Nineteen Restaurant is a sophisticated little gem nestled in York's vibrant Grape Lane. Situated in one of York's oldest buildings, dating back to 1437, Nineteen provides a relaxing and contemporary atmosphere. The assured menu boasts plenty of fresh seafood and local North Yorkshire produce. Popular dishes include the Whitby fish pie with cheesy topping and the char-grilled ribeye steak served with Bearnaise and triple cooked chips. If that's not enough to make your date doe-eyed, try reminding them that Grape Lane was once an infamous institution in York's old red light district, known to locals as Grope Lane.

Lovely food, creative and good for a night out

Have eaten here lots with my other half. The food is well presented, very well cooked and the chef is very creative. Well recommended is the 'Bar' steak, it is a superb cut of meat, charcoal grilled. I've always found the wine nice here, a good selection and very well priced... read more

I've always found the wine nice here, a good selection and very well priced, considering. The ambience of the restaurant is a little... More

Stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant whilst wandering the streets of York browsing menus. I'm so glad we decided to eat here and that they had a table available - the service, the food and the atmosphere were all outstanding! Although we managed to get a table for two I would advise booking as all the tables were taken... More

Exceptional dining experience and extremely friendly staff. Have eaten here a couple of times and always really enjoyed it. The food and wine choices make for a great meal. Highly recommended

Ate here with friends last night (Fri 17th) on their recommendation. Cannot fault anything. The staff are very friendly and Chef Chris is very talented. The fact that he knew we wanted the cheeseboard and let it come up to room temp before serving it is just one example of the attention to detail. My belly pork was delicious as... More

Had a very good value Sunday lunch. Right in the middle of York. Set price menu. Four choices per course. Food was expertly cooked and presented. Black Pudding Scotch Egg starter was very good. Belly pork mains with huge Yorkshire and veg was very tasty. Service efficient and friendly.

The waitress was young and lacked experience, not her fault, down to the lack of training by the management I suspect. What we ate was of good quality, when we eventually found dishes that on their short menu was available. The chicken dish as a starter was not available neither were main courses, cod with prawns and samphire or fillet... More

Disappointment is well to the fore after my visit to 19. Many very happy reviewers cannot be wrong, I'm not wrong in my experience of 19, therefore the kitchen lacks consistency. A quiet Tuesday night in York, only one other couple dining and one lone waitress on. Took a seat upstairs ( by the window, good for people watching in... More

We ate here on Friday night having booked well in advance as advised to get an upstairs window table for two (it’s the one pictured on their website) The Medieval building has oodles of character and charming throughout. We were well looked after by the Staff. We were sat next to two German & Dutch couples who made the evening... More
