Get there early otherwise you will have to queue but don't just walk away as it is well worth the wait and the queue does move fairly quickly. We had the small haddock and chips but they will do boiled or mashed potatoes if you ask. The fish was fresh and tasty and the batter - excellent. We shared a... More

Our first ever visit to The Magpie was some thirty years ago, when our son sat in a high chair and played with books and toys they used to keep in a box for children. Since then we have visited countless times, with our son and daughter, our parents and other relatives and as a couple. Last Saturday evening we... More

I decided to write this review after going to scarbrough and having the worst fish and chips motivated me to write this review as , I didnt realise how lucky and how good the Magpie really is. We ordered mrs radfords honey roast ham for the mrs and I ordered the small haddock, The Ham , came with 5 different... More

Very pleasant staff. Very ordinary cod and chips. Very high prices. Very disappointed. Very over rated in my opinion.

Visited Magpie Takeaway 14/6/13. Purchased 2 portions of cod and chips at £6.65 each. The fish portion was very small, tasteless and overcooked. The chips were undercooked. I've had far better for half the price. The Magpies reputation is far better than the food it serves. I would suggest you visit any of the other takeaways in Whitby.

We have visited the magpie several times, and my advice is be adventurous and leave the battered fish and chips on the menu, and try one of the other dishes. I had the chowder to start- excellent and the lobster/prawn/salmon gratin, delicious. Huge portions for which the magpie is famous, and attentive staff. We go during the week off peak... More

We have just spent a week in Whitby. On the first evening, Saturday, we wandered down the town and the queue outside this restaurant was huge. Then when we were talking to a local they said we had to do two things whilst we were there, eat fish & chips at the Magpie Café & try Yorkshire curd tart. We... More

Served from takeaway section. I Have dined in the restaurant before and have not been disappointed with the fish advertised as Cod but last weekend's fish served was nothing in comparison and was extremely disappointed. The Cod (or fish) did not have the meaty texture I have been brought up on all my life and felt I had been sold... More

The Magpie provides all sorts of excellent fish dishes, from fish and chips, through to things thoroughly more exotic. I have had better haddock in other places, but not often. You need to book to get a table, often before the day you want it, but the food is worth it. The service is outstanding too. They helped keep our... More
