When ever we visit york this is one place we always go in for a couple of drinks. Always enjoy the feel of the place (is always early when we go so quiet but great vibe.) Tried a couple of beers which I enjoyed, the lad serving me though did not know much about the brass castle beer, saying from... More

I really like this pub it's rustic and has a great oldy worldy feel to it. There are plenty of ales to choose from although it's expensive compared to other places so we only had the one. Still a nice pub to visit and I do recommend it.

Great atmosphere and hugely popular, we were really pleased we managed to get a seat!! Delicious platters at reasonable prices, definitely worth a visit when visiting York. The Strawberry beer was delicious, so much so I bought some from their shop downstairs which is well stocked with ales and ciders.

Although I have around York for 8 years I have never been inside. From the outside it looks like a nice shop and going in you are surrounded by what seems like hundreds of different bottled beers. Then we noticed that there was a pub upstairs and thought it was worth a look and we were certainly not disappointed. Dating... More

Good olives and good selection of quirky ales/drinks. Would recommend if you can get in and get a seat.

Don't get me wrong this is a great place to visit for a drink and certainly in a place like York but it seems to me they are trying to do too much with so little space. I'm all for expanding but if you haven't got room for a kitchen then its probably best not to serve food or at... More

Intimate venue, with a lot of warmth and a great place if you are open to conversation with strangers - it is small so sometimes sharing a bench or table is a must if you want to sit. The staff make sure it isn't overcrowded though, and both nights we were there it was a friendly if a little loud... More

Although we didn't eat here my husband and I both acknowledged the food looked delicious that the staff were preparing. What a charming little place to find. A but deceptive to the naked eye as the entrance looks like an ale shop but once inside the staff are friendly, knowledgable about different beers and chatty. Will definitely return!

Had planned for A drink here and then off for a curry....we never made it to the curry house! Everything at HOTM was spot on, great beers, excellent atmosphere, good staff and quality food. Loved it!
