Description: DuelWe are deeply proud of Duel. We celebrate our passion for good, our love of ingredients and respect for classic flavours, but we do so with a smile and with an inquisitive mind as we explore how modern techniques can enhance or even challenge the traditional. Grays Court is a boutique hotel and heritage property in York that boasts over 900 years of colourful history. Nestled between the Minster and city walls. We are a one-off, a country house hotel in the heart of the city waiting to be explored. As well as seven individual luxury bedrooms, we house a vibrant cafe and walled garden which proved a beautiful and original venue for meetings, private dining and celebrations.

I had stopped visiting Grays Court because although the setting is undeniably lovely, the service can be shambolic and the prices are high. This afternoon I was part of a graduation reunion party, meeting for afternoon tea. The management had been advised of the size of the party, but on arrival the room was not set for the correct number.... More

I understand that when a complaint is received there is usually something to take from it, and that as the owner of the business I need to listen carefully to understand what has happened, and if there is a way to improve service here. In this case however, I am dismayed, indeed furious with this review. Yes, the event was... More

We had to wait a very long time for our food (almost an hour for 2 starters and 2 mains to come at the same time). When it did arrive the baked Camembert was totally dry inside. Maybe it's a special dry variety. We only got two of the three portions of chips ordered (those that came were soggy). Staff... More

Snuggled behind the imposing Minster, and with a Dining Room view of the city walls, we had a celebratory family lunch in the peace and tranquility of this hideaway in the very centre of the tourist centre of York. Grays Court is an oasis, with welcoming, and accommodating staff. The dining room overlooks the city walls. Lunch menu was broad... More

Excellent service, comfy seating, like being in the sitting room of a grand house, which is what it is. Good selection of tea & coffee. Great for a rest during sight-seeing.

As York residents, we get to eat in lots of historic buildings. Gray's Court is something special, both in terms of building, and overall. The staff were really helpful in accomodating our party (The Hobbit's Fine Dining Club, as we sometimes refer to ourselves) on a day when they could have easily simply refused the booking. The food was really... More

Forget the amazing building and cracking location, there is so much more to this place (though the aforementioned must be admired). We stayed here for a few nights and also chose it as our wedding venue. Could not have asked for anymore. I'll rate Grays as a wedding venue first (as that was my first experience of it, having been... More

I recently stayed here for bed and breakfast. The breakfast is advertised as "memorable". It was, but for the wrong reasons. One of the choices on offer was pancakes, bacon and maple syrup. Another alternative was a full English breakfast of bacon, eggs, sausage, tomatoes, black pudding and mushrooms. The only problem was that there was no bacon!!! It had... More

This was recommended by our B&B owner so we thought - what the heck lets take a punt and check it out. The hotel is bit dandy for a 'boutique' hotel but who cares - check out the walled gardens at the back - this is where the magic happens ! If you can get the summer house then you... More

We just had drinks in the garden. The setting was beautiful, the drinks were good, but i have had far better service in a motorway services. Indifferent, sullen and slothful youths. Ihad to ask 3 times for our table to be cleared and then separately for it to be cleaned, and we were i nthere with just one other couple.... More

Grays Court is right behind the Minster. You really couldn't get any closer. We stayed in the Willoughby Suite & it is beautiful.Had the best 2 nights sleep in the enormous four poster bed. Lovely views of the garden where we watched a squirrel playing early in the morning. On arrival we were greeted by friendly staff & offered lovely warm... More
