at French Living, without feeling the need to dissect every dish, or observe every waiter's mannerisms in the hope of discovering a fault. It not only feels good to write simple, positive things, but it also feels wonderful to receive them. So thank you!! More

I was appalled at how rude staff were and how badly I was treated. I'm also wondering what I did to deserve such rude behavior as many other reviews seem to be fairly positive. Possibly because I am quite young, people think they can get away with it. I will definitely NOT be returning here.

This is the sort of vague, inappropriate comment that gives Tripadvisor a bad name. It is impossible for me to reply clearly given that you do not specify exactly what happened. What day, what circumstance, which member of staff? Respect, smiling faces, courteous manners are always the order of the day for every guest who walks through our door -... More

Visited with four friends for an evening meal. Charming French/Corsican Bistro in the centre of Nottingham. French speaking staff and several French students present. Very good menus with a varied selection including fixed price deals with a good choice. Flavoursome food, good portions. Typical continental endless supply of bread! Wine list from different parts of France is acceptable though no... More

We went here for my Fathers 70th birthday meal. As we were a big party we pre ordered our food. We were late arriving as it was a very busy Saturday evening and we couldn't easily park. The staff were indifferent and service was slow. When our food finally did arrive it was over cooked (salmon) and there wasn't enough... More

I am pretty horrified to hear that your 12 old son was expecting a main course of chips! We would have served your sauteed potatoes as a side dish. We do not offer potatoes of any sort as a main dish, particularly as our menu has a balanced choice from chicken, steak, pork or fish, including fresh vegetables. Our hand-cut,... More

When we lived in Nottingham, French Living was always our restaurant of choice. Now we live a couple of hundred miles away we still make the occasional pilgrimage. Food always excellent, varied, cooked to order, and inexpensive. Good quality house wines, aperitifs and digestifs, a real treat. Cannot praise it highly enough. Love it.
