On a day trip to Whitby I had the pleasure of gf fish and chips, with the option of white wine vinegar. The staff know their stuff - which is an added bonus. I didn't feel like an alien asking for food, I actually felt normal. First time in many years that I've had fish n chips beside the seaside,... More

We have been to Whitby a few times but had never visited Magpie Cafe because we didn't want to wait in a queue! However, on a family visit to Whitby last week, we were walking past in the late afternoon, there was no queue and we were hungry. We didn't really know what to expect and were unsure if it... More

We have tried other fish and chips in Whitby but the Magpie in my opinion is the best. You do have to queue and it may not be the cheapest but you get what you pay for, which is certainly worth it, the staff and service are excellent.

There's nowhere like this place; it even surpasses Harry Ramsden in its pomp some years back. You join the queue outside (fortunately it wasn't raining - much) and then achieve the privilege of being admitted to the porch, one group at a time. From there, you can begin to salivate as the gigantic plates of fish and chips pass by... More

I have come here so often I now feel like a friend. They never fail to deliver and thus time for the first time in many years I actually had plain old fish and Chios and boy were they good. I even managed a chip butty, but left the mushy peas to my friend and her granddaughter. We left nothing!... More

On our visit to Whitby yesterday we took a friend, who believe it or not had never been. All the way there in the car we had told her about the fish & chips at the world famous magpie. Of course on arrival we just had to go visit, and opted for lunch from the take away part. OMG what... More

My daughter and I visited Whitby recently and decided to have lunch at the famous "Magpie Café". What a wonderful experience it was, we queued for about 20 minutes but it was well worth the wait. The staff were excellent, very helpful and pleasant. The fish and chips were divine, the batter was delicious and the fish was the best... More

The magpie boasts that Rick Stein said it was the best fish and chip restuarant in England, and quite agree with him.The starting price is £9-99,but well worth the price

Went here following the hype and having observed the queues. We went the the take away next to the cafe. Waited for the fish to be cooked fresh so had high hopes. The staff were talking amongst themselves this made the wait a long time. I have to say that there was nothing wrong with the fish and chips but... More
