Description: Nineteen Restaurant is a sophisticated little gem nestled in York's vibrant Grape Lane. Situated in one of York's oldest buildings, dating back to 1437, Nineteen provides a relaxing and contemporary atmosphere. The assured menu boasts plenty of fresh seafood and local North Yorkshire produce. Popular dishes include the Whitby fish pie with cheesy topping and the char-grilled ribeye steak served with Bearnaise and triple cooked chips. If that's not enough to make your date doe-eyed, try reminding them that Grape Lane was once an infamous institution in York's old red light district, known to locals as Grope Lane.

We stayed in York for 3 nights over New Year. We began to realize that a number of restaurants were closed on New Year's Day and were scrambling to figuring where to eat dinner. We stumbled on reviews for Nineteen and phoned to find out whether they were open and they were. It was an excellent choice. The service was... More

A quiet Saturday lunch time after visiting York Minster. Feeling more peckish and not wanting to join the madding crowd on the high street joints. This restaurant looked full of character from the outside: kitchen on the top floor, main restaurant on first floor and a smaller area on the ground floor with just one window. Nice and quiet and... The food here was outstanding, every course was delicious, really was some of the tastiest food I've ever had. I would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant, we sat by the big window upstairs, really nice view and great atmosphere, a little bit chilly by the window tho so take something to cover your arms! If we return to York we would... More

Came here for a birthday celebration end Oct 2014 and had the best table in the place. Went on a Sunday evening so was very quiet and set menu was mains and desserts only, but both main courses were absolutely delicious. The service was spot on: very attentive waiter and really lovely atmosphere. Gave our compliments to the chef at... More

Spotted this place in a local review and was very lucky to do so. Lovely venue hidden in Grape Street gives you no idea of what is inside. Food is of the very top quality and the service is to match. I have paid a lot more and not had as good a meal as in this establishment. Drinks were... More

My wife and I were shopping in York for late Christmas presents. I'd read good reviews about Nineteen, and we chanced upon it as we walked back to our hotel. We liked the look of it, and the menu, and were not disappointed. The location, intimate atmosphere, the quality of the fish dishes, the attentive service, all contributed to a... More

Dined here last Saturday evening. Top quality meal in a really quaint area of York. Great variety on the menu. I had the blade of beef and my partner the fillet steak - both cooked to absolute perfection, and presented impeccably. You can really tell that the chefs care! Our waiter was a young lad with glasses (we didn't catch... More

Ate here on Sunday evening. £40 a couple plus a bottle of house wine (or £10 off a listed bottle). The food was amazing with a great choice on the menu. It is a very cosy and intimate setting. The staff are friendly and attentive. Brilliant location with a view down the cobbled streets of York. Definitely recommended and will... More
