Stability in an ever-changing London scene

I first visited Gordon's when I lived in Surrey 30 years ago and I became a regular customer on my frequent business trips into London. I moved to Scotland 24 years ago and recently I met up with an old friend for lunch and a bottle of wine. This was my first visit in many years and apart from... read more

Visited Gordon's tonight after a 5 year hiatus. My friend and I arrived just after 5pm in the hope of finding a table but the place was heaving. We opted for a room inside and after 10 minutes found 2 seats in a communal table in the caves area. Yes. This is a wine bar with a difference. Popular music,... More

If you love wine you already know that cheese is one of the best friend! I've been here just for cheese and wine and I will be back for sure. The atmosphere is just great with a good wine list and a decent list of cheeses to choose from. Be aware that if you don't like cheese there's also other... More

What’s your image of a wine bar? Youngsters dressed for a night out and drinking too much prosecco? Well, Gordon’s is the polar opposite of that. It’s old, not particularly posh and is mostly housed in a cellar where you can feel every tube train rattle past. In fact, it claims to be London’s oldest wine bar. You enter from... More

Always reliable for good quality food - both hot and cold. Great selection of wines, sherries, etc., with knowledgeable staff, all be they somewhat unsmiling. Great venue under Villers Street road with its cavernous, candlelit ,brick arched interior. You'll be going back time after time!

This unique place is just a few steps from the tube entrance. We ended up there for an after dinner drink so we were not hungry but the cheese & charcuteries bar and salad bar looked amazing. Good wine selection, both by the glass and by the bottle. Outstanding decor and atmosphere. Can't wait to return...

An amazing spot whether you are inside the dark caverns or out in the garden. Wonderful historic atmosphere.... A great choice any time of year. If you are imbibing outside make sure you check out the caves! By the glass or the bottle... Cheers!

Shared a beautiful bottle of Shirz with a mouth watering cheese board and some rustic baguettes. The perfect summers evening! Yes you will queue and on my visit, a fellow patron spilled a glass of red on my feet and we struggled to find a spot to sit outside but it is all worth it and part of the experience.... More

We went on a weekday around 3pm in March when it wasn't great weather out, but it was still rammed and all the outside tables were taken. Inside was completely choca and it was hard to move and get to the bar. It is my only complaint, this place is a victim of its own success! We were still served... More

Staying in Trafalgar Square / Embankment

Neighborhood Profile
Trafalgar Square / Embankment
With its iconic Nelson’s Column, majestic oversized lions and brightly-lit fountains, Trafalgar Square is not just considered the heart of this bustling London hub, but the very core of the city itself. Beyond this esteemed gathering place are more famous icons, as well as a disproportionate numbers of the city’s most popular cultural attractions including the National Gallery and many West End theaters. Along the way to these major sites are quiet lanes and antiquated pubs to discover, as well as riverside vistas to enjoy on the embankment. With a calendar full of celebratory events, any time of year is a fine time to visit.
