Quirky, interesting, fantastic are just a few way of describing this place. Love the restaurant upstairs & look forward to seeing what is on the menu each time we visit.

What a place! totally out of the ordinary, a shop with a eccentric pub upstairs, animal heads and skins everywhere, loads and loads of different ales, quirky staff, didn't eat here but food looked great, will eat next time when visiting York. if you want something different visit here.

Visited with family on a Tuesday afternoon. Very relaxed atmosphere, brilliant choice of ale and cider. Had lunch, would def recommend the pulled pork casserole... This is a fantastic little bar, and very far removed from the normal sort of public house.. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed.

We were told to visit here by friends and did not regret It. It has a shop on the ground and basement level while the bar/restaurant is on the first floor. At the outset, the restaurant is quite small but that adds to the character rw, and demand is very high, with a queue often forming, and access limited. It... More

Came recently for a visit after reading reviews on this site and it seemed a must do for someone touring the city. The pub situated above the shop is quirky, a word I used a lot that day to describe it to family and friends. The stuffed animal heads on the walls would not be to everyone's taste but it... More

I loved this place!! I've previously walked past this place which doubles as a shop, not knowing there was a bar upstairs. A hidden gem would be an understatement! real ales, wonderful home cooked food, a great atmosphere, you just have to visit it!! be warned it's very popular and don't be surprised if you have to queue. its well... Since my boyfriend went to university in York & introduced me to this place we have been back again, again & again! I absolutely love it, the food, the drink, the atmosphere & the friendly service. My personal favourite is the cheeseboard, all fresh & local ingredients to die for. You would never find it as its above a beer... More

Stumbled on this bar by chance. The beer shop downstairs is amazing, never seen such a wide range of beers from all over the world. The bar upstairs is very cosy and had a great atmosphere. The staff are very knowledgeable about the beers for sale. Wasn't brave enough to try a shot of 70% beer, maybe next time!

The name just draws you in! Three floors of wonder. The beer library on the ground floor is comprehensive. I had a lot of difficulty choosing my poison. The basement is a spirits library and the top floor is a nice homey pub. The tenders have great knowledge of all beers currently on tap and there are plenty of animals... More
