This is a beautiful tea room in Whitby. The building is amazing, a warren of nooks and crannies that wind back from the street and are candlelit. Friendly service, excellent coffe, tea and huge, delicious cakes and sandwiches. The best cafe in Whitby.

My sons girlfriends first trip to Sherlocks

This place never fails to impress. My sons girlfriend was in awe at the Decoration & took lots of pics. Cheese & onion toasties arrived with a lovely finely shredded side salad & home made coleslaw. Hot chocolate came in a massive teacup with a generous helping of mini mallows on the side, your... read more

My first time in Whitby and was on my own due to my partner being there on business. I came across this café and the name and cakes in the window drew me in. I'm pleased to say I was lucky to get a table as it was busy and once I'd sat down there were lots of people turned... More

The food is average cafe fare, good, reasonably priced but uninspired. The atmosphere, however, is fantastic. The level of detail throughout the cafe is incredible and it really feels like walking around a film set on a Sherlock Holmes film complete with dark wallpaper, old books and Victorian pictures. A brilliant, brilliant piece of theming.

Stopped here for a creame tea at the recommendation of a nearby shop owner. The staff were very friendly, they even had biscuits for the dogs they allow customers to bring in. A lot of effort has gone in to creating the 19th century Sherlock Holmes era ambience. We both had cream teas which were very nice indeed.

3.5 The first time we came, they were closing, but the lady was very friendly and made a fuss of our dogs. The second time we came, was on a Saturday and it was very busy. We got a table fairly quickly, which was lucky. The coffee was good and the tea was average in quality. The atmosphere was wonderful,... More

We suspected that this might have been a dusty, old fashioned coffee shop when we first passed, but wandering back up the road decided to give it a try when we looked in the window again and a busy waitress smiled at us. It feels like a lot of work has gone into this cafe, and we are so glad... More

Sherlocks is as the name suggests a quaint coffee shop with lots of character. The coffee is very nice and even though we didn't eat lots of customers were commenting on the quality of the food. Great place if you have dogs as they are made most welcome. Highly recommend.

Afternoon tea lovely, such a fantastic atmosphere and good concept of Victorian study. Scones, cream, jam and coffee, fresh, well cooked scones and nice coffee. Be back.

We popped in here for lunch one day through passing, we were originally heading for Rusty Shears but got there to discover they were closed for two weeks staff holidays. We had the Cajun chicken ciabatta, which tasted fine, but really annoyed me that it wasn't actually a ciabatta but just a white roll which had too much butter on... More
