Excellent food

I remembered having heard on a tv program in China (!) that the Magpie was THE place to go to eat fish and chips in the UK and they were quite correct! My partner decided to start with their mussels in garlic and white wine which was a good move as they arrived perfectly cooked and delicious. We... read more

Prices slightly higher than other fish and chip restaurants. Myself and my Partner were seated in the upstairs part as it was packed downstairs. Only drawback is the tables are extremely close to each other they could do with rearranging the them so you don't feel you're sat on top of people. Food is excellent. Overall lovely venue.

Nothing beats fish and chips in Whitby and this is the best place to get them from! Reasonable prices, great food - at busy times be prepared to que, it's worth the wait though!! Our favourite place for Fish and Chips!

This was my first stop for fish & chips in Whitby ( went to 3 in total) It was mid afternoon on Sunday but still a short 5 minute wait. The decor and staff is friendly and welcoming. There was quite an extensive menu. The service is very efficient as it is done on a hand held machine that the waitress... More

So I heard that this is one of the best places to get fish and chip in Whitby. It was definitely good but I wouldn't say the best I've ever had. The portion was huge though! I ate this for lunch and was full till dinner time! The waitress that served us was really nice, patient and friendly considering there... More

Having been to whitby many times took my mum for her birthday over the weekend - we decided on fish and chips and having avoided in the past due to the queues decided to visit the Magpie. Firstly we were squashed on to a table for 2 - there were 3 of us - in an extremely cramped area of... More

Even before we booked for Whitby we were recommended to try this place. We managed to get a seat in the restaurant which was packed full. Well worth it. Staff couldn't do enough to help and advise on the portions sizes. Cod and chips small and scampi ordered. First class. Could not fault.

Everybody from Fodor and Frommer to the Hairy Bikers and the beloved (ha,ha) Jeremy Clarkson says the Magpie serves the best fish and chips in England. Since I've only tried four versions, I don't know about that -- but they do use superior, perfectly fresh fish and employ cooks who know how to handle a fryer. My husband and I... More

I was really looking forward to fish and chips at the Magpie. Originally from the UK and now living in Canada I was craving that fresh taste that I had only previously experienced in Yorkshire. Unfortunately, it was very crowded, and the food was average quality and expensive. I have a feeling they are resting on their laurels. Would look... More
