A Truly English Wedding

I attended this venue for a wedding. It is centrally located in York [so parking is a no go] but nestled privately down the backstreets right by York Minster. The building, inside and out, is steeped in history and you certainly get the feel you are going back in time as you walk in. The walled... read more

Walked into the garden, escorted by a young waiter under the name of jake. A great character who expressed his love for cricket and a good ale. We got a long very well. Just want to say that staff like Jake made my stay so much better. Me and my Friend Phil Reed ate Chicken Kievs.

Visited Saturday 11th April with my wife, daughter and partner. Did not know what to expect as I had been given the booking as a Birthday gift. On entering the Hotel very impressed, made our way upstairs to the Bar area to find seating reserved for us. Served quickly with drinks, food orders taken as we sat having a relaxed... More

This is a wonderful, atmospheric building in a historic part of the city adjacent to the Minster. Not obviuos to find, a little off main thoroughfares and not signposted. I had discovered the place through a cororate 'workshop' event and fell in love with it. I told my wife about it and we booked ourselves and two friends in to... More

The hotel is well placed behind the minster, so you have calm and quiet , history and yet central location. I booked because I wanted to reserve a table for lunch and didnt want to queue for 40minutes to get a table at the usual popular haunts. The interior is elegantly decorated and very unique, Food? as I said erratic.... More

Thank you for your comments, I will look at the fruit cake, I have mentioned this to the kitchen before, and we need to look at this again as a matter of urgency. I am sorry that you were not happy and would be more than happy to either refund or ask you to try this again with my compliments.... More

I booked for a party of eight for lunch just before Christmas. Although they had a wedding reception that afternoon and were generally closed to other business, they were good enough to fit us in, and in order to help them, we happily agreed to order in advance. The place itself is simply jaw-dropping, particularly if you have an interest... More

I would like to offer my heartfelt thanks for your taking the time to post your review. The building is as you say remarkable, and my team and I try our best to live up to it. We all work really hard to make everyone’s visit a success, and for the most part I believe we do. Of course there... More

I had stopped visiting Grays Court because although the setting is undeniably lovely, the service can be shambolic and the prices are high. This afternoon I was part of a graduation reunion party, meeting for afternoon tea. The management had been advised of the size of the party, but on arrival the room was not set for the correct number.... More

I understand that when a complaint is received there is usually something to take from it, and that as the owner of the business I need to listen carefully to understand what has happened, and if there is a way to improve service here. In this case however, I am dismayed, indeed furious with this review. Yes, the event was... More

We had to wait a very long time for our food (almost an hour for 2 starters and 2 mains to come at the same time). When it did arrive the baked Camembert was totally dry inside. Maybe it's a special dry variety. We only got two of the three portions of chips ordered (those that came were soggy). Staff... More
