Great value lunch

This had been recommended to me by a colleague and I'm so glad we followed up on it! The room isn't huge and the tables are a bit on the cosy side but as it wasn't full when we visited we could spread out a bit. The décor and music have a 1940s theme (enamel plates, Camp Coffee, Vera Lynn).... read more

On a misty evening we really enjoyed the Homity Pie and meat pies. Mash was creamy and loved the touch of having food on an enamel plate. Good atmosphere, only one problem- dogs- I really didn't like having a wet and smelly dog in the room when I was eating, only negative in a very pleasant evening.

We were staying nearby in a big group (18 of us) and not many other places to accommodate us. I'm glad they couldn't as I don't think anywhere else would have been as good. We had the an upstairs room to ourselves. Service was quick and all 18 of us were served at the same time! Food was lovely and... More

Went to the Humble pie 'n' mash shop as part of my birthday weekend & I have to say we love this little place, all the pies are freshly baked on site daily, I recommend it to all my friends rather than the Magpie fish & chip emporium, which is over priced. Pie, freshly made mash & garden peas all... More

I visit here everytime I come to Whitby. Even if I don't eat in I get pies to takeaway and eat at home. They freeze well too. I recommend the sausage and black pudding. Full of filling. The restaurant itself is stuck in the 1940's and has the music from the time playing too. It doesn't look much but is... More

I've been visiting Whitby for years and never once have I been in this little place, so I thought it was time to pay a visit. They don't serve alcohol but you are invited to nip over the road to The Endeavour or bring your own. The pie and mash is served on enamel plates and we were even given... More

It was like stepping back into the 1940s, with the music, memorabilia, mugs, and enamel plates. The menu is simple, but they do the food so well. The pie was simply the best pie I've had in many a long year. The mash and gravy was delicious, and a nice touch was that we were asked after about 5 minutes... More

We stumbled across this place whilst scoping out a venue for dinner and so glad we did. The restaurant itself is small but like stepping back in time. Various Nik naks and antiques line the walls and shelving, period tableware as well as music from the 40s/50s made up what was a very pleasant cosy atmosphere. We both had pies... More
