Beckett's is a small, family-run, dog-friendly coffee shop off the beaten track in lovely Skinner Street. We serve a small but ever-changing menu made from local ingredients where possible including delicious soups and 'beckanini' - which are large, soft and not gum-cloggingly dry. Our cakes are all sticky and home-made using real butter and free-range eggs (the rhubarb and custard cake is a favourite) and new this year are home-made cookies. The coffee is delicious and all Fairtrade.

Just Great

Welcoming and accommodating staff, lovely atmosphere and delicious, good quality food. Lots of books surround you as you sip fresh coffee and await your treat. Our only regret is that we didn't try the tasty looking cakes.

A very warm welcome for everyone including our Westie. It was very worthwhile hiking up the hill for the second time in the day to go for coffee. Wonderful coffee and an amazing selection of speciality tea. We weren't planning on cake but could resist the lemon and ginger cake to accompany the lemon and ginger tea. We will definitely... More

Being in Whitby and needing lunch we decided to try somewhere away from the crowds . There are many fish and chip restaurants in Whitby, and most tourists head for them, but away from the sea front, on Skinner street, is Beckett 's Coffee Shop. In my opinion this establishment is much better than any of the fish and chip... More

This is a genuine dog-friendly cafe. It's quite a small establishment, but they still welcomed our three, big dogs. The coffee was really good. We will be back to try the monster cakes! We also appreciated the advice on parking. Maybe next time, they may have some soya milk.

My husband and I spent a few days holiday in Whitby last November and were recommended by the Tourist Office to visit this lovely coffee shop. It was a very cold winter's day and this was the ideal venue for a delicious hot buttered teacake and a coffee. Very friendly atmosphere and well-behaved dogs really were welcome!

My girlfriend and I came to Beckett's for a quick coffee and a breather after a long journey to Whitby. What we actually ended up with was a basecamp for three days. Our regular trips amounted to several slices of fresh home-baked cake, exotic green/flavoured teas, crunchy fresh biscuits, recommendations on local spots to visit, sandwiches filled with local delicacies,... Lovely spot, staff always cheerful and friendly, with is very important to me. Food is always very tasty and they have the best Mocha drink I have ever tasted. They welcome dogs too which is handy if you are out with your hound. The tables are usually full of locals which says it all. They tend to close for most of... More
