A glorified sandwich shop. We only have 8 seats but have a very quick turnaround. All our options are available to takeaway. Our specialty is our succulent Pulled Pork sandwich. It's cooked overnight, rested for 1 hour and served quick-sharp to avoid drying out. It's served in a soft, warm, sour dough bun with zingy slaw. Come between 11am and 3pm to avoid missing out on it. All our food is made on site, from scratch - including one vegan soup each day as well toasted wraps and veggie juices. Oh, and we set up smoothie bars in schools with our profits. It's fast food. But not as you know it.

Perfect for a lunchtime pick-me-up

My oh my their slowcooked beef brisket chilli is GOOOOOD. We're talking melt in the mouth tasty and topped with lots of rice, slaw and sour cream. A bargain for £4.20, especially as you can eat in. Just visited Shambles Kitchen with my wife and child. The service was exemplary and the pulled pork roll good. However, I had taken my family expecting a Cafe' experience. The offer was pulled pork or soup, neither appealed to my son. So walked away with two rolls in a bag in search of something for my six year old. Clearly... More

We are very small, it's no secret. And we insist on cooking everything from scratch, on site. So that limits our menu. There is however more than pork and soup on offer. There are 4 toasted wraps and a different street food box available each day. We don't make anything spicy so most of the food is suitable for little... More

No matter what you order from Shambles Kitchen, it's literally the most delicious and exciting thing your taste buds will have encountered, ever. On top of that, The customer service and charm of SK staff is just ridiculous. Never leave the shop without a smile on my face or a spring in my step.

I finished the free walking tour today and it was for me bitterly cold so I kept an eye out for the Shambles Kitchen because it had received such good reviews on Trip Advisor. The two staff on hand at around 4.15pm were more than helpful, very keen and chatty, interested and helpful. They shut the door because I was... More

Whatever you're doing in York, put it on hold, and head to Shambles Kitchen! I have been a regular here for almost two years, and I have never once been disappointed. Firstly the service provided by all staff members is always genuine and authentic, and no matter how busy the place gets, this doesn't change. As for the food: from... More

I was initially lured in by the fact that they did a different vegan soup every day of the week. Getting variety in quick takeaway food as a vegan can be difficult. I was not disappointed in the slightest. The soup is always great, thick and full of flavour, and made fresh each day. The staff are always smiling and... More

The staff were friendly and provided excellent service,. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich, the pork was dry and was bland. The slaw was quite boring and the hot sauce didn't help disguise the rest of the sandwich. I expected better after the reviews and what they charge for it. After eating many pulled pork sandwiches made by pit masters... More

Sorry that you were disappointed Garreth. Something must have gone wrong here. It should definitely not be bland. We do however treat our pork with much more respect than mixing it through with ridiculous sweet sauces. Whilst i have fond memories of living in South Carolina and travelling around the south, i don't think their way of serving Pulled Pork... More

We were served some of the best pulled pork we've ever tasted! It's a fab little place with really nice, helpful staff. Definitely worth going if you like smoothies & juices too!

Visited here for dinner after reading the reviews. Very friendly staff and a nice place. Food very disappointing. Pulled pork was very dry and bland. Bread was ok, but even with sauce and slaw, it was such a dry butty that it was hard to eat. Binned it half way through. Really regretting not going back to tell the owners.... More

Thanks Rachael. I'm gutted that you got a bad sandwich. You would've certainly got your money back if we knew. It's really easy to do bad pulled pork. You just over-cook the meat and smoother it in treacle based BBQ sauce - so no one can taste the meat and it stays wet. All you taste is BBQ sauce. You... More
