If you are walking down Stonegate in York with your back to the Minster, you will pass a single shop front on your right hand side that looks like a newsagent / cigarette shop, but step inside and on the ground floor you have a cornucopia of bottled beers, literally hundreds of different brews from all round the world and... This is a bar above a shop. The shop sells all the independent brewery beers and spirits and wines you have never heard of, a place where there are many a unique xmas / birthday present available. Upstairs is a small and mad, bar. There is a limit of the amount of people allowed in here, there is a man... More

What a whacky place. Reminded us very much of many Bruges beer bars we've been in. If it looks busy don't just turnaround but try and cosy on to the corner of someone's table or around the bar. People coming and going all the time. Food is good too particularly the platters, just right with the excellent beers on offer.

This is fantastic ! A wonderful selection of small brewery ales, great rustic food, crazy decorations - animal lovers be warned ! Small and cosy but everyone's your friend. Has to be the smallest bar serving area in the world ?

What a fantastic place to meet and enjoy great ale and tapas style food. Wonderful atmosphere with an eclectic decor. Very intimate and just so different. The wonderful ale shop below must be seen to be believed!

My friend took me here and told me about the large beer selection and she was right! I found lots of beers from all over the world and lots of beers that I enjoyed at bars I've gone to in the past. We waited for a short amount of time before heading upstairs for a table. It was crowded for... More

From the outside it looks like a simple off licence. Upstairs however is a tiny pub with a fantastic range of beers and wonderful food at a great price. The Hunters Platter was beautiful and we'll worth the money. Definitely worth a visit!

This is a hidden gem. Only found out about it because of tripadvisor. So pleased we visited. Its very well hidden and was busy both times we popped in. On the first visit we had food. I had the steak and ale pie, mash and mushy peas. It was first class. My wife was equally impressed with the stew of... More

I came here on a recommendation and was not disappointed. The pub was upstairs (above the shop) and the setting was very cosy and comfortable. My husband enjoyed the pie, mash and peas which was excellent value for money and tasted delicious. Would recommend and visit again

Our favourite place in york, visit here every time we come to York, we managed to get a table in 2 mins then ordered the hunters platter and the black pudding pork pie which are both great, washed down with milk coffee stout which is fantastic, see you next time we visit York
