Great value - friendly and welcoming staff

Had a great meal this evening. Food was bloody good and value for money. £10 for a calzone, bargain and tasty. Only downside is a standard beer menu of Moretti. There are so many great Italian brewerys out there!

Had heard a lot about this restaurant & decided to give it a try for our anniversary. Forgettable kind of sums it up in a word. The main courses - Lamb & Pork were both dry & overcooked - despite asking for the lamb to be pink. The flavours were very similar & uninspiring. Comments were passed to the waitress... More

Had lunch at the Vecchia Scuola and it was a great experience. had wine and food seating at one of the tables with the view to the garden. When you are on the little, busy streets of York you don't notice this restaurant, but once you get inside.. well that is another story. Delicious and gorgeous look food (see pic)... More

Fabulous Italian restaurant which not only serves fantastic food in beautiful surroundings but has a fantastic cocktail menu! If in York do yourselves a favor and come here! Even the bread is to die for! Fantastico!

York is quite busy with people and this restaurant is in a grand old building (school) right in the heart of the hustle and bustle. It gives you time to reflect and just take some time out. You have a partial view of Minster from the back seated area. Food was nice, service was okay e.g: things forgotten on more... More

We went to La Vecchia Scuola last night, as a family of 5. Cant wait for an excuse to go back. we all tried to have something different and everything we tried we enjoyed, from Ribeye steak to Tagliatelle. We had 3 courses from the regular menu with drinks - (2 Adults and 3 Teens) and it cost £150, which... More

Staying in York for the New Year presented us with a problem trying to find a decent restaurant open on New Years day evening. Finally found La Vecchia on-line and booked a table for four at 7pm. We didn't receive any confirmation, but after phoning and their apology we were in. How pleased we were that we chose La Vecchia.... More

Spent a few days in York between Christmas and the New year and called into this restaurant for our evening meal. We were lead straight to a table in the conservatory looking onto the garden and York Minster. We both ordered from the "early bird" menu. I suspected that either the choice would be limited or they would be smaller... More

We visited on saturday evening. We have visited this restaurant many times in the past as we love the food and atmosphere. The restaurant was busy, but we had booked a table. The staff as always were friendly and made us feel welcome. We will certainly return again soon.

Called in here due to my daughters recommendation. The food was well presented and well cooked. I found the beer very pricey. Nearly £5 for a pint of Morrieti. The staff were attentive and swift, and the place is steeped in history. It is clean and an enjoyable place to sit in and enjoy a meal. I would definitely go... More
