I took my daughter and her friend here for lunch one Sunday. We loved the look of the place but the food was so disappointing .......less than mediocre. Main complaint was my chicken had been flavoured with what had to be (or anyway tasted like) commercial BBQ sauce - very uninspiring and not what it was called on the menu.... More

A nice change from all of the chains. Good pub, very welcoming staff and good service. Very close to kings cross but off main drag

There are lots of great pubs along the river. Unfortunately, The Black Lion is somewhat ruined by the slightly rude service offered by the New Zealander chap who runs the place. The food was quite slow coming out of the kitchen and his attitude was along the lines of "Relax. Why are you in such a rush?" We found his... More

This is one of those unique London pubs that you want to find but rarely do - staff with personality and amazing service, THE best food (not typical pub fare) and an amazing wine list! Even while extremely (!) busy the staff were so down to earth and attentive, they couldn't do more to please and as a result we... More

as a single voice amongst 10m Londoner's my voice may not count for much, but at least its an honest voice! This is an honest pub, with fabulous staff, a very friendly atmosphere and food as good as you'll find anywhere else in the area. Its a unique pub which is difficult to find in mass market London. Remember, you're... More

I never do these reviews but I just ate the worst meal I've had in my 5 years in London- frozen baton bread, soggy deep-fried tapas, tinned anchovy on plain french stick and inedible plain firey peppers. Nice beer but £30 I'd rather have put directly into the toilet. Avoid.

It was pretty empty when we visited this pub on Sunday. We were given a menu showing the Sunday roasts and a few other mains. When it was time to order we were then informed that the roasts were finished for the day. No apology given. The menu is very limited with no healthy options. The steak is very overpriced... More

I went to the Black Lion twice to have lunch on a sunny day. They have a lot of outdoor seating and it is not too difficult to get a table outside, unlike the neighbouring pubs, as it is not directly by the river. Food there was fine both times but I had a same issue both times-crackling. The first... More

We have been coming to this pub for the past 4 and a half years and it is one of our favourites! Over that time it has been transformed into a great local - lively during the week and occasionally raucous (in a good way!) at the weekends. The staff remain cool under pressure and are consistently pleasant and cheerful.... More

The Black Lion sits at either the beginning or end of a string of riverside pubs, depending on where you're coming from. It's easily the best of the bunch - I had a pint of Pride while my friends ordered a bottle of delicious red from the surprisingly excellent wine list. The drinks were so good we stayed for food,...
