Eat and/or drink at a Boat-Race grand-stand

A riverside pub/restaurant with many years of consistently high standards of food and a fine range of wines and beers. Busy especially at the week-end and very especially so on Boat-Race Day. Great atmosphere, great ales, great customer service, and best yet, great location next to the river. They also have a great garden with amazing music and events! A must go if you're ever in the Hammersmith area!

I have been to this pub a few times on different occasions, but the past two times I have been I have been very pleasantly surprised at how great it has become. Especially living so close! The staff are very efficient and polite and the food was great! It was an unbelievably busy day when I last went too (boat... More

What a comforting site the Black Lion was on entry. Big smiles and welcome when me and my friends arrived. And served immediately at what seemed a busy bar. I was served by quite a character behind the bar who I think was called Matt. The first pub on the crawl which actually recommended something off the wine list. We... More

This is the best pub along this stretch of the Thames beyond doubt. Friendly young manager and other staff very pleasant and efficient on a very busy Sunday. Excellent roast and fish and chips enjoyed with two pints of Pride within a stones throw of the brewery. Highly recommended.

Worst pub lunch in the last 6 years. Waited 1hr to get our food. The roast is ridicolous, small, bad looking and arrived cold. The fish and chips greasy and the fries without any kind of flavour. Terrible unprofessional staff. I couldn't believe it was even quite expensive.

Delicious fresh food such as the sweet potato/gets burger (vegetarian) with avocado on it was amazing. Of course you can still indulge in the best chips ever. Also recommend the crispy pork belly which was cooked perfectly. We probably went overboard with the cheese plate and port for dessert but it was SO worth it!

Certainly not bad, but nothing special neighborhood pub food, you have been to places like this hundreds of times in London. We got very attentive service, food came fairly fast, and it was OK. Very near the Thames River in an area off the Hogarth Roundabout. I would not make an effort to come here but might visit if I... More
