How could we not eat at a place with such a magnificent name?! Good beer of course. We are burger fans, & these were some of the best burgers we've ever had anytime, anywhere! And a great value.

This was a little pub recommended by Rick Steves upstairs at the Bottle Shop. Excellent beer and wine and beef stew in a bread bowl in a traditional English pub atmosphere. It was the kind of bowl that you could share, but it was so good we both ate our own. Completely stuffed after. Back to our B&B and collapse.
Have been to York many times and have never noticed the House of the Trembling Madness which is a shame we have really missed out. Pub is small and located above an excellent shop we bought a dozen beers to take home. Decor is quirky as is seating staff are friendly and knowledgable we didn't eat concentrated on the beers...

I've been to the House of the Trembling Madness so many times I should probably be ashamed, but as a York resident spoilt for choice with good pubs, this remains my favourite, which says a lot. My friends and I have marked birthdays, graduations and any number of occasions (and non-occasions) here over the last few years, and its become...

York has a lot of pubs but this place stands out. The pub is above an excellent beer shop, stocking stuff from all over the world. (I think you can buy from downstairs and drink upstairs if you so wish). The beers they have upstairs are interesting. When I went they had a strawberry beer and Brooklyn both of which...

The House of Trembling Madness is quite simply unique. After climbing the stairs you are greeted by a small room full of character. There are many stuffed animals decorating the walls, looking down at the eclectic mix of patrons enjoying the fine beers, spirits and very good food.Seating is scarce in such a busy place, so jump in wherever you can....

My sister and I visited on the 5th of June on recommendation from our parents. When entering was a bit apprehensive but once we got sat down with a drink all reservations went away. The atmosphere was buzzing, we ordered food and were told it was a hours wait but we were served much quicker. Food was unique but full...

We live in York and had seen the excellent reviews so were keen to give this place a try.
We decided to visit for Sunday lunch on 19th May. Knowing the place upstairs only has a few tables, we arrived early. We were glad we did as the place filled up very shortly after.
The service was friendly and the...

I am very sorry about the stew. We had a trial run for 3 days on stews made by Kezie Foods, the idea was to sell their stews instead of the ones I cook to allow me my first holiday since the business started. The samples they produced seemed okay and we tried them out to the public, after 3...

Thanks to all the staff at the House of Trembling madness for all the help both before and during our visit. A free round of drinks for me and my new Fiance, our favourite songs playing as we came in. Thanks to both Ian and Aiden, the perfect weekend!!
I was lucky enough to spend yesterday evening in what I think is a superb pub.
The range of beers they serve is quite frankly superb well looked after and served with "love".
Others have commented about the quality of the food that is served from such a small area behins the bar - the Madness Platter consisted of quality...
