Description: Nineteen Restaurant is a sophisticated little gem nestled in York's vibrant Grape Lane. Situated in one of York's oldest buildings, dating back to 1437, Nineteen provides a relaxing and contemporary atmosphere. The assured menu boasts plenty of fresh seafood and local North Yorkshire produce. Popular dishes include the Whitby fish pie with cheesy topping and the char-grilled ribeye steak served with Bearnaise and triple cooked chips. If that's not enough to make your date doe-eyed, try reminding them that Grape Lane was once an infamous institution in York's old red light district, known to locals as Grope Lane.

We returned for a visit to this wonderful restaurant, it's in a very old house and has such charm and character. If you are tall like me at 6ft 4" you need to duck a few times but the view from upstairs up the road is really good. The Sunday evening dinner is a good idea and very good value,... More

We went for dinner last night after making a reservation earlier in the day. The place is very small and probably only caters for around 30 covers. As it was a weekday, it did not seem very busy.we and another couple were the only patrons upstairs. This obviously makes it more romantic if required and if it is not recommended... More

We have used Nineteen before, and returned with expectations, it has maybe moved a little into popular territory but still the food is of a very good standard, maybe lacks a little atmosphere when quiet midweek, our waiter was very efficient and friendly

The owner of this small restauant is the chiefcook and he is really good. His staff is excellent and the maximum number of guest is about 30. The food is extremely good prepared and value for money. The atmosphere in this old house is very nice.

Me and my boyfriend vistited Nineteen for a special meal for my birthday. He is a chef and we both really enjoy eating out. We both had the lamb for main and it was amazing! One of the best meals I've ever eaten. The lamb was so tender and cooked perfectly. The menu is quite small but we were still... More

The food at this little restaurant was superb, with a menu with real good variety, but clearly specialising in Fish. I had a lovely starter of monkfish cheeks, which was fab. My main course of trio of lamb was a touch over cooked, but still beautiful. Service from an Irish girl who's name I've forgotten was very friendly and relaxed.... More

We came to York for a weekend break and were completely unprepared for the sheer volume of people in the city attending the York University graduation ceremony. On our quest for dinner, we became perturbed by the vast amount of restaurants turning us away as they were fully booked. Luckily, we spotted this little place tucked away (warning: the front... Had Sunday lunch there yesterday, and enjoyed it immensely. Three courses for around £15 (can't remember the exact price, but it was around that amount). I had blue cheese panna cotta for starter, which tasted delicious. You could really taste the cheese. There was also bread and chutney to go with it. A generous portion size too. For my main,... Service was very good and the food was delicious! Price of soft drinks was rather expensive which was a little disappointing.

Me and my family were showing family friends around York. We'd decided to go to a different restaurant which was fully booked. Knowing my mother wanted to take her friends to an excellent restaurant and being denied her first choice (In my opinion she was wrong about the best) I suggested Nineteen as it is often overlooked by locals for...
