Gordon's a large wine bar located right behind Charing Cross station. They have a large outdoor area with plenty of tables and while the interior is small, it still boasts a lot of seating. If possible, find a table in the back in the "cave" section and enjoy a bottle of wine while you feel the Tube trains rumbling below... More

First timers need a bit of luck and wide-open eyes to spot the dubious-looking ways into Gordon's Wine Bar. It's alongside Charing Cross Station, and seems hell bent on putting off customers. But once you get inside (and hopefully find a seat) it is a top experience in the capital with wines to match. Never mind the food: it's eatable,... More

Despite walking past this place hundreds of times in my life, it took a friend who now lives in KL to take me to this great character-full venue. Having lunch and a glass of red in this low-ceilinged ex-cellar really has the feel of history and I'll definitely be going back, especially with any out of town friends! Good food... More

This is my favourite place to take out-of-towners for a quirky London drink. Inside is very unusual - vaults and candles and port by the beaker, while outside is a great place to natter away a summer's evening, and either way you end up with a night that will probably go much longer than you expected! Add in a very... More

We visited Gordon's bar to see how quirky it is a what all the fuss is about. The interior was warm muggy and looked amazing as we ordered our wine from a very busy bar. The barmaid was perfunctory (not warm or welcoming in any way) and we drank our wine outside in the cold for the privilege of £11.... More

Such an unusual location and atmosphere even if there is no view or music. The wine and food and candlelight are an experience in themselves. Not a place if you get claustrophobic though. Every now and then you can feel a train going overhead but definitely a must see tourist attraction. Looking forward to visiting again.

A great little place in a great location. Can feel a bit stuffy and overcrowded at times, due to the fact that it is underground in a cellar and everyone in London goes there it seems. But generally really nice.

In all of my years in London, I never knew this place existed! One of the first of the warm spring days in May and I found myself in the Embankment Gardens, waiting for eldest Son to arrive on the tube. He suggested that as I was there early, to walk across the gardens and wait in the outside area... More

Has to be one of my all time favourites in London. The best place to have wine in London. Atmosphere and decor unrivaled. Food is rather tapas style and great for lighter bites and cheese etc, always fresh bread (although food is limited at certain times) Always hard to find a seat, but weather permitting the garden is always buzzy.... Stopped here for lunch. The restaurant consists of a couple of basement rooms, really a pub-like dive that only serves wine and food, and a line of tables about a block long on the walkway outside. Most of the food is cafeteria style except for steak and burger sandwiches which are grilled when ordered. You order the food at the... More
