Description: This charming eatery is one of York's best kept secrets. Located just behind the old city walls, Caf No 8 has an intimate bistro-style ambience and a delightful hidden, paved garden out the back. The super-cheerful staff and delicious menu have won this restaurant awards and local loyalty, and the caf is always buzzing with a laid-back crowd. In the evenings the menu features favourites such as salad with fresh figs, blue cheese and pine nuts served with a blackcurrant and rosemary dressing, and home oak-smoked salmon fillet served with a bubble and squeak cake with a poached egg on top. We also love the vanilla panna cotta with spiced orange and mango salad, and stem ginger ice cream.

Just outside the walled City, this Restaurant is worth a visit. You will need to book as it is very popular, and not many seats available. We have eaten there twice now and enjoyed both meals

We have eaten here countless times and visited on 11th December to celebrate our 5th Anniversary. There was too much choice on the menu, it was a hard decision but I settled on the most incredible soup I've ever eaten in a restaurant and we have since made it at home, Swede and Celeriac. Mains was steak with blue cheese... More

We had the dine at home experience form Café No 8 whilst staying on a weekend away in York. The food was AMAZING and delivered to our door on time, we had a bit of heating and putting together to do but the instructions were easy to follow and results restaurant quality. I would highly highly recommend this service to... More

Before our recent visit to York we consulted Trip Advisor about the best places to eat. Cafe No.8 was one of those that we selected and we booked a table a couple of days before we travelled. We sought out the restaurant in the afternoon so that we knew where we would be going later in the day which would... More

We dined here on Black Friday, and what an oasis of delight it was: like stepping into another world. The service was warm, friendly, welcoming and we were made to feel rather special. The food was delicious and the choices were excellent. The quality was high but the price was reasonable. I will be sure to book here next time... More

I live in York an have eaten at Cafe No.8 on at least a half a dozen occasions. The only negative to this restaurant - one which has been my continued experience over the years - is the half hearted unattentive service. Put simply, this place never has enough staff to look after you. On the positive side, and it... More

We came for dinner as my friend had booked a table. Two courses for £19. Sevice was very good and attentive, staff were friendly. The food was well presented but it just seemed like some magic was missing from what I had. For my starter the texture throughout the smoked salmon & beetroot trifle isn't quite right, it would work... More

I booked here due to the trip advisor reviews and it was really good. The menu is unexpectedly interesting. The choices are enough to get excited over but not too many so you know that they are trying to do too much and failing. It was great to be able to see the kitchen which was spotless and organised. What... More

We had heard good reviews for Cafe No 8 but didn't expect such excellent food and wide range of choices from the menus. The food was fresh, seasonal, with unusual touches and flavourings which all worked very well. The cafe is small so I would expect it's wise to book ahead.
