Food Excellent, Service a bit so-so

Small but bustling with atmosphere, the food lived up to expectations. Crispy Prawns for starters and a spicy beef chilli and cumin plus fried aubergine. Vietnamese beer was good to wash it down with also. Alltogether very tasty though arrived in a somewhat ad-hoc fashion rather than as courses... read more

Unfortunately the food was bland, late and the service poor. The team of waitresses were quick to seat new customers but oblivious of us - it appeared as though they were all new to the job. Head waiter was chirpy, but the experience as a whole was very disappointing.

Second time in green papaya. Enjoyed our meal the first time but yesterday felt pretty depressed in front of our plates. Sweet and sour aubergines in stripes from the popular menu came served as fried chips with the sweet sauce to dip them in. could have gone to MacDonalds. Then we had slow cooked pork belly which mostly contained bits... More

I came to this restaurant with my husband to enjoy our meal on our off day, and we are in hospitality businesses ourselves, we know how much pressure the staff can be under, even though the restaurant wasnt busy at all, we ordered drinks and our soft drinks arrived but our hot sake didnt and after a while we asked... Its a nice big place with really good service. The food was pretty good and in line expectations. The vietnamese beer is pretty good as well. the service was very prompt and the food tasted very fresh.

We ate at this restaurant with friends from the area and I was quite pleased with it. First time for my wife and I to eat Vietnamese food and we really enjoyed ourselves. The prices were very reasonable and the food was fabulous. The proprietor, Wyn, was very helpful in helping us order a good sampling of the food. I... More

One of our favourite restaurants for good Vietnamese food. Great location in hackney amidst a lot of choice for great vietnamese food. Visited last week and enjoyed the food but not quite as much as previously. Now got more of a trendy bar buzz which will attract the clientele they want but we preffered the old style, but you cannot... More

I've been here a few times over the years & its our favourite Vietnamese in the area. The food is always fresh and tasty. Soft shell crab and salt/pepper squid had a lovely, light batter- not greasy or heavy at all. One of the noodle dishes was too salty for me, but everyone else thought it was fine. Attentive service.... More

Visited here before a trip to the Hackney Empire to see a surprisingly excellent Lenny Henry in "Rudy's Rare Records". Anyway we had prawns with ginger and garlic, chicken with lemongrass, egg fried rice, and a large plate of special noodles - all delicious and under £30.

Really authentic Vietnamese kitchen with really affordable price list. Staff is looking after you as soon you come in, advice to call earlier to book a table, it's always fully booked, but it will not take a long time until you find a table if you are coming with no booking. The menu is still the same from years ago,... More
