The Whaler back to harbour with half the catch.

When visiting York myself and my family always have a meal at this restaurant. However this is the first time we have left a little disappointed. The fish was great but the chips were hard and dry and soon became cold on the plate. What have they done, has the dreaded frozen chip arrived or have... read more

When visiting York myself and my family always have a meal at this restaurant. However this is the first time we have left a little disappointed. The fish was great but the chips were hard and dry and soon became cold on the plate. What have they done, has the dreaded frozen chip arrived or have they changed their frying methods.

i think the fish and chips are lovely here. The staff in Wetherby can be a bit ignorant by talking to each other when i assume there waiting for other customers orders. They could see if anybody wants anything that is cooked instead of just letting the que grow longer. i have noticed this a couple of times. As i... More

With our daughter and grand-son we had another great meal here. The restaurant was packed and the atmosphere perfect. The portions of plaice & haddock were massif and we just managed to eat them. Everytime we visit York, the Wetherby Whaler restaurant is a most!

fairly basic surroundings but decent enough fish and chips and very reasonable price. Followed with a pudding with enough ice cream to feed four - okay if you want a lot of ice cream however I had asked for just a little bit of ice cream and so had to scrape off the excess and struggled to find the hot... I went there with my wife last Thursday and had the best fish and chips I have had for a long time, The service was excellent, the surroundings wear good, To eat in with tea bread and butter all for £8.50 each I could not fault it.

Called around 7 pm on a busy Friday after a trip to the cinema. We were cordially greeted and quickly seated. Service was friendly and helpful. Taking the Senior's Special we found excellent value for money and the quality of the food was excellent - nice moist fish, crispy batter and lovely chips. Although the building is fairly modern and... More

As I write this I am tucking into my 'Fish and Chips' however actually there is no Fish. After a long day at college and then work I wanted to treat myself on a miserable Monday with a nice chippy tea. I arrived at the takeaway at around 8pm and as the takeaway as stated on the door closing time... More

Dear L4ur40 I am sorry that you didn't receive the correct order last Monday when you visited us at The Wetherby Whaler York. Unfortunately you drove off so quickly from our car park on the Monday evening we were unable to rectify our mistake. It is a shame that you felt compelled to complain straight to Tripadvisor, as they are... More

When visiting my mum we always try to make it to the Whaler, the fish is fantastic and the portions are excellent. The staff are friendly and the service is quick. The restaurant is always clean and you may even have to queue at peak times to get a table. A must for fish and chip fans.
