Any visit to Whitby isn't complete for our family until we've been here and bought up a big pile of cakes and biscuits to bring home! Absolutely gorgeous traditional cakes and tea loaves etc, lovely traditional premises, like stepping back in time! We always buy the Brack, and an assortment of biscuits. The only criticism would be that you just... More

Its a bit jaded and faded - it could be excellent but isn't. the waitress couldn't advise on which tea to have as "I don't drink tea" - the tea menu is fantastic so either she is disinterested or the establishment hasn't trained her. The tea came in big teabags in the pot with an indelible marker on the bag... More

Always go to Bothams when we visit Whitby but unfortunately it let us down this time. Staff definitely in need of training in customer service skills, they're very efficient but rather brusque and unfriendly. I had a jacket potato which was a bit hard and the tuna was cold and tasteless, the salad (limp shredded lettuce, half a tomato, cucumber... More

Only visited Botham's on the morning of our departure & totally by default! We had been to a lovely deli just along from Botham's & acquired some home baked quiche to take back home when the assistant recommended a trip to Botham's to try some Brack? Never heard of the stuff before but by gosh, I will be heading straight... More

This is a must do experience when in Whitby. Great vintage feel to the dining room and we had the famous tea loaf (Yorkshire Brack and the Date and Spelt) both were delicious as was the Tregothnan Earl Grey that accompanied it. Also fantastic value for money, we will be back!

Locals liken this bakery to Betty's. As one who lived in Harrogate for many years, there is absolutely no comparison. The sandwiches at Botham's are very reasonable but the cakes are ordinary.

Sorry, Harrogateblades, but I don’t understand why you are comparing us? We have been bakers and had tea rooms here in Whitby for nearly 150 years. We don’t set ourselves up to be like anybody else - We do what we do, in our own way. Your “Poor” 2 star rating is puzzling and hurtful. Did we offend you? Your... More
