We went to the National Portrait Gallery for an exhibition and decided to have high tea at the restaurant. Booking online was very easy. The service was polite and professional. When tea arrived, we decided not to have dinner that night: the tray was gigantic, and there were lots and lots of sweet and savoury treats. Quality was great, plus... More

Very friendly service, and a quality meal served in a timely manner to get us out by 7:15. We had a table by the window and there is a view over Trafalgar Square and up Whitehall. We would go back again.

Very fine views across London with views of the Shards, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament and Lord Nelson. We went for the afternoon tea with the passion fruit Bellini for £29.50 per person which we all really enjoyed. I can really recommend this place. I will go there again when I am back in London.

Dined after a visit to the Sargeant exhibition. Views from the restaurant are fantastic. Great menu choice - lamb was perfect so was the steak. One of the best Eton mess I've had in a very long time. Only criticism was it was s bit cold in parts of the restaurant. But would definitely recommend. Was my second visit. Staff... More

We make a point of having a pre-theatre dinner at the Portrait restaurant each time we visit London. Such a beautiful view, absolutely great service, and good food. And not noisy. Never disappoints!

I tried to enjoy the afternoon tea three times and in none of these they were able to guarantee me a cup of tea and two scones when the bar was almost empty! Come on! Worst service ever. The portrait of the inability

This cafe in the bowels of the poorly sign posted museum, where nothing is where it is said to be even on the guides on the walls or brochures, is dingy over crowded and dark; having said that the food and drink was fine itself, but there is no place to queue for instance. Finding a Toilet is a nightmare,... More

Staying in Trafalgar Square / Embankment

Neighborhood Profile
Trafalgar Square / Embankment
With its iconic Nelson’s Column, majestic oversized lions and brightly-lit fountains, Trafalgar Square is not just considered the heart of this bustling London hub, but the very core of the city itself. Beyond this esteemed gathering place are more famous icons, as well as a disproportionate numbers of the city’s most popular cultural attractions including the National Gallery and many West End theaters. Along the way to these major sites are quiet lanes and antiquated pubs to discover, as well as riverside vistas to enjoy on the embankment. With a calendar full of celebratory events, any time of year is a fine time to visit.
