Nineteen Restaurant is a sophisticated little gem nestled in York's vibrant Grape Lane. Situated in one of York's oldest buildings, dating back to 1437, Nineteen provides a relaxing and contemporary atmosphere. The assured menu boasts plenty of fresh seafood and local North Yorkshire produce. Popular dishes include the Whitby fish pie with cheesy topping and the char-grilled ribeye steak served with Bearnaise and triple cooked chips. If that's not enough to make your date doe-eyed, try reminding them that Grape Lane was once an infamous institution in York's old red light district, known to locals as Grope Lane.

It doesn't get better than this

Just got back from a really lovely meal at nineteen. I have to say it is one of the nicest meals we have ever had . I would highly recommend it to anyone . It wasn't the cheapest meal we have had , but in my opinion it was worth every penny for a special treat . The staff were... read more

Characterful venue in the heart of York close to the Minster - the building is centuries old - and truly excellent food. We started with warm pork scratchings: if the idea of grim old-fashioned pub snacks deters you, rest assured these are a class apart - they were so good, we had a second portion. The menu's fairly short, with... More

A characterful little restaurant in The Shambles, with an excellent menu. Our meals were superb, the wine very pleasant and the local cheeseboard a real treat. Will definitely go again on our next visit.

Me and my boyfriend had dinner here while visiting York. We both agreed that we had here the best food we ever had in England (and we've been living here for four years). Definitely the best risotto and the plum stake was mind blowing!! The wine was also nice, and the service was excellent. The waitress was very nice and... More

Interesting menu. Food well presented, with well-judged portions but overall result lacked little impact. Good wine list. Waiting staff were friendly and pleasant but made some elementary mistakes which detracted from experience. Service needs to be a little more thought through with more attention to detail.

Excellent food, really well presented. The service could have been a little quicker with drinks orders when we arrived but after that, the service was excellent. Warm and friendly ambience and the team worked hard to ensure we had a good evening. I would book again on my next visit to York.

My wife and I visited Nineteen in York on a Saturday evening for a meal. The restaurant is small but full of character. Watch your head if you are over 6' 3 ! The waiting staff were all extremely welcoming and helpful throughout the evening. The meal was absolutely delicious particularly the 36 Hr Feather Blade of Beef and the... More

A great dinner experience from walking in the door to walking out. THE FOOD Starters: we had the slow braised pig's cheek (so tender) and had to try the blue cheese crème brûlée - wow that is something quite special I have never had - but SO good. Mains: we (both) had one of the specials: monkfish with crayfish, samphire... More

We visited again on our annual trip to York and for some reason, the atmosphere did not seem the same, menu was different from last time so in theory our fault for booking Sunday evening and was limited to main and desert. Although it was good value and you get a free bottle of wine, the most annoying thing was... More
