Very good formal tea

My undergraduates and I had a very pleasant formal tea here as our final group meal together. The food was very good and the staff pleasant and helpful. There were four types of sandwiches (cheese/pickle, tomato/rocket, ham/mustard, was the fourth Salmon?), an Eton Mess, small spice muffin, lemon... read more

I visited this hotel for a meal with my husband and it was a most relaxing and romantic evening. The food was lovely. My husband is quite picky about his steaks and it was cooked perfectly. It was quiet when we visited so we had a dining area to ourselves which you would expect to be strange or uncomfortable but... More

We had luch here and it was wonderful. The food was very tastey and we had a jug of Pimms with it which had lots of lovely fresh fruit in it. Our waiter was a true gent and really made our experience. Shame there arent more young men like him around in the world! Would definitely recomend this place to... More

The setting is beautiful with glorious gardens with the city walls as a backdrop. The weather was inclement so we had to eat inside. The dining room is elegant and the service very good. We waited for friends to arrive on comfortable sofas and then went into lunch. Unfortunately one of the dishes we chose was not available owing to... More

We didn't stay here but visited twice during our stay for drinks and cocktails. Its the most amazing building with beautiful gardens overlooking the city wall. Refined and elegant, its definitely somewhere I would like to stay for a special occasion. The staff were friendly and not stuffy which is refreshing.

This was my second visit to Grays Court. (Previously had a wonderful family meal at Xmas). Beautiful building tucked down a side road behind the Minster and Treasurers House NT with views of the gardens and city walls beyond from the dining room. Attentive staff. The restaurant can be closed especially on Saturdays due to weddings.

Our family came for afternoon tea after reading a review in Rick Steves' guidebook. The setting is absolutely lovely. Beautiful building and gorgeous gardens. The tea service, however, was lacking. We placed an order for two afternoon tea services, and we barely saw our server again. We were the only ones in the dining room, although the garden had more... More

I was so sorry to read of your disappointing visit here, and have discussed your review with my team in order to ascertain just what went wrong on this occasion. That your order took far too long to arrive is clear, we were very busy that afternoon but you should have been advised there would be a delay as there... More

My husband and I stumbled upon this place while walking along the wall around York. We saw the exquisite garden and immediately found our way to Grays Court. We spent the rest of the afternoon drinking champagne on the lawn while playing with the dogs who I presumed to be the owner's. It was a lovely day. The prices are... More

Grays Court served some of the best food I have ever tried in York, amazing lamb in a delicious sauce for a main and mackerel pate for a starter were absolutely delicious. My only niggle was that I wanted larger portions! The atmosphere is relaxed, the staff were attentive and polite and service was excellent all night. I will certainly... More

Booked this venue following a good experience here in January for a reunion with five friends.. Arrived at 12.30 & had to search for staff for menus. Ordered by 12.45 after some confusion over wrong menus, 3 people had outdated menus. There was only one other couple in the restaurant who were promptly served & onto their coffees before our...
