This charming eatery is one of York's best kept secrets. Located just behind the old city walls, Caf No 8 has an intimate bistro-style ambience and a delightful hidden, paved garden out the back. The super-cheerful staff and delicious menu have won this restaurant awards and local loyalty, and the caf is always buzzing with a laid-back crowd. In the evenings the menu features favourites such as salad with fresh figs, blue cheese and pine nuts served with a blackcurrant and rosemary dressing, and home oak-smoked salmon fillet served with a bubble and squeak cake with a poached egg on top. We also love the vanilla panna cotta with spiced orange and mango salad, and stem ginger ice cream.

Found this place on trip adviser and it was worth the visit. The food and service are first class. From the outside it looks nothing but a cafe but once you taste the freshly cooked food you'll be thankful you booked.

Cafe No 8 is in reality an exceptional restaurant. The food makes your taste buds dance and it is not too hard on the wallet - average main meal £12 - £13 the stake at around £15 was very good value as it practically melted in the mouth. The hot smoked salmon trifle (cold dish of course) demonstrates the chefs... More

I love Cafe No 8 and decided that it would be the perfect place to end the way on my wife's birthday... how wrong could I have been! We arrived at 7.00 to find the place very busy and were shown through to our usual table. The waiter, Chris, knows us and had the wine sorted which was great. We... More

Went for a meal here with my partner on the first night of our holiday in York. Fantastic food, friendly and fast service. Lovely atmosphere for a romantic meal but I think you could take the family here too. The food was just amazing. Steak with umami mushroom crust and banoffee pie were the highlights but everything was really really... More

This is a fab venue. My other half booked this as a birthday surprise for me and I wasn't disappointed. We had the pressed lamb shoulder to start, followed by the pork loin and the belly pork. All the food was delicious and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was cooked and brought out in good time... More

This is currently my favourite York restaurant. I've only been twice to date but intend to go much more often - especially as we are moving to that end of town. The food is fabulous and the service is impeccable and friendly.

Just wanted to write a few words about my visit to their new venture cafe and there doesn't appear to be a separate page. I'm a regular and lover of cafe no 8 and the cafe at the gallery is cut from the same cloth with enough differences to make it unique. The staff were very friendly and efficient and... More
