Betty's had been recommended to us by acquaintances we met at our hotel in London. After a day of walking through York, we hardly felt suitably dressed, but decided to stop in for dessert and tea. We had a short wait in line for a table, and struck up a conversation with two English ladies who assured us this was... More

Had a gorgeous little afternoon tea here. A fat rascal is not worth missing! It's dearer that costa or Starbucks! But it's classic York and a must see!!

The guide books advised that the queue on the stairs would go quickly, and it did. A lovely afternoon tea by an open window, our choice as the rooms are very warm, looking out at the heavy rain and the Minster. Good flavours in the sandwiches and a nice variety of cakes on the top tier. The only thing not... More

Had mid morning coffee and fabulous pastry at Betty's. Excellent coffee too. Lived up to expectations. Delightful, friendly and efficient staff. Bought coffee had it ground to take home too and some of their gifts for friends so special place for gifts.

Visited with friends who wanted to go to Betty's, found the small cafe / shop before we got to the larger tea rooms so queued here rather than there, anticipating that the queue would be longer. Uncomfortable wait on the stairs in the heat and humidity, we waited for about 40 minutes to be seated. Two of us selected Yorkshire... More

Have been to Bettys before but went to the larger tea room in the centre of the city. This time due to the queue we decided to go to the smaller original tea room. As you would expect there was a queue to enter the tea room but this is something you have to take into account when you decide... More

The long queue for a table here suggests it's well worth waiting for, it wasn't bad but not worth queuing 1/2hr for. Plain sandwiches (plain ham, no mustard or pickle, plain chicken, no mayonnaise, plain salmon), 3 small cakes, a scone which felt a bit hard, not light and fresh and a slightly stingy portion of jam and cream. We've... More

My husband and I were desperate for some food and drink whilst on a day trip to York and hadn't found anywhere so decided to nip into Betty's thinking that we could have a quick snack and be on our way again (we were tight for time). How wrong we were... It's small and poky and very poncy so don't... More

I loved having afternoon tea here but I will have to agree that it is overpriced. I would recommend a visit but maybe just for a special occasion.

Decided to try the tea rooms as the main cafe was rammed with a large queue. We walked straight in here which was lovely. Very friendly staff and delicious food (especially for French/Swiss visitors!). Luckily we were by an open window as the main room was very hot even to walk through! Def recommend and would revisit!
