Nineteen Restaurant is a sophisticated little gem nestled in York's vibrant Grape Lane. Situated in one of York's oldest buildings, dating back to 1437, Nineteen provides a relaxing and contemporary atmosphere. The assured menu boasts plenty of fresh seafood and local North Yorkshire produce. Popular dishes include the Whitby fish pie with cheesy topping and the char-grilled ribeye steak served with Bearnaise and triple cooked chips. If that's not enough to make your date doe-eyed, try reminding them that Grape Lane was once an infamous institution in York's old red light district, known to locals as Grope Lane.

Excellent!

Excellent food, really well presented. The service could have been a little quicker with drinks orders when we arrived but after that, the service was excellent. Warm and friendly ambience and the team worked hard to ensure we had a good evening. I would book again on my next visit to York.

My wife and I visited Nineteen in York on a Saturday evening for a meal. The restaurant is small but full of character. Watch your head if you are over 6' 3 ! The waiting staff were all extremely welcoming and helpful throughout the evening. The meal was absolutely delicious particularly the 36 Hr Feather Blade of Beef and the... More

A great dinner experience from walking in the door to walking out. THE FOOD Starters: we had the slow braised pig's cheek (so tender) and had to try the blue cheese crème brûlée - wow that is something quite special I have never had - but SO good. Mains: we (both) had one of the specials: monkfish with crayfish, samphire... More

We visited again on our annual trip to York and for some reason, the atmosphere did not seem the same, menu was different from last time so in theory our fault for booking Sunday evening and was limited to main and desert. Although it was good value and you get a free bottle of wine, the most annoying thing was... More

Visited for lunch with friends and we weren't disappointed. Quality of food was excellent and staff very welcoming. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

This was our second visit to this restaurant, and if it had been the first, it might be our last. The starters were delightful, the main courses were ok, but just weren't quite the standard we expected, our meats had been standing a little while and were just a bit dry on the outside, the veg were lovely, a shade... Well this is one of those places you actually want to be great and it nearly was....Just silly schoolboy errors, plates cold which would not normally be a problem but its coming all the way from upstairs so needs something to keep the food warm which it was only justwhich was a common problem with other guests that night ,... We happened to be passing and looked at the menu outside and decided to go in."Sam" the front of house/waitress made us very welcome and was excellent with her recommendations. We had the Sunday special which is two mains and a bottle of house wine for £40, the blade of beef with mushroom, bacon and baby onion melted in your mouth... More

I eat out a lot, but seldom review, nineteen is a real gem - was here years ago but if anything it just gets better - friendly and really helpful staff - fantastic food. Blade of braised beef, scotch egg with black pudding - what's not to love

Went on a Friday evening. We were welcomed and shown to our table. Service was very efficient and friendly and the food was delicious. Lovely atmosphere, it is quite cosy when fully booked but I think this adds to the ambience. We didn't have a starter because we fancied a dessert instead. Both our main courses, the monkfish and the... More
