Massive selection of top quality beers

Can't comment on the pub part as didn't go upstairs, but the beer shop is simply superb. Hundreds of British and foreign ales. For range and interest has to be one of the top beer shops in the country. Brilliant.

Very sad that this is closing down, even if only temporarily. The drinks are good, the food is great, and the ambience is really cosy & fun.

We were in York for a few days to visit the university, we had seen the house of trembling madness on our web searches and had to go just for the name! great place, not what I thought it would be - to me it is quirky and interesting, sitting on pew like benches with sheepskin throws and cushions -... This is a wonderful little pub above a beer shop and well worth a visit while in York. It's an atmospheric bar in the eaves of an old York building with strange taxidermy adorning the walls. It could be straight out of a Harry Potter book. There's a great beer selection and the beer is kept well. We didn't order... More

Do not go to this place! So many more options in such an incredible city like York. The food is really bad and overpriced along with rude staff.

Been a couple of times to this quirky place and found it absolutely amazing - if you like beer this place is a must! Best selection of drinks in the downstairs shop - can't wait for my next visit!

This is a wonderful little (and it is little so get in early) bar up a flight of steps from a beer shop. Serving a fine little collection of beers and good food from the area the size of a thimble, this place is amazing. Back downstairs to the toilets is a surreal experience, as you pass through the beer... More

I finally managed to walk through the shop and up the stairs to the very popular pub that many people talk about but despite hundreds of visits to York – I had never been in. The pub décor is cool but not original with walls have been stripped back to the brickwork and wooden beams and stuff animals keeping an... More
