We dropped by about 11am to book a table for the same evening and got informed that they don't take more than a couple of bookings a day but got told to return around tea time with a likely 'short wait'. Arriving at 6:10 we didn't get seated until 6:55 while queuing outside. The staff were friendly however served a... More

Great place for seafood and fish and chips! I liked the fact they had a tv which said which fish they had in stock, I recommend booking in advance to get in here, we did, but there was a big que outside waiting. Disabled access was pretty good too, there is a lift which is accessed via the next door... More

Great food, great service. Just make sure you work up an appetite before going here as portions are large.

Decided to go back to the Magpie for lunch after a gap of several years and we didn't even have to queue! We knew we'd made the right decision when we tasted the lobster crostini - absolutely amazing. We also had the fish medley, again delicious with a good variety of fish and shellfish, samphire as the vegetable and a... More

Each time we have a ride to Whitby on the motorbike, The Magpie is the only place we go to eat. The staff are super friendly and welcoming, very helpful and attentive. The food is amazing - the selection is fantastic, with not only seafood and fish but vegetarian and meat dishes available. As a vegetarian, I always have the... More

The wait wasn't to long. We were in quite quick. Pleasing for a bank holiday. We sat with our menus ready for a drink, and waited....and waited. Orders taken and dinner turns up. Adults and children's food was superb. Couldn't fault it. But then again had to wait for the sweet and the bill. We eventually managed to get a... More

I can't join the argument on where the best Fish & Chips are as I've not done them all. If there are any better than The Magpie they must be superb. Like everyone, had to queue outside but though it seemed long in length we were seated within 15 mins. Table management and service was slick and the staff friendly.... More

We had to queue for about 20 minutes for lunch, but once we were close to the entrance a member of staff was checking how many people were in each group. This meant that they had appropriate tables ready by the time we were admitted - no need to wait for the tables to be cleared after previous diners. An... More
