L'Antica Locanda is a unique, culinary Italian experience not to be missed. Situated as it is on The Shambles in the heart of the City of York, this restaurant has been established for over ten years. Its menu offers an unusual variety of Italian dishes, some of them specialities of Puglia and Sardinia. The atmosphere is about as Italian as you can get and the cosy upstairs restaurant area provides a welcome relief from the hustle and bustle of the busy Shambles, with Italian music and a superb decor transporting the diner straight into 'a piece of Southern Italy'.

Wonderful

Ate here on Saturday 21 Feb after a grand day out at the Railway museum along with 150 to 160 other "Steampunk" friends. My wife and I took a walk back into town and down the shambles. Having been here many times before it was a surprise to spot this little Italian gem of a place. A little on the... read more

Led here via TA reviews. Disappointing. Avoid the shared antipasti unless you are happy to pay 16 quid for chilled (what tasted like) bog standard supermarket salami slices on a bed of chopped iceberg. The pasta dishes were hit and miss. Tasteless carbonara. Nice ragu. Perhaps they were just having a bad night but I won't be recommending.

Chose this place as looked totally authentic and not a 'chain' Italian. Tiny restaurant upstairs, but added to the charm. The hospitality was good and the food delicious - every dish we had was tasty. Complimentary drink at the end of the night was nice touch. One word of advice though, check your bill as few differences in prices charged... More

We were recommended this restaurant by the owner of the b&b we stayed in and we weren't disappointed. Although we had to wait a long time for the table we'd booked, the hospitality and the food more than made up for this. Would definitely recommend to anybody but make sure you book.

Had this place recommended for a girls weekend away and we weren't disappoiinted. Fab central location on the most famous of streets. Small place but still felt like we had enough room. Best part was the excellent serice. Waiters very attentive without being overbearing, and so helpful. Menu extensive and wine list great. My only criticism is the dessert menu... More

Simply one of the best Italian restaurants I have ever eaten at! The food is delicious and the staff is very attentive, polite and always smiling. They make you feel like you are in their home. This is going to be my new place to eat every week!
