Seven of us (4 adults, 3 teenagers) visited for a lunch for a family birthday. Made really welcome. Had 4 haddock, 1 mussels, 1 kids chicken and a cod. Meal was lovely and plentiful. Really attentive staff. Although we weren't staying for pudding they still even brought out a cup cake with a candle and sang ( along with some... More

Called in on off chance and we were luckily accommodated. Very busy even though was midweek in February. It has a worldwide reputation and not difficult to see why. Never eaten fish as fresh.

***** IF YOU WANT TO EAT HERE ARRIVE EARLY ***** This restaurant is extremely popular and unless you arrive for lunch early you may find yourself queueing outside. The reason for this is down to the choice of food and the quality. It's definitely worth the wait. Recently visited The Magpie and the food is always so tasty and considering... More

We have visited many restaurants in Whitby over the years but always enjoy returning to the Magpie. The food was excellent in quantity and quality and the friendliness and efficiency of the waitress was exemplary. I felt a bit guilty having the steak on this occasion instead of a fish dish but it was cooked to perfection.

I first visited the Magpie Cafe four years ago and only because my visitors to Whitby, who had heard of its reputation, were keen to try it. (On principle I'm not a fan of queuing outside an establishment in the cold for hours when I dine out.) At the time, I was pleasantly surprised by the food and the ambience... More

Only ever been once after seeing this restaurant on TV. The best fish and chips we have ever had, not cheap but worth paying extra

The Magpie staff are always welcoming and will give good advice if asked. Like you don't need two portions of mushy peas for two, one is sufficient. Also you don't need a large haddock the regular is as big as a special anywhere else. The fish is consistently perfectly cooked you won't be disappointed. It's my favourite cafe of all... More

The only place to go for fish and chips in Whitby. Great food, quite a variety of options on the menu but we opted for the usual. Arriving mid afternoon on a Sunday we were quickly seated on the 3rd floor. Friendly and efficient staff.
