Description: This charming eatery is one of York's best kept secrets. Located just behind the old city walls, Caf No 8 has an intimate bistro-style ambience and a delightful hidden, paved garden out the back. The super-cheerful staff and delicious menu have won this restaurant awards and local loyalty, and the caf is always buzzing with a laid-back crowd. In the evenings the menu features favourites such as salad with fresh figs, blue cheese and pine nuts served with a blackcurrant and rosemary dressing, and home oak-smoked salmon fillet served with a bubble and squeak cake with a poached egg on top. We also love the vanilla panna cotta with spiced orange and mango salad, and stem ginger ice cream.

We visited this fabulous little place after looking at yorks top restraunts and reading reviews on trip adviser and boy it didn't disappoint. The menu was just right in amount of choice. The food was excellent and the service was efficient and friendly. Well worth a visit. We shall certainly be going again.

Visited here for brunch with a group of friends on a day trip to York. I had prebooked as we were a group and our table was all ready for us. Lovely friendly and helpful staff. We were brought water to drink and the menus. Good choice of things available. Six of us opted for the mini breakfast and they... More

Loved the food and intimacy of restaurant - it's not huge but there was a pleasant unobtrusive buzz. We went for supper on our wedding anniversary. The service was friendly and attentive and the bill was excellent value. We had 2 courses each and a fine bottle of South American wine. It was a last minute choice and what a... More

We were staying around the corner in Atelier 22 St Mary's and came across this little gem of a restaurant. It’s small and perfectly formed, with really friendly and helpful staff and a great atmosphere. The kitchen punches well above its weight with some really excellent and innovative dishes. My wife and I were so enthused that we decided to... More

I visited on a Friday night with my boyfriend, we sat at the window seat (which is my favourite seat, and I'm on crutches so it was a bonus to sit there so I'm out of the way) We also only booked earlier that day so it was very kind of them to squeeze us in....they are extremely accommodating. The... More

Exceptional quality food and terrific value. Pros: Small menu but great choices. (We both had stuffed artichoke heart, then loin of rabbit, and rump and shoulder of lamb). Great value. All cooked to order. Good staff. Brilliant. Wine by the glass same price as the bottle pro rata. Cons: None! Highly recommended

Cafe No 8 is just simply fantastic. It manages to deliver superb service, superlatively flavoured food in a testing environment. The kitchen and food prep area is on full view in a Rachel Koo sized space, located in a corridor between the front and rear of the restaurant. If you drop in for lunch you must try anything they prepare... More

Had a delicious lunch here when we first arrived in York because it was near our Guest House (Mont Clare). My partner and I had a gorgeous sandwich with a beetroot soup. It was unusual and so nice! Definitely go here if you get the chance.
