Grays Court is a boutique hotel and heritage property in York that boasts over 900 years of colourful history. Nestled between the Minster and city walls. We are a one-off, a country house hotel in the heart of the city waiting to be explored. As well as nine individual luxury bedrooms, we house a vibrant cafe/bar and walled garden which proved a beautiful and original venue for meetings, private dining and celebrations.

This was my second visit to Grays Court. (Previously had a wonderful family meal at Xmas). Beautiful building tucked down a side road behind the Minster and Treasurers House NT with views of the gardens and city walls beyond from the dining room. Attentive staff. The restaurant can be closed especially on Saturdays due to weddings.

Our family came for afternoon tea after reading a review in Rick Steves' guidebook. The setting is absolutely lovely. Beautiful building and gorgeous gardens. The tea service, however, was lacking. We placed an order for two afternoon tea services, and we barely saw our server again. We were the only ones in the dining room, although the garden had more... More

I was so sorry to read of your disappointing visit here, and have discussed your review with my team in order to ascertain just what went wrong on this occasion. That your order took far too long to arrive is clear, we were very busy that afternoon but you should have been advised there would be a delay as there... More

My husband and I stumbled upon this place while walking along the wall around York. We saw the exquisite garden and immediately found our way to Grays Court. We spent the rest of the afternoon drinking champagne on the lawn while playing with the dogs who I presumed to be the owner's. It was a lovely day. The prices are... More

Grays Court served some of the best food I have ever tried in York, amazing lamb in a delicious sauce for a main and mackerel pate for a starter were absolutely delicious. My only niggle was that I wanted larger portions! The atmosphere is relaxed, the staff were attentive and polite and service was excellent all night. I will certainly... More

Booked this venue following a good experience here in January for a reunion with five friends.. Arrived at 12.30 & had to search for staff for menus. Ordered by 12.45 after some confusion over wrong menus, 3 people had outdated menus. There was only one other couple in the restaurant who were promptly served & onto their coffees before our... Celebrated my 18th wedding anniversary here this weekend. The gorgeous hotel can quite easily give 5* hotels a run for the money & win hands down! Comfy beds, fabulous food, caring helpful staff. Stunning rooms, Claridges & The Ritz, customer service , take note. However, a few bits & bobs need touching up but this adds to the charm. Thank... More

Posh restaurant, part of a hotel located in a historic building. The food was excellent, generous helpings and reasonable prices. Great location, right behind the York Minster.

Wow, what a hidden gem, full of history. Staff friendly and polite. My daughter first took us here a year before. She was delayed as she was was having her hair done and we were a group of 5. Even though they were busy nothing was too much trouble and in fact they gave us the library so it was... More

Beautiful hotel, full of character and charm. My fiancé and I almost chose this venue for our wedding although, we decided the main room was too small for our reception and some area's of the hotel needed a bit of a tidy. But we will definitely visit again!

I attended this venue for a wedding. It is centrally located in York [so parking is a no go] but nestled privately down the backstreets right by York Minster. The building, inside and out, is steeped in history and you certainly get the feel you are going back in time as you walk in. The walled garden is charming and... More
