When you go to Whitby you have to visit the Magpie (for pudding)

It's a bit of an institution in the town, although there are fierce arguments about who does the best chips. You have to go to the Magpie (either for take-out or sit-in) So popular you may have to queue - for a long time in some cases. Even out of season. This was a dull weekend in February and... read more

Me and my fiancee came to Whitby for a weekend break and we had been told about this place, so upon us being requested to go we decided to give it a chance and we wasn't disappointed!! The food was amazing so fresh the fish was just pure white and taste was incredible. The only complaint I would have on... More

We went here today for fish and chips. Fish is fried to order so there's a wait of ten mins which is acceptable. Fish was small considering it was £5 and I have to say it wasn't that nice. The chips were quite average. Overall it was just ok. For the price I think there's probably nicer fish and chips... More

The take away is world famous and doesn't disappoint. Huge portions and great value. There was a long queue for a sit down meal which plenty of people were happy to do, but personally we enjoyed a seat by the water and the fresh air to accompany ours .

Happy that our friends introduced us to The Magpie Cafe and fortunate for us there was no line on a cold and blustery day in February! We got a table on the second floor (the views are limited even along the outside wall, but we didn't come for the view!). We ordered a variety of appetisers but we knew the... More

On our last visit to Whitby our favourite chippy was closed so we decided to try the Magpie take away. The fish and chips were swimming in grease, the batter was thick and heavy and although served in huge boxes, the portions were very small compared to what we are used to elsewhere. Don't understand what the fuss is about... More

A generous starter of Salmon Pate, Crab Pate and Aubergine Pate with garlic was wonderful. Caramalised Shallots and Hake on a mashed potatoes base sounded interesting and I was not disappointed. The House white was very acceptable. Service was timely and friendly. We took the special deal of two course plus tea for £15 ea. - well worth it! I... More
