Just back from Higoi where I had the most exciting and largest meal ever! I had: lightly seared fish on rice, asparagus tempura maki rolls, fried chicken maki rolls, crispy and delicious vegetable tempura, japanese vegetable croquettes, a platter of super fresh assorted sashimi, rice with shichimi pepper and edamame beans, miso soup....and finally daifuku, a moist and gooey rice... Had a lovely meal at Higoi last night. The agedashi tofu, miso soup, chicken teriyaki, sashimi, tempura prawns, & duck maki were all delicious. Quite expensive at £75 for two people with a beer each, but worth it for a special treat! We will be visiting again!

The food was excellent- not a fan of the word 'authentic' but you know what I'm getting at. The best Japanese food I've had in England, outside of London (I've lived in Japan). For us it's a treat because it's more expensive than what we usually go in for (dinner for 2 with drinks, around £100) but it's not unusual... More

A must visit Japenese restaurant. Exellent mixture of food and a great atmosphere. Booking advisable as small restaurant.

We have been regulars at this restaurant over many years. The food has always been good. The prices reasonable for Japanese cuisine and the wine list is oustanding for a small restaurant and in value. Service on past occasions has sometimes been a little slow. On this occasion, a Friday night, our experience was disastrous. We arrived on time and our table... More

The food is just fabulous, honestly. The problem is the price, I think it is probably worth it because the ingredients are quality (the teriyaki steak and the scallop kabayaki would be my choice for a last meal) but it seems off kilter with the restaurant setting. Maybe it is shallow of me but if I am paying 75 plus... More

This is a family run restaurant and has a genuine welcome for its guests. It doesnt do the brash teppanyaki displays but does do good quality sushi, soups and stews. The atmosphere is that of a family restaurant, with no brash music, no loud parties, just the hum of people talking and enjoying themselves. There is certainly no rush for you... More

I like Lenton, don't know why - maybe a hark back to my student days. This restaurant is probably a little out of the student price range, but it is a really nice little hidden oasis with really nice food - great one for a night out with your mates - not the loud ones.

Iv been to higoi for special occasions a few times now and we've had delicious sushi every time. It's not too very cheap but you get what you pay for. There are so many places that have very unimaginative sushi menus but the sushi menu at higoi has some interesting and delicious combinations. Great place!
