Quirky bar above a beer and booze shop. A great fun place we just had drinks but the food looked good. The bar is tiny but full of character, we would recommend!!

On a fleeting trip to York we popped in purely because of the name. We then spend several happy hours drinking fab real ales and ciders and being entertained by the wonderful bar staff. We didn't eat (we should have!!) but all of the food coming out of the tiny bar looked amazing. It's a tiny bar with a 'one... More

Looks like an off licence from the front, once upstairs you are transported back to old York, great selection of beers and spirits, had a bite to eat, opted for the daily special of stew served with local artisane bread, wow, amazing!!! If your in York you must check this place out. PS when there check out the toilets, not what you'd... More

At first look this looks like a shop selling all the bottled beers under the sun. Then you go upstairs to fund a fantastic medieval-style vaulted ceiling with wooden beams. A great atmosphere and, although a slightly limited range of drinks at the bar, you can drink anything you've bought downstairs by paying a small corkage charge. A real gem!

We stopped off for lunch, not disappointed food is brilliant for price, really enjoyed the Madness Platter ...in fact had two days in a row! Need to get in early as they do struggle on space so can be a wait on food, however worth it.

Love this pub, visited again on Wednesday as it was my birthday. Once found, never forgotten (lots of people never find it and I'm not sharing). It is always busy and atmosphere is great. If you are a fan of boring ales such as found in your average pub, this place is not for you. They serve Belgian beers, bottled... More

Been here many times afor a drink but never eaten. Called in last Saturday when it was fairly quiet and had lunch. The food that comes from behind that small bar is simply wonderful, I had the Yorkshire platter with ham cheese pickle bread etc and my wife had the the Yorkshire rarebit that came with bacon on it. Truly... More

Would never have found this hidden restaurant if we weren't led there by a local. Looks like an ale specialist off licence until you climb the stairs to the tiny restaurant. We got there about 12.40pm and every table was already taken so we knew it must be good! Pounced on one and ordered some food from the really upbeat... More

Fantastic place in a Medieval hall (worth a look in itself), which is decorated with stuffed animal heads. A tiny bar staffed by friendly and knowledgeable young staff, serving a range of platters and good selection of ales from around the world. Also an extensive shop downstairs selling bottled beers and wines. Gets very busy (& warm) at times, but... More

A step back in time. Up the stairs to a medieval setting of timbered beams, stone walls and array of taxidermy which gives the place a truly unique quality. It has such a really relaxed atmosphere and the most tremendous food and ales. The local dark 'pale ale' is particularly good and the staff come up with good recommendations. The... More
