Went to this place a while ago, an absolute joke! ordered a steak pie , arrived half frozen. wife had jacket potatoes with cheese, was just an uncut potatoe on a plate with a pile of cheese next to it, no side salad or anything. unfriendly staff stood around talking near the counter, not asking if... read more

Lunchtime. When we arrived there was a party of 4 waiting for their meals, but no other customers. The waiter was friendly, took our order and promptly returned with bread & butter and a pot of tea. It then took 20 minutes (we timed it) before the meals arrived. The waiter apologised for the delay but offered no explanation -... More

A late lunchtime on a grey Friday immensely improved by some of the best cod and chips we've ever had, at a very reasonable price. A special well done to the young men serving who give the lie to the stereotype - they were chatty, quick and helpful and lovely. One gripe...those tiny sachets of sauce are a pig to... More

Popped into Gatsby's while on a weekend away for our Anniversary and decided to call in for a bite to eat. We ordered a small cod and chips. The decor was really nice and staff very friendly. TWe ordered the cod and chips which we found there was nothing to complain about. I would definatley go there again when I... More

We visit Whitby quite often and we usually go to the Quayside for Fish & Chips but we thought we'd give Gatsbys a go. Staff were great, decor good and clean. Food was rather hit and miss. They are not 'chippy chips'. The fish was absolutely swimming in vegetable oil. Not enjoyable

We went to Whitby August 24th. Whitby was very busy and everywhere there were queues for every fish and chip restaurant. We went about 15.45 and found Gatsby's. There was just one table emptyso luckily we grabbed it. The fish and chips were absolutely beautiful.Highly reccommend them here and the staff were so nice. The fish is cooked to order... More

So during our week long stay in Whitby we popped in here, from the outside it looked ok. First of all the service was slow to be honest, they weren't exactly busy but it felt a long time getting served. The better half and our girls had panninis - one was ok (ham and cheese) the tuna one was a... More

My wife and I visited mid-morning. Enjoyed an excellent pot of tea and toasted tea cakes. Prompt service. All staff helpful and polite. Would like to visit again to try a more substantial meal.

Had cod and chips, had better had worse, friend had the soup they said it was vegetable but you couldn't say what vegetables were in it. Young man who served was pleasant enough and the place was clean. not much more I can say.
