Fantastic value for money and without a doubt the best pie I have ever had - ever! The atmosphere was lovely and cosy making it a perfect retreat from the winter weather. I couldn't manage to eat a full pie which I was devastated about as it tasted so good! We will be back!

Better be careful what i say here as the owner/manager rips into positive reviews! I'll be perfectly honest & say it was all very average. It would be better served with mushy peas rather than tinned garden peas & the pastry was very bland & dry. Filling was ok & the gravy I'd say granulated though i may be wrong.... More

No I am not going to 'tell you off' Your review is quite honest and i would rather deal with reviewers like you with valid points. The points you raise about mushy peas have been dealt with many times and they simply do not sell well enough to change too and i don't have room for both. The other stuff... More

Myself and my girlfriend came to Whitby on Sunday 18th jan for some scampi and then onto Teare woods tea shop but unfortunately both were closed so we wandered around and found this place purely by accident. We decided it looked so homely and inviting we'd give it a try. Wow, we were not disappointed. The food was very simple... More

Quick, cheap and cheerful and full of character what more could you want after a bracing walk on the coast. Great for doggies and their owners.

We are locals of Whitby but have never got round to trying the pie and mash shop, tonight decided to give it a go and I'm very glad we did. The waitress was very polite, and service quick. The pies were absolutely delicious!!!! As were the mash, peas and gravy. The mash was lovely and buttery. We asked for extra... More

This place is brilliant, the food is simple, yet hearty and delicious. I am a veggie and their pies are so tasty, they even have veggie gravy. We travel everywhere with our sweet dog Murray and he loves this place, and is always welcome. It's often busy, but worth the wait. Check out the book selection they have there, the... More

Been here twice now and for the life of me can't ask any more of the place. Yes it's small but the upstairs is available when the staff are, the food is hot and tasty and where else would you get it served in a tin plate? We were served a wrong pie but this was replaced immediately with no... More

Simple concept very well delivered. Small, warm and cosy, building very interesting historically. Serves a wide selection of pies, in light pastry ,excellent mash, peas and plenty of gravy. Our favourite choice for when we've just arrived for a winter weekend. Opens till 8pm, last customer no later than 7.40pm I was advised.

Dropped in today ~ was on a visit with college students and lovely staff ~ I wanted fish n chips at the Magpie, but it was closed. I came across this little, cute place with a good looking menu and lovely decorations. Hugely impressed ~ quickly served, great food and enthusiatic service. It's not big or clever, but good wholesome... More
