I dropped in to the Magpie on a busy night recently without a reservation, and the staff were good enough to squeeze me in. And what a treat I was in for. I cynically thought the Magpie would be over-rated because it is so famous, but I was wrong. The food was outstanding; not just the fish, which was good,... More

After queuing for a considerable time to get fish and chips from the Magpie take-away I was very disappointed that it wasn't to the standard I was hoping for nor expecting. My fish was very wet, not flaky in the slightest, and tasted of nothing! I'm not sure what they could have done to get it like this but, it... More

Lovely food and worth the short wait we had outside to get in. Tables were a little too close together

Always wondered what the fuss was about, fish and chips are fish and chips! Wrong. Having now experienced Magpie would definitely go back again. We had the small fish, just as well. We also got there about 11.45 and just managed to get a table, 15 mins after opening, so if you want to try would recommend going early as... More

Visit the Magpie Cafe regularly and can honestly say, I've never had a bad meal in there. Not sure where the negative reviews are coming from, all I can say is best fish & chips by a mile. I am the type of person that if I got a bone in my fish, it would put me off eating the... More

Superb visit ! I am so glad that we only had the small haddock! portions very generous, batter to die for and an impressive wine list - we were only in Whitby for a day but if we stayed longer would definitely go for a five course and try the oysters as they are our favourites. Lovely staff very attentive... More

Used to be the best fish and chips in east yorks, after waiting over half an hour to get served we were v.disappointed. You could do better elsewhere. Get your act together Magpie Cafe.
