This is one of those unique London pubs that you want to find but rarely do - staff with personality and amazing service, THE best food (not typical pub fare) and an amazing wine list! Even while extremely (!) busy the staff were so down to earth and attentive, they couldn't do more to please and as a result we... More

as a single voice amongst 10m Londoner's my voice may not count for much, but at least its an honest voice! This is an honest pub, with fabulous staff, a very friendly atmosphere and food as good as you'll find anywhere else in the area. Its a unique pub which is difficult to find in mass market London. Remember, you're... More

I never do these reviews but I just ate the worst meal I've had in my 5 years in London- frozen baton bread, soggy deep-fried tapas, tinned anchovy on plain french stick and inedible plain firey peppers. Nice beer but £30 I'd rather have put directly into the toilet. Avoid.

It was pretty empty when we visited this pub on Sunday. We were given a menu showing the Sunday roasts and a few other mains. When it was time to order we were then informed that the roasts were finished for the day. No apology given. The menu is very limited with no healthy options. The steak is very overpriced... More

I went to the Black Lion twice to have lunch on a sunny day. They have a lot of outdoor seating and it is not too difficult to get a table outside, unlike the neighbouring pubs, as it is not directly by the river. Food there was fine both times but I had a same issue both times-crackling. The first... More

We have been coming to this pub for the past 4 and a half years and it is one of our favourites! Over that time it has been transformed into a great local - lively during the week and occasionally raucous (in a good way!) at the weekends. The staff remain cool under pressure and are consistently pleasant and cheerful.... More

The Black Lion sits at either the beginning or end of a string of riverside pubs, depending on where you're coming from. It's easily the best of the bunch - I had a pint of Pride while my friends ordered a bottle of delicious red from the surprisingly excellent wine list. The drinks were so good we stayed for food,... I have been a regular here for over 3 years and I must admit buzz (boss) runs a good ship, at the end of the day. His food is always of the highest standard and he's not bad at looking after "English Ales" for a kiwi. I will admit on sunny weekends it is best to book as the hordes... More

This afternoon was the first really hot Sunday this year, and everyone was out. It was forecast that way, with people discussing their weekend plans to get out in the sunshine for days prior to - so it was no surprise to anyone that crowds were out, except perhaps to The Black Lion's management and staff. The location's great, and... More

I've had a few delicious meals here and the rest have been nice. There's a good wine list. But it's all expensive for what it is, especially on the nights the bar staff make it clear that customers are a tiresome interruption. Some lovely evenings here, others when I've walked in and then walked straight out again. Also, they sometimes... More
