Description: This charming eatery is one of York's best kept secrets. Located just behind the old city walls, Caf No 8 has an intimate bistro-style ambience and a delightful hidden, paved garden out the back. The super-cheerful staff and delicious menu have won this restaurant awards and local loyalty, and the caf is always buzzing with a laid-back crowd. In the evenings the menu features favourites such as salad with fresh figs, blue cheese and pine nuts served with a blackcurrant and rosemary dressing, and home oak-smoked salmon fillet served with a bubble and squeak cake with a poached egg on top. We also love the vanilla panna cotta with spiced orange and mango salad, and stem ginger ice cream.

This was our 3rd visit and although the food was of a very good standard I came out of the Restaurant still hungry for the 3rd time. Shame really all it would take is a bit more veg & potatoes to make it a real gem but I can't justify the cost for the amount you get and we all... More

A lunchtime visit with my two daughters. The food was sublime, a good example of food prepared by a chef that understands flavour combinations and has an eye for presentation. My thanks for making our visit such a pleasant experience.

Booked for a celebration meal. First time we visited the restaurant, and would definitely recommend. We will return soon. The waiter and waitress were friendly, but we were never rushed. Plenty of choice on the menu but without giving far too much to choose from. Food was creative, high quality and cooked to perfection. Delicious. Well done Café No. 8

We visited this place for lunch last week. It is only small and rather 'energetic', but the food is high quality, creative and good value. if you have the chance you should go, However I think booking would be best. Check the typical menus out online before your visit, it may not be to everyone's liking but I loved it!

Pre theatre dinner with friends on Saturday night, as ever never disappointed with Cafe No8, beautiful food. I had vegetable pressed lasagne with a mushroom fritter followed by dark chocolate ginger terrine with poached pears and cardamon ice cream all delicious. Delicious is the word, our food was well presented, tasty and interesting with different textures and flavours to try... More

Went there for breakfast. Ordered a full English and bubble and squeak. We asked if the bubble and squeak was gluten free and were told that it was. When it arrived we noticed it had a breaded egg on top. We told Chris the waiter and he picked the egg off the plate with his hand right there in front... More

Whether stopping by for a quick lunch or an evening meal, cafe No. 8 never fails to disappoint. We've eaten there on a number of occasions for both daytime and nighttime meals and have been impressed by the consistency in quality of service and food. Highly recommended.

This is one of York's best kept secrets. We have never had a bad meal in all the times we have been. The portions are just the right size. The service is also excellent.

Because of heavy traffic in the city centre we had to call saying we would be 15 minutes late for our reservation. This put pressure on as we were due at the theatre at 7.30pm. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. We opted for the 2 course special at £25 each. Starters were ample and very good. For the... More

Saturday nite last min, couldn't get a table where we wanted so I hit trip advisor for somewhere nearby and highly rated. Luckily grabbed the last table. The lady on the phone warned we were near the door, but a lol draft doesn't bother me. The place appears very small although it seems there are tables though the back too.... More
