Fantastic atmosphere

Came here with my girlfriend last night. As we made our way into town we walked passed this pub and heard a man singing , popped our heads into the door and seen 2 very good live singers, so we decided to pop in for a drink. We went for an evening meal wanting good ordinary food and we're not disappointed. Along with good food we got great beer and live entertainment as well as excellent service.

This pub/restaurant looked very appealing from the outside. Good choice of food and we had the 'meal of the day'. There was a choice and we both had the cheese filled mushroom starter followed by a beef tagine with homemade couscous. Both were well presented and the tagine was as good as the ones we had eaten in Morocco. Service... More

We had the sunday menu with roast beef, Yorkshire pudding and gravy. It was a big and hearty meal, and a fair pricing. Very nice interior and friendly staff.

Was looking around for lunch and I ran into this place...they had a sign advertising their full English breakfast for a little over £5 with tea and coffee included. Went in there and my waiter was very accommodating. When I told him I was gluten intolerant, he informed me that I could not eat the black pudding or the sausage,... More

I have to say I was very surprised at the high standard of the food in this pub. When you walk in it looks like a tradition old pub that's been around for years. But the food is very much that of a "gastro" pub at very reasonable prices considering its prime location. I had the pork belly BDW

Went in here a couple of times over a weekend in york. Sat in the back room twice and it really was one of the cleanest pubs I've ever been in( and ive been in a few!), landlord was a nice chap, gave me a free beer after the ale i was drinking was a bit tangy, fair play.

We decided to have a Sunday lunch and had called in the pub earlier for a drink. We returned later in the day and we were not disappointed. We chose the special menu of two courses for £14.50, we had goats cheese on ciabatta and spicy chicken wings for starters. Then we had roast beef and all the trimmings, everything... More

We ate here twice over the weekend, having eaten here previously in February. Staff are friendly and attentive, food was really good and of a reasonable price compared to some of its competitors nearby (where we did eat and were disappointed). The Sunday lunch was really good value and tasty, only criticism I would make is that the beef was... More

I have been to York 4 times and have made it a point to ake this my place. THey are very friendly, the food is great and the Pub quiz is a lot of fun. Can an American win??? NO!!! But you sure can have fun trying. I did win a box of chocolates and had a great time.
