Had to queue for lunch but well worth it the best fish and chips. This place never stops but the service is always good and staff very pleasant.

A dear friend strongly recommended us to try The Magpie Cafe. Some queue, but in only twenty minutes (we were lucky!) we were able to sit at our table. (The best solution is to reserve in advance and to sit at the second floor, which is nicer and wider... and apparently more heated if it's cold outside). We ordered fish... More

We visited on a Saturday night in a group of 26 and the lovely head waitress took it in her stride and hardly broke into a sweat with all the starters and mains coming out together and even stopping to play camera women. The shellfish was to die for and the portions very large. Great chips. The only negative comment... More

Visited loads of times and the food is always fantastic.Visited Sunday 7th september for tea, only a small waiting time, then we were shown to a table upstairs but around a corner with no view. We asked to be moved and were quickly given a table opposite the window with a wonderful view of the Abbey. We had a starter, but with hindsight... More

We booked (so glad we did) there was a queue at the steps into the place at 1910 so we walked in and were seated in 15 minutes just before our booked time of 1930, The service was excellent and the food was just wonderful, highly recommended

Positives - We were seated quickly and didn't have to queue outside in the rain. There is gluten free food on offer. The cost of the food is about what you would expect for a famous restaurant/cafe. If you get a window seat, there is a great view of the harbour area. Negatives - The batter on our gluten free... More

We live in Yorkshire and heard about this Fish Restaurant a while ago. This week we finally got to revisit Whitby and, this time, include The Magpie in our visit. Also have to say that finding parking is no longer a problem as they have, just last week, opened a Park & Ride facility. We built up a healthy appetite... More

It hardly seems worth writing a review for his place as there are some many good ones already, but we had a lovely meal and really did enjoy visiting this restaurant. We reserved a table (they do take some evening reservations) to avoid the queue, but as it was September the queue didn't look too bad anyway. This restaurant has... More

queing for food is always a good sign and we were not let down after waiting nearly half an hour to get a table.I had an exceptional seafood hotpot and my partner had haddock and salmon gratin but was dissappointed in this dish which contained very little fish.Overall though it was a decent experience and we would return again in... I like the fact that this is not just a cod and chips place. There is lots of choice. I chose to have Plaice and my husband ordered Hake. All beautifully cooked, plentiful and delicious. We sat downstairs but hadn't realised that the better views are from the tables upstairs. Quite expensive at about £25.00 for the two of us,... More
