Description: With two AA Rosettes to its name, The Piano Bar and Restaurant available for dinner every night and open Sunday lunch, set within the beautiful Churchill Hotel just moments from the city walls, is undoubtedly one of York's finest. Overlooking the manicured lawns of the hotel, The Piano Restaurant is elegantly modern, its interior design utterly contemporary but without ignoring the splendid proportions and original features of the room's high arched windows, a curving floor and delicate coving just some of the Victorian features. Begin your visit with a relaxed tipple in the bar, a warmly cosy space with a slightly masculine feel worthy of the hotel's namesake, before taking a seat in the brighter, more spacey dining room. Here you'll enjoy that AA acclaimed food with its fresh, locally and ethically sourced ingredients and constantly changing seasonal flavour. Imaginative and but with a nod to traditionalism, The Piano Restaurant's cuisine is created through the use of cutting edge techniques employed by the kitchen's talented and well trained chefs. Enjoyed to the delicate strains of the baby grand that gives the restaurant its name, the food is as sublime as the setting.

Long wait for service and a few minor issues with the dishes: vegetables undercooked, caviar served warm with scallops, cardamom sponge in the dessert tasted wrong, the texture was off and didn't go with the rest of the dish. Pleasant atmosphere and a nice venue, shame about the errors, could have been exceptional.

Food was truly delicious, very "fine dining" in style but good value for 3 courses. The quail with cherries was especially memorable. Our waiter was helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. We found this by using trip advisor reviews whilst staying down the road at the Minster Hotel and were very glad we did. Definitely one of the best meals we have... More

I came here with my girlfriend for a romantic meal and it did not disappoint. The food was excellent quality, being very well presented. The portions are a good size and the food is cooked to the highest standard. The desserts stood out as being particularly good; my girlfriend had lemon posset which was amazing. The only criticisms are that... More

Very relaxed atmosphere, staff very knowledgeable and attentive. Mushroom soup was the best I've ever tasted! Used tastecard so food extremely great value and excellent quality.

I ate for the third time here last night and had another very impressive meal, with excellent service and nice ambience. The food is modern cuisine, done very well indeed and there's a good choice on the a la carte menu for £29.95 for three courses. I preferred my starter and dessert to my cod main course, but then that's... More

We came to this restaurant for the second time in a month, this time with friends. The restaurant is part of the Churchill Hotel a rather chic hotel just outside the city walls in York. The setting is rather plush with a circular ceiling with hidden lighting - very atmospheric, and splendid views onto the gardens. There was a wonderful... More

My husband and I have been eyeing up the menu here for sometime, and we finally managed to get round to visiting last night. We had high expectations, and hoping it would be worth the 150 mile round trip, especially to visit. We definitely were not disappointed. The wine list is extensive, and is very reasonably priced, although our first... More

The Piano restaurant is part of the Churchill Hotel, where I was staying. It's excellent quality food and good attentive service - I had quail followed by sea trout and was not disappointed by either. Only downside was some undercooked broccoli as a side order and the plinky piano music playing in the background which can get a little wearisome.... More

With the menu outside looking intriguing we decided to try the 3 course A La Carte menu. After placing our orders we were presented with a complimentary dish containg a scallop and crispy chicken skin which was divine and set the tone for the rest of the evening so thank you chef! There also followed a platter of bread with... More
