Description: With two AA Rosettes to its name, The Piano Bar and Restaurant available...
With two AA Rosettes to its name, The Piano Bar and Restaurant available for dinner every night and open Sunday lunch, set within the beautiful Churchill Hotel just moments from the city walls, is undoubtedly one of York's finest. Overlooking the manicured lawns of the hotel, The Piano Restaurant is elegantly modern, its interior design utterly contemporary but without ignoring the splendid proportions and original features of the room's high arched windows, a curving floor and delicate coving just some of the Victorian features. Begin your visit with a relaxed tipple in the bar, a warmly cosy space with a slightly masculine feel worthy of the hotel's namesake, before taking a seat in the brighter, more spacey dining room. Here you'll enjoy that AA acclaimed food with its fresh, locally and ethically sourced ingredients and constantly changing seasonal flavour. Imaginative and but with a nod to traditionalism, The Piano Restaurant's cuisine is created through the use of cutting edge techniques employed by the kitchen's talented and well trained chefs. Enjoyed to the delicate strains of the baby grand that gives the restaurant its name, the food is as sublime as the setting.

Interesting Sunday lunch.

We enjoyed a family Sunday lunch at the Churchill. The decor of the bar and restaurant is quite arty and stylish, not the traditional interior we expected, but nice nonetheless. While perusing the menu in the bar, we asked the waitress to elaborate on some of the dishes on offer. She didn't know... read more

Meal was poor at best though price was extreme for the quality. We had lamb and had trouble finding the morsel on the plate. We ate lamb at several places in the UK on this trip. This was the worst.

We're really lucky that the Churchill is jut around the corner from our house and having been before for Sunday lunch we thought we'd try again for our Birthdays. We can't really review the price as we had a voucher for 2 for 1 all courses because of a function they had on during the summer. That was appreciated -... More

We selected this high class location for the last night of a short stay in York and were disappointed in a few key areas. Our fairly expensive white wine was served and remained too warm. We selected a dish from the starter menu for one of our main courses but the kitchen were unable to adjust the quantity accordingly so... More

After making an online booking through bookatable and receiving a confirmation email, I arrived at the restaurant for my 9:30 dinner reservation to find that the restaurant was closed for a wedding reception. The woman on the door appeared to find the situation quite amusing. She did not apologise and did not offer to help us find another place to... More

Food here is delicious, just what we like about fine dining. Our waiter Lewis delivered excellent service with just the right amount of attentiveness throughout our evening. If we visit York again we will be eating here for definite.

4 Of us enjoyed a nice dining experience at the piano restaurant starting with home made bread with 3 spreads including kipper flavoured butter which is great if you enjoy kippers. We had a mix of starters the favourite being lamb sweetbreads. Mains consisted of rump steak, cod and chorizo, the steak was cooked to perfection and succulent whilst the cod was... More

Visited on a Saturday evening for dinner with my wife and our young daughter. We were in York that weekend and I wanted to go somewhere nice for an evening meal, so picked this place based on the 2 AA Rosettes, the easy online booking and also because they had a children's menu, usually an indication that children are not... Well presented with good attention to details, a joy to eat without over eating. The music was a bit too loud, but we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. The chairs could do with higher backs for eating.
