Good food after a walk through York history

+ Good and fresh food, made with local produce; + Cosy atmosphere inside (a lot better than the view of the restaurant on the outside let's on to believe); + Nice quite restaurant after a busy day in historic York.

We booked here on spec based on the Trip Advisor reviews we read. It wasn't the top restaurant (not sure why not) but it was the first on the list for York that was open on Sunday evenings. We both had the two course fixed price menu at £16.95, starting with the Yorkshire puddings and gravy (when in Rome -... More

We enjoyed our dinner at the Go Down, which offers some creative twists on British cuisine. Our server was knowledgeable and helpful. Atmosphere is casual and comfortable.

Found this restaurant on trip advisor. Lovely ambience, small quirky restaurant with fabulous food at excellent value. Went for 3 course meal. Every course was presented well and tasted beautiful. Best goats cheese salad I have ever had.

My wife and I recently returned from a few days in York , a last minute break. We have been to York several times and have wanted to try this restraunt due to other reviews we have read. We booked on the same day for 1900 that evening. ( Booking is VERY MUCH recommended as we later found out). The... More

Myself and the missus ate here the other night and we cannot rave enough about The Go Down. The food was absolutely first rate, generous portions served at the perfect temperature, with exceptional customer service. We opted for the Fixed Price menu, which was a very reasonable £16.50 for two courses. For starters we had the black pudding and the... More

My local colleagues suggested this restaurant as a 'special' dining destination. I'm sorry to say I can't agree, I went once with a colleague for dinner and whilst it was pleasant, it was not in any way remarkable or special. You'll get a nice meal here but don't expect gourmet food.

We had a lovely meal on a Sunday evening. The restaurant was pretty quiet but weather was awful. We had the set price menu which was really good value. The food was amazing and we were served by the politest young man I have ever met. I would certainly reccomend.

Whilst attending a Hen weekend in York, we were very fortunate that our organiser chose this restaurant for our evening meal. The whole evening was outstanding for the eleven individuals attending, the fixed price menu was excellent value for money. The service provided by the staff was second to none and they catered for our every needs. A special mention... More
