Not really, but it is unique. Good modern pub food and lots of craft beers. The place is small but, when we were there, there's enough turnover that waits were short. It took us a while to get oriented to the medieval room. This is not to be missed.

Went into the shop downstairs and noticed the bar upstairs . Went up for a drink it's quite busy but what a nice place . I say nice lots of animal heads and bits on the walls . The beers a great. We also tried food we had a hunters board which at £9 is a bargain . Overall a... More

Started off with some tasty beers and bar snacks. Pretty pricey but Belgian beers tend to be, don't they? Food choices were limited to platters and pies and they'd sold out of all but one pie by 8 pm. It was graduation night here I suppose and so a non-booking policy helped as our first 3 choices were full on... More

Tiny place upstairs in the beer shop (which probably has the best selection of beers in the north of England) - only seating for maybe 30-40 people and a tiny bar-come kitchen but the selection of beers is great and cozy, interesting decor with various stuffed animal heads and paraphernalia on the walls. It can be hard to get a... More

What a great atmosphere! Bits and bobs hanging off the walls and huge antique-y furniture. Great strawberry beer. And the Madness Platter is not to be missed (smoked chicken and duck, cheese, hot peppers, salad, bread, and plum chutney).

Enter through the booze shop, up the stairs into a small, beamed ceilinged room, with all manner of eclectic wall hangings, from stuffed animal heads to various musical instruments. Yes it's small and they squeeze the tables in but if it's full do wait for a table, as it's unlikely to be more than 10 minutes, just enough time to... More

There is little to say that hasn't already been said about this weird, wonderful, atmospheric medieval ale-hall cum eating place cum gallery of taxidermy on Stonegate. Except maybe to make sure you don't miss the tiny entrance and end up in the Evil Eye Lounge (which is perfectly ok but not a patch on THotTM) by mistake instead.

Plucked this one off Tripadvisor as a dinner option. Walked by it in the afternoon to recon hours, and I'd have never in a million years guessed there's a pub upstairs. Downstairs is a massive beer store on street level. Armed with (your) Tripadvisor advice, we came back at 1700 for an early dinner. We were really lucky to get... More

We loved this little place - atmosphere, food & service was top notch. There are not many tables but if you can't get one straight away you should wait as it's definitely worth the wait. And don't be put off by the lack of kitchen. We had the Hunters platter & Yorkshire platter & washed it down with some of... More
