Nineteen Restaurant is a sophisticated little gem nestled in York's vibrant Grape Lane. Situated in one of York's oldest buildings, dating back to 1437, Nineteen provides a relaxing and contemporary atmosphere. The assured menu boasts plenty of fresh seafood and local North Yorkshire produce. Popular dishes include the Whitby fish pie with cheesy topping and the char-grilled ribeye steak served with Bearnaise and triple cooked chips. If that's not enough to make your date doe-eyed, try reminding them that Grape Lane was once an infamous institution in York's old red light district, known to locals as Grope Lane.

Loved the location

My partner had requested a romantic table and we were given a lovely 1st floor window position. The staff are lovely, especially Boy Wonder. Great service! All our food was cooked to perfection and of high quality. Couldn't fault a thing. Perfect!

Really deserves 3 1/2 stars. Quaint restaurant steps from the York Ministry. Food was good, but not memorable. Really need to work a bit more on getting their flavors and seasoning to pop. A few highlights, but mostly pretty ordinary. Service was good with friendly attentive staff, but not high end professional. Price was reasonable with a party of 4... More

Visited this restaurant last year and was so impressed(as my old review will show). So we made sure we booked again for a return visit, how disappointed we were. From start to finish it was shambolic.Only one waiting staff on duty(not knocking the young girl, she did a sterling job and was the one positive to come out of the evening) We waited... More

My husband and I ate here for our anniversary on a Friday night. Sadly it wasn't as special as I remember it being last time. The food was still lovely but the atmosphere was lacking. We sat downstairs which was a little dark & dingy compared to last time when we were lucky enough to get the "table by the... More

Enjoy a meal and ask for the table for two upstairs in the window. On a Sunday two main courses cost £40 and you get a free bottle of house wine or £10 off any other bottle. Food is cooked to order and the ambiance is good. On Swinegate near Barley Hall which is also worth a visit.

In York for the weekend and looking for somewhere to eat on Sunday night - aware that often difficult to get a table I read reviews on Trip Advisor and settled on Nineteen. I booked through Open Table - a new experience. A truly quaint little place for sure. We were quite early 7pm and it was quite empty but... More

We ate at Nineteen on a Saturday night and sat at a great table upstairs looking out onto the street. Nineteen is very quaint and has a great warm feel about it. Our waiter "boy wonder" was very pleasant and cheerful. We had the scotch egg and the fish cake to start and the trout and 36hr beef to follow.... More

Decided to try this place out for Sunday lunch. We had 2 courses for £11.95. The food was absolutely delicious. My husband particularly enjoyed his starter of blue cheese mousse, which was just a little bit different. My main of roast beef was cooked to perfection. We were both really pleased with our choice of venue- there are so many... More
