hampton couple mid week york trip

A welcoming and cosy restaurant worthy of the star rating that other reviewers have given it. The food and superb service from Annie were both outstanding. We shared the pulled pork scotch egg as a starter. Packed with tender pork and a quail egg in the middle, it was unusual but worked well. We... read more

Went on sat 6.15 reserved a table. Warm welcome, speedily to table ate breads with balsamic yum, crayfish risotto delish, main, steak, mushroom salad, chips all cooked to perfection. Also pork, black pudding chorizo risotto, flavour in abundance. Too full for pudding, chips fab as not too greasy. Great attentive service but not over the top. Bill 52 inc a... More

We booked for an evening meal and was told the table could be available for 8.15... When we arrived at 8.00pm we were told we could go to the table...even though we were early, the restaurant wasn't busy. I don't eat red meat so on investigating the menu there was two options for me to eat. I had eaten one... More

Went here for a Saturday lunch. The restaurant was very busy and is quite small, but the atmosphere was pleasant. Lunch menu whist not extensive was good quality and there were quite a number of specials too. Staff were attentive and polite. An enjoyable lunching & I would like to try dinner sometime. Only disappointing thing was the the kitchen... More

visited York on Business and dined here on a Wednesday evening, Food was excellent the Steaks were superb as were the Starters and Sweets. Service was good and staff knew everything that was asked regarding the dishes on the menu without having to go and find out. Service was prompt and with a smile. We paid and only realised after... We have lived in York for years and there are some places we never knew existed. My husband called me on Monday and said can I find an English restaurant in York as we had 3 business colleagues that were calling into York after travelling from the south and wanted to go for a meal. We usually go Italian or... More

A great returning visit, great food, great wine and great staff. The value of the food for the quality can't be beaten. It's nice to ask a membe of staff about a dish and they describe it perfectly. The only down side was very loud woman on the table next to us, if she reads this we are not surprised... More

First, the bad points: 1) The name’s a terrible pun. 2) We had an empty salt cellar. 3) There was a woman with an annoying laugh in the corner. That’s it. Everything else was brilliant. High Ousegate is a busy shopping street in York. The entrance to ‘Ate O’Clock’ is the size of a single doorway between the shop fronts... More

A lovely quirky restaurant down a quiet alleyway off Great Ouse Street. Booked this restaurant for a birthday meal with my partner after reviewing other diners remarks on trip advisor. We ordered out starters and mains and while we were waiting we were served with a complimentary dish of mascarpone profiteroles drizzled with balsamic syrup, what a taste sensation. We... More
