Nineteen Restaurant is a sophisticated little gem nestled in York's vibrant Grape Lane. Situated in one of York's oldest buildings, dating back to 1437, Nineteen provides a relaxing and contemporary atmosphere. The assured menu boasts plenty of fresh seafood and local North Yorkshire produce. Popular dishes include the Whitby fish pie with cheesy topping and the char-grilled ribeye steak served with Bearnaise and triple cooked chips. If that's not enough to make your date doe-eyed, try reminding them that Grape Lane was once an infamous institution in York's old red light district, known to locals as Grope Lane.

I eat out a lot, but seldom review, nineteen is a real gem - was here years ago but if anything it just gets better - friendly and really helpful staff - fantastic food. Blade of braised beef, scotch egg with black pudding - what's not to love

Went on a Friday evening. We were welcomed and shown to our table. Service was very efficient and friendly and the food was delicious. Lovely atmosphere, it is quite cosy when fully booked but I think this adds to the ambience. We didn't have a starter because we fancied a dessert instead. Both our main courses, the monkfish and the... More

I have to say thank you again to fellow reviewers who gave this restaurant a high rating. Our third night out in York was, yet again, a positive dining experience. We both loved the cosy interior of this restaurant with its period beams. Yes, it is a bit tight when full but only adds to the experience. Not a huge... More

We called in as a group of 3 couples on saturday afternoon and cannot complain about the cake or the warm drink we all ordered but I cannot understand why 2 of the drinks arrived 10 minutes after everyone else and all the cake had been eaten. We did point out when the other drinks arrived that we were 2... More

Was greeted perfectly as we entered Nineteen through a small door via an alleyway. Was sat to a cosy two person table lit by candles. We received fantastic service all night with quick food yet fantastic quality (haddock fishcakes/pork belly/white mousse). The pictures are very deceiving. What look like small portions are extremely filling as you can get some lovely... More

From the moment we entered to the moment we left the service was nothing short of impeccable, we sat upstairs in the window looking out at the hustle & bustle of the street which was great. The food, the presentation of the food, the wine & the whole ambience & expreience will ensure that we will be returning. I recommend... More

Perfect steak, beautiful lamb, nice house wine, 4 puddings in one, a mountain of cheese and all for less than £60 for 2. Service and atmosphere was great too, it was a lovely end to our weekend in York, will be coming back next time we are in the area. 10/10!

Booked Nineteen for a meal for my husbands 40th birthday with another couple after reading reviews on Trip Advisor. Food lovely, service good and staff very pleasant. The fishcake starter is delicious and the apple crumble dessert is to die for! My husband said the lamb for main was very good but he could have done with more! Its a... More
