An all male group of eight of us dropped in after a day's golf to have a pint and check out the menu as an alternative to our hotel's expensive but uninspiring offerings and I was immediately impressed by the pub's character and the friendly welcome from the bar staff. There was a good selection of real ales on offer... More

Situated in the historic tombland area of the city in the shadow of the cathedral the pub is well worth a visit but the food is a little pricey and only average fare.

Popped in for lunch as was on business nearby with my wife and so pleased that I did. Great welcome and service and the quality of the food was exceptional. Prices very reasonable and great pub atmosphere. I shall definately visit again the next time i am in Norwich Many Thanks

First visit. Felt comfortable as we walked in. Had reserved a table. Only negative aspect of the whole visit was the hard, no cushioned wooden seats (tough on old bones after an hour plus). But on to the meals, Absolute thumbs up for the pork belly and the steak & ale pie (extra gravy, plenty of veg). Relaxed, no rush... More

It wasn't only about the wonderful beer. I also enjoyed the environment of this old, traditional pub and my chat with the friendly barman, and the eccentric names borne by a variety of beers and breweries: Woodforde's, Humpty Dumpty, Little Sharpie, Southwold bitter, Lacons encore. I wholeheartedly recommend that you visit too.

Had a lovely meal, i think our entire party of 20 all enjoyed our various dishes. Extensive menu but a bit limited choices of desert.. quite a lot of chocolatey stuff. My hake and butter bean dish was delicious.the friendly and efficient service was noteworthy.we had lots of attention .. Taking orders for drinks, bringing water etc and although there were... More

This pub is quite handy for the local courts and maybe the chef needs locking up! I had a curry Panini which was tasteless tinned goo. Very disappointed as the staff were friendly and they have a good selection of real ales , nice décor and a splattering of interesting locals

A lovely place to have a meal. It was a little bit cool outside so we ate inside. Very friendly & efficient staff.

This traditional pub is located near the cathedrale. It serves a lot of ales and lagers. Very friendly service. It is next to the magistrate court (hence the wig & pen?). We had dinner there with typical pub food (beef and ale pie). Simple home cooking yet delicious. Nice dessert (crumble). If you are interested in good pub food, this... More

If I'm completely honest, this place is distinctly average... It's really hard to pick out any distinguishing features about the place that either sell it to me, or put me off going. Given how hard it can be to find good quality pub grub, I still go back fairly regularly, but it's not a place that you'd swap away from... More
