Description: Nineteen Restaurant is a sophisticated little gem nestled in York's vibrant Grape Lane. Situated in one of York's oldest buildings, dating back to 1437, Nineteen provides a relaxing and contemporary atmosphere. The assured menu boasts plenty of fresh seafood and local North Yorkshire produce. Popular dishes include the Whitby fish pie with cheesy topping and the char-grilled ribeye steak served with Bearnaise and triple cooked chips. If that's not enough to make your date doe-eyed, try reminding them that Grape Lane was once an infamous institution in York's old red light district, known to locals as Grope Lane.

We ate here after traipsing around York looking for somewhere nice, and I'm glad we stopped here. We ate Sunday lunch so it was £12 for 2 courses. There was a good range of choices and the food was delicious. The roast beef in particular was superb. The atmosphere was cosy and friendly, and the staff were very welcoming and... More

We ate here one Thursday night as a treat for my partner's birthday. The place was pretty full and the one waiter had his hands full but was efficient and kept everything moving. We were a bit disappointed that the choices were limited to 5 or 6 starters and the same of mains. However, what came out was beautifully cooked... More

Not quite sure why I've never visited this place before. Passing by on a rainy Sunday we saw the menu for Sunday lunch. A choice if nice starters, I had the smoked fish cake followed by melt in the mouth rare roast beef and an enormous yorkshire pud. At £12 for 2 courses its great value for money.

This was our 3rd time eating at Nineteen (the first time in the hands of the new chef) and we have never been disappointed! We chose to dine at lunchtime this time around, from their lunchtime menu. Arriving at around 1215 we were the first guests there and so were offered the 'best seat in the house' - in front... More

Ate here for an anniversary dinner and we weren't disappointed. The new spring menu had just started so it was different to that shown on the website. I had scallops to start and they were delicious, though for the price I think they could have served 3 instead of 2. My partner hasthe duck tartare which he didn't enjoy, no... More

Last night has just demonstrated me that there is magic in chef's hands! When last year, this restaurant was taken over by a young chef, I thought that he would be able to bring a breath of fresh air to the restaurant scene in York. And now that he has put his new menu on, with dishes that are his,... More

This is a fantastic place. If you can't get a table straight away, there 's a Slug and Lettuce round the side but make sure you wait for a table it's well worth it. The food is high quality produce cooked simply but expertly. The spring lamb is to die for as is the Blue cheese creme brulee. Highlight of... More

Four of us dined here on 30th March and found the food and service to be wonderful, but the evening was marred when we were asked to vacate the table as it had been booked out again. Now, had we been informed of this practise at the time of booking, some 3 weeks earlier, we would have changed the date... More
