Been coming here for the past 7 years but never got round to writing about it. Food is great, service is relaxed and friendly,as are the owners. Half way between a quality caf and a greasy spoon, and the milkshakes are amazing. I hope that the prices don't go up because of the gentrifying-types coming here now, as so far... More

This cafe offers a fairly broad menu but the all day breakfast for a fiver is great. The egg was delivered exactly as ordered and service was prompt and efficient. Others with me had a burger and omelette and all were satisfied. It seats about 50, including diner-style booths, and I understand gets very busy at lunch time and weekends... More

nothing quite like a Mess breakfast. Well known locally. Well worth a drop in for a reasonably healthy fry up. If ever there was one. Doesn't seem t be much grease left on my plate after!

The day I queue to eat in what is essentially a greasy spoon is the day Hell freezes over. The food is generic, if it's busy you will have to share your booth with complete strangers and the decor etc is nothing special. There are a dime a dozen places like this in Hackney, but as it became a place... More

This Cafe is well noted within Hackney, it's so popular that you sometimes have to wait to get a seat; the portions are large and the specials are fantastic and food never taste greasy. The staff are always smiling and upbeat; inside is always clean and prices are average.

So on a Saturday morning a friend said let's got o Mess Cafe...... I was a bit skeptical with the name but boy was I wrong! I have lived in Hackney for donkeys and have passed this place 100,000 times but never stepped inside..... It was packed with all sorts and not a builder in sight... Couples, families, hipsters and... More

I have been to mess cafe 4 times now. I normally go at lunch time with friends. The food is delicious. I have had something different every time and the standard is always high. I would recommend this place. Go try it.

I moved out of Hackney two years ago and still miss this cafe! The food is of an excellent standard, consistently good, and, given the quality ingredients, great value. The service is quick and aware. I seem to remember queues spilling out of the doors which speaks for itself. Definitely the best place for breakfast in Hackney.

The popularity of Mess can be measured by the fact that there are two other cafes on the same road, both of which will be empty while there is a queue out the door at Mess ( get here before 11am at the weekend if you don't want to queue). I go here at least twice a month for either... More
