Nineteen Restaurant is a sophisticated little gem nestled in York's vibrant Grape Lane. Situated in one of York's oldest buildings, dating back to 1437, Nineteen provides a relaxing and contemporary atmosphere. The assured menu boasts plenty of fresh seafood and local North Yorkshire produce. Popular dishes include the Whitby fish pie with cheesy topping and the char-grilled ribeye steak served with Bearnaise and triple cooked chips. If that's not enough to make your date doe-eyed, try reminding them that Grape Lane was once an infamous institution in York's old red light district, known to locals as Grope Lane.

Excellent dinner on Sunday evening

We chose from the Sunday Supper menu ( No starters) two mains with a bottle of house wine for forty pounds. Both dishes were excellent and the house red was good. the excellent and attentive service from the waitress was what made this an excellent evening.I look forward to another visit.

We had an amazing meal from the Sunday supper menu and it was served with flair. The waiter was attentive, a young PhD student. Thoroughly enjoyed the food and ambiance. My husband raved over the bubble and squeak!

Overall, this was, sadly, a very disappointing experience. We booked around two months in advance and was asked if this was a special occasion. The pleasant lady taking our booking noted a birthday but it was not noted during the meal. I was not unhappy about this but what was the point. Now for the meal. The pigeon starter was... More

Booked 2 weeks in advance as we had won a £65 voucher. Very dark and empty when we arrived for lunch. No ice for drinks, no orange juice, no chips as they had stuck to the side of the freezer and gone to smush (chefs words) only mash n new potatoes that hardly goes with battered fish or Steak burger,... As we stood outside the restaurant looking at the menu a local couple came up and assured us that Nineteen does the best Sunday lunch in York. So in we went - and we were not disappointed! The restaurant is quite small, although is has upstairs and downstairs space, which both have a nice, intimate atmosphere. The menu was limited... More

We stumbled across this lovely pub/ restaurant on a Sunday afternoon and are so glad we did! We both had the 2 course Sunday set lunch for 12 pounds each and it was worth every penny. My starter of crab and salmon was exquisite and Sergio loved the"proper" Yorkshire pudding he had with his main course of beef. The dessert... More

Booked for the Sunday Supper. Well recommended - absolutely fabulous and worth every penny. £40 for two main courses and bottle of house wine. We were waited on by a lovely young man called Brad, he is a great asset to the restaurant. Will definitely return

Visited midweek when it was quiet. The food is not cheap but it's worth it. A simple menu consisting mainly of local produce. I had the scallops, followed by the pheasant and cheese board. The wine was excellent and the service friendly. We weren't rushed either. £60 a head but a meal to remember.

Visited this popular restaurant with a friend having been several times before and always had a good experience ..... my friend was keen to sample the recommended delights.... never been herself...... Menu looks to have changed, skipped starters as they were not overly to our taste and ranged between £9-£12. Ordered pre starters instead in which garlic bread was good... More
