Walking through the back streets of York there are loads of small independent cafes, this place is very quirky hidden in the back of a delicatessen with just 4 tables, the ladies who prepare and serve the food have a great creative thinking to provide some interesting twists on exotic sandwiches and cakes, even better seeing wine ! All food... More

We were lucky to get a table in the cafe- there are only four! The potted shrimps were delightful with an imaginative, well dressed salad. My friend had the spring pie which she found delicious. Coffee is of good quality and in generous sized cups.

This is a lovely deli with a sweetie shop beside that sells coffees.( part of the same business) But behind is the most quaint garden where you can eat, or choose to go in the sweetie shop where there is a small cafe. This is a tiny eatery which we visited for lunch and the kitchen is of comparative size. The kitchen serves snacks and full size meals which are delicious and home cooked. The adjoining shop is also quaint and displays unusual food to tempt the taste buds.

The eatery here, behind the shop, is tiny. The kitchen would not look out of place in a bedsit, but the food is delicious. All home cooked, rustic, tasty and unpretentious. You will have to strike lucky to get one of the few tables but it's worth it.

This delightful deli also harbours a smal cafe (4 tables). We only had tea, and I am not sure how they manage to make food in the Tony kitchen, but what we saw, looked great. Well worth a visit.

This is a real bolt hole with some delightful delicacies on offer. Be warned though, there are only three tables and maybe 8 seats. Nevertheless if you arrive early enough you will be pleased with what is on offer. The hot chocolate I had was exceptionally good and there are picky little platters of chi chi bits and bobs available.... More

Hairy Fig is the best local deli you could ever want. Produce is beautiful, and the imported green fig jam to die for. You can't leave without locally baked bread, and some balsamic. The staff are amazing and Sue is a trooper (she deserves a good holiday for all her hard work). I would recommend Hairy Fig to all and... More
