Nineteen Restaurant is a sophisticated little gem nestled in York's vibrant Grape Lane. Situated in one of York's oldest buildings, dating back to 1437, Nineteen provides a relaxing and contemporary atmosphere. The assured menu boasts plenty of fresh seafood and local North Yorkshire produce. Popular dishes include the Whitby fish pie with cheesy topping and the char-grilled ribeye steak served with Bearnaise and triple cooked chips. If that's not enough to make your date doe-eyed, try reminding them that Grape Lane was once an infamous institution in York's old red light district, known to locals as Grope Lane.

My husband and I were really hungry after one of our ghost walk tours, and we randomly came across Nineteen. The restaurant had one table open on the second floor, which we gladly took. The building is charming and old, and my husband had to duck down to clear the ceiling in order to get to our table. We started... More

I don't have much more to say really, this is a small intimate bistro in the city centre that is full of character warmth and good food. The roast beef on Sunday is particularly fine (although some odd cut -Silverside??- that we don't really eat in the South. Proper stodgy puds and friendly unrushed service. Nice.

My partner took me here for a surprise birthday meal and I must say it was absolutely wonderful ! We were seated upstairs near the window, probably the best table in the restaurant, overlooking the old street, Swinegate. We had the " Tasting Menu " which was really rather special, and a lovely Rioja. The waitress explained each course to... More

Cheery welcome and seated upstairs as we walked in 10mins before 2pm lunch cut off. Shared nibbles starer was adequate . Main course of streak burger was excellent, fresh saled and chips to accompany. Sweets of treacle tart and cheese board to die for! Accompanied by a carafe of house Malbec to finish off an impromptu birthday lunch. Good value... More

Very disappointing meal at this restaurant, one of the worst I've eaten in some time. The beef I had was bland, dry and served with pedestrian side dishes. Portion sizes were good. The prices are very high and I have eaten far better for half the cost of this place. On the plus side the waiting staff were lovely and... More

We had been to Nineteen before and always had good food. Last night was a last minute decision as it was getting on a bit. Fortunately the waitress found us a table in the small but perfectly formed and undoubtedly charming restaurant. We love this place not because of its dainty proportions, or it's super attentive staff, but because it... More

Have eaten here lots with my other half. The food is well presented, very well cooked and the chef is very creative. Well recommended is the 'Bar' steak, it is a superb cut of meat, charcoal grilled. I've always found the wine nice here, a good selection and very well priced, considering. The ambience of the restaurant is a little... More

Stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant whilst wandering the streets of York browsing menus. I'm so glad we decided to eat here and that they had a table available - the service, the food and the atmosphere were all outstanding! Although we managed to get a table for two I would advise booking as all the tables were taken... More

Exceptional dining experience and extremely friendly staff. Have eaten here a couple of times and always really enjoyed it. The food and wine choices make for a great meal. Highly recommended
