The finest afternoon tea

Betty's is ideally situated for a break from shopping and/ or sightseeing in the city. Find this place, even if it is so crowded you cannot sit for tea or lunch. They sell some of the baked goods and chocolates from counters inside the front door. I bought some gingerbread which was amazing. It was crunchy and a little peppery and I wish I had bought more to bring home. It was unlike anything I... More

A coffee of fairly average quality and a very expensive pastry served by pleasant staff. If you have a phobia of small rather cramped places this would not be a particularly good choice for you! The waiting area for a table, to become free, is on a very narrow, curved staircase with a two-way flow of people.A definite no- go place for... More

I have been with 3 friends for a late breakfast, it was delicious bit a bit overpriced to be honest. We asked for an orange juice and in the glass there were more ice than juice. But I would go again..the place is absolutely cool.

For quintessential eating, Betty's is Yorkshire's finest. We were seated almost immediately at Harrogate, without having a reservation, service is impeccable, the haddock was full and fresh, afternoon tea (assorted sandwiches with a scone and clotted cream) was what you would expect of a claim of being the best the North of England has to offer. Couldn't help noticing the... More

I have visited York many times over the years and often call into Betty's for a morning or afternoon tea. If you are looking for a high tea experience and don't mind the investment. It is worthwhile. Best seating area is upstairs near the window. Recommend you get there early as there are queues out the door and down the... More

Went here on recommendaton and really enjoyed it. I got the "worlds best coffee" and that was great. I had the "fat rascal" scone too an it was really nice. The staff were friendly and professional. the only thing I didn't like was having to wait on the stairs, other than that I would definitely go again.

Came for breakf. Liked it so much came the next day too. Gorgeous Classic setting which must be hy it's so popular. Both days we walked straight in but by the time we were finishing our breakfast there were queues outside going down the street. The first day I commented to my companion how lovely it was that they didn't... More

Had to queue for a while but that showcases it popularity. There is a good range of options (not really for food allergens) but they were flexible in some of the choices. Lovely service and not rushed at all. It is a must to try if you are visiting York.

But that might have just been my fault :) It was very fancy, however, and I would go again, just possibly make a better choice.
