The Royal Oak is a seventeenth century inn situated two minutes walk from York minster. The original building dates back to Tudor times and boasts a fine, Tudor beamed, free function room on the first floor. The building has recently undergone a massive refurbishment, sympathetic to its history. The menu is locally sourced, traditional British cuisine freshly cooked to a very high standard. As a Cask Marque accredited inn, the Oak has six perfectly kept cask ales, Timmy Taylor's Landlord, Old Perculier, Abbot Ale, Leeds Pale, Copper Dragon Best and Yorkshire Terrier.

Had a really lovely meal in a cosy nook at the back of the lounge. Great food. Lovely atmosphere. Friendly service. Mulled wine in February combined with fairy lights sent me into a happy happy place. Beef skewers particularly good.

We had a get together for family and friends for my daughter's 21st birthday. We were well looked after by Gareth and Carl and made to feel very welcome. Plenty of choices on the menu, everyone was happy with their choices. Would recommend the Royal Oak for group bookings, we had the use of the upstairs room which was just... More

We did not eat here but had a couple of drinks whilst staying in York. Blazing fire, warm and welcoming on a bitterly cold day. Staff happy and pleasant and a lovely pub with a lovely atmosphere.

My friend suggested popping out for a meal, after his meetings, at a local pub, with good pub grub and good beers. We arrived at the Royal oak and noticed substantial menu items on the board together with daily offers. We started by ordering an excellent Porter dark ale (my opinion) while we viewed the menus. As it was early... More
