The staff were very friendly and efficient, the restaurant very nice and clean. We had the regular Haddock and chips which were fresh and well cooked, whilst I most definitely have no complaints I did not think they were anything amazing though, and they are expensive, usually restaurant fish and chips in Yorkshire include peas, tea bread and butter, these... Fish and chips were made after you ordered. Fresh and roasting. Ate the lot. Would thoroughly recommend.

We had 3 weeks in England and Scotland, ate at many fine restaurants, and this was by far my favorite. Yes, there's a line and there's a reason for the line.

Just been to The Magpie Cafe and had a 2 course meal. We had prawn cocktail fir starters, lovely and good size portion. Then out came the main course of haddock and prawns in creamy leak sauce with chips. Very filling, tasty, the haddock dissolved when you put it in your mouth. Staff are very friendly and chatty. Ai highly... More

This is the second time we have dined here and may I add NOT for fish and chips as this is a very good seafood restaurant, however, we ate at night and we were dissapointed that it still retains its cafe atmosphere rather than an intimate venue for an evening meal. I think there should be a watershed for children... More

The fish and chips are probably the best in the UK, the staff are very good and friendly.Often the wait to get in can be quite lengthy.

Spent a wonderful Halloween in Whitby viewing the vast array of costumed people parading the town. We finished the day with another great meal at The Magpie. The best place for fish and chips without a doubt ! Be prepared to queue as this is a very popular place. We were lucky to get a table upstairs with a great... More

We enjoyed an evening meal at the Magpie cafe, I had lovely battered hake, the lightest batter ever and the fish so fresh, my husband had the halibut, a bit dry. Very disappointed with the chips, they were pale and limp, I expected perfectly fried, crispy on the outside and soft inside chips, instead we got these limp and pale... More

this place was buzzing! Saturday early evening, the place was packed out and people were queuing down the stairs. They managed to get us seated in about 20 minutes I guess. We were upstairs and it was hot. However, the haddock chips & mushy peas were perfectly cooked. Nice beer too (Farmers Blonde?) My oysters were the only let down.... More
