The beer was great (according to the beer-drinker) but we both agreed that the food was fab. Totally home-cooked with wonderful honest ingredients. Excellent value.

A really lovely pub with a nice fire and friendly staff. The food was simple but delicious and there was a good selection of local ales. We went on the quiz night which was good. The atmosphere is very calm and welcoming and it is traditional for the winners of the quiz to share the chocolates they win with everyone... More

The chatty couple that run this fantastic highly inviting little pub. A very warm and welcoming place with a couple of fire places. Not the biggest of country pubs that is for sure. They make their own ale, they had 5-6 on tap when I was there, I recommend Shire Bitter. They had a quiz on the Wednesday I was... More

This pub was recommended to us by a pub landlord from Durham. It is a little hard to find but is about 2 miles South West of Hexham and is located in a picturesque hamlet on a stream in good walking country. It is an old style pub with a friendly cosy atmosphere and a real fire. All the fittings... More

A lovely little pub tucked away, very welcoming and homely. Four of us ate there- steak and kidney pie, tagliatelle, vegetable and bean casserole, a cheese flan salad and an apple crumble with custard. It was quite an extensive menu for such a small pub, with a good selection of starters, mains and sweets with good vegetarian meals to choose... More

We discovered this gem of a pub last year situated and lonely in one of a myriad dips in the local roads just south of Hexham.. Table stools, window seats, tiny stools and a post Dickensian atmosphere surround the finest setting for the best classic British pub food of generous proportions. My party of 5 had Hake, Bacon Chop and... More

I ate here this evening with my two teenaged sons. We all finished everything on our plates and even had dessert! The food was properly home made and was served with lots of fresh vegetables and new potatoes - no chips for a welcome change. The rhubarb crumble was delicious. No cards - cash only - could have done with... More

we called on a Sunday Lunch time. we knew that we couldn't book so we arrived early. we were a party of six with two young children and grandparents. There is no traditional Sunday lunch menu but a long blackboard menu of reasonably priced dishes. we ordered steak and kidney pie, a slow cooked beef dish, the gammon and mince and... prior to out trip to Northumberland, my wife and I read a very enthusiastic report in the Daily Telegraph weekend supplement and this prompted us to seek out this brilliant, but out of the way pub. It was great. Unfortunately, only allowed myself to sample one of the many beers on offer but that and the crab sandwich eaten in... More
