I came here based solely on the name. It was up the stairs inside a bottle shop, and had the original 12th-century timber-framed common room. It's a fairly small space, and got quite crowded, but the food was good, they had a nice variety of cider, and the staff were all friendly.

Myself and my wife spent a couple of hours here over the weekend and we absolutely love the place as its so different to anywhere else we've ever been. This was the second time we visited and had drink and food both times which didn't disapoint so there are consistant high standards. This time we both had the blue cheese... More

Bartenders were really attentive and made sure that we enjoyed the beer we selected. The food was so interesting and delicious. So glad we were able to get a table and spend a great night!

Went to this place after a recommendation by a local person in York. Had to stand in line for a few minutes, no problem with that since the store is a cool place to walk around in. Up in the bar I liked the interior, very different compared to other places. And as most places in York, it is very... More

I have been with my partner and friends many times the food is very good. However in my last visited with my partner we ordered hamburger, soup of the day and Steak Pie. We thought to order the snack pie but we only order pie and they put the large. Finally was to much food in my opinion I think... More

Been here many times now and still so easy to miss the entrance but so worth making the effort to seek it out. Many unusual beers and ciders sold here - perfect for real ale lovers too. If u sample a new beer and like it you can buy some to take home from the shop downstairs on the way... More

This place is gem! It's a very small venue but it's well worth the wait if it's full. Amazing room and a great atmosphere. I've been a number of times and I've had the burger more or less every time! It's absolutely amazing, probably one of the best I've ever had. To boot, they also have a ridiculously good selection... More
