We are not big tea drinkers, but felt the need to try the traditional English afternoon tea experience. Seated in the very pretty main room with mirrors and stain glass windows, the cute tables with tiered serving towers with bakery treats and finger sandwiches, traditional tea pots and cups made this a fun and memorable experience. The food and service... More

A tradition in Yorkshire, so you have to see it for yourself. This smaller one in Stonegate is more intimate and although there was a small queue, within about five minutes we were seated. Sadly their oven had packed up that day, so cold food only. The waiter was chatty, however the service was painfully slow. Cakes were deemed by... More

First visit to the one in York, as usual the service was excellent. Coffee and Eccles cake to their usual high standard.

We were fortunate that for mid week tea it was quite and we did not have to queue at all. Unfortunately the choice of cakes was restricted for some reason so we had to compromise. The tea was also very weak ( and this comes from someone who usually drinks decaf) I mentioned this to the waiter and he rectified... More

The food was great...the tea was better...the desserts were very tempting (even at breakfast). What I, as an American, consider the real English teahouse experience/taste. My mother really enjoyed the experience and the shop at the entrance.

You cant go to York without visiting Betty's Tea Rooms. There is always a queue to get in but it is worth the wait. We always choose the traditional afternoon tea where we received a stand with a selection of sandwiches such as fresh salmon and lovely thick ham there is also a scone with jam and clotted cream and... Fairly enjoyable experience, quite expensive however admittedly food was lovely. Unfortunately quite slow service but understandable as it is always very busy. Definately worth a visit as staff are friendly and the food and drinks are delicious.

This is much smaller than the main Bettys comprising a downstairs shop and an upstairs tearoom. The stairs are quite steep and also used as a queuing area during busy times. The menu is traditional Bettys , that is high quality , their own tea blends (They are part of Taylors of Harrogate) and probably more expensive than other tea... More

A day out in York could only take me and my 3 friends who hadn't eaten in Betty's before to treat ourselves. Unfortunately very disappointing. Two of us had the steak pie which was very tasty but some of the potatoes were hard and the meal really would have been nicer if it was hotter. My other friends both had... More
