Part of the grade II listed Elite Building, it has a restaurant on the ground floor at street level, as well as a second space in the basement. Accessed via a spiral staircase, the basement restaurant has a surprisingly high ceiling and red-bricked wall. Both floors have the same menu, and this environment will appeal to couples wanting a romantic dinner, professionals on a lunch break, or birthday parties of up to 45 diners.

Visited French living for a staff Christmas meal last night. Seated in the cellar which was fine and very atmospheric (although it helped that the room was packed out, mostly by our team) although my friend did accidentally lean against the wall next to our table at one point and ended up covered in the damp 'fluff' coming from the... Now this is a first! Your review has left me somewhat speechless....goat's cheese blended with honey and fruit is a classic Provencal combination, but as we describe all the ingredients of this dish on the menu it should have come as no surprise that it would be more sweet than savoury. Cod with sweet potato puree - a combination that... More

Booked table for 8 & pleased to be seated upstairs as the atmosphere is charming and very inviting. Downstairs feels very subterranean! Overall the experience was mixed owing to a long wait between starter and mains... Food came out erratically & unfortunately 5 dishes were luke warm - these had to be sent back to be reheated... Not great with... More

Christmas parties!! A chaotic time of year. Inevitable to receive a review like yours after the busiest period. So sorry it had to be your party that suffered a hiccup in the kitchen. We have received lovely thank-you's from very happy parties this year - posted on facebook and sent to us directly - rarely posted on tripadvisor! I wonder... More

Went for lunch yesterday with my wife. She had coley and I had venison burger both were plats du jour and were perfectly cooked with God veg too! We both followed with chocolate gateaux and lavender custard which was delish. Very good coffee and tea to finish. Service was good with genuine French staff. An enjoyable experience! We will return.

We went for lunch in december without making a booking, we were shown a table downstairs which was fine, the staff (especially tom) were very helpful and talked us through the menu and specials, we both had starters and mains and a carafe of wine, could not fault any of the food, it was all delicious and the mussels were... I visited this restaurant on Saturday, with two friends, and while the food was good, we had to wait a bit long for the meal to come, and our request for more water was never fulfilled. However, the most distressing aspect was the haze of smoke which descended on us during the evening. It marred the evening; our eyes were... More

Mishaps happen. The other day, at home in my kitchen, I over-heated some oil in a pan and my extractor could not cope with the smoke generated! I opened a window but it took some time before it dispelled. Luckily my friends and family still like to come round and eat with me. I am so sorry that the mishap... More

I walked the street of chain restaurants, most of which looked busy, loud, probably didn't serve what I wanted. Reached the top a of the street and it was then I found it! French Living. I was stood reading the menu as two ladies walked out, one remarked, "You know every time I go, I feel like I'm back in... More

Enjoyed a quiet Christmas meal with 3 friends on Friday in my favourite restaurant. The staff are attentive, Stephane charming & welcoming, the food delicious-my Duck Confit just fell off the bone. As for the creme brulee, wow, it must be the best in Nottingham. You really feel like you have been whisked away to France. Real French food, real... More

Unostentatious French restaurant. With quite small menu but with all the dishes you would expect in such an establishment. Food was very well cooked and well presented and of sufficent size. Wine was also very good , including the house red. If you are looking for a French restaurant this is worth a try.

Run by Stefan and his team, this restaurant, situated right in the centre of Nottingham, is a little oasis of culinary delights that one usually finds only in France. Nothing pretentious, it does exactly as it says on the tin. I have been visiting there almost since it opened, mainly for lunch, and it still delights. Many so called French... More
