Description: Named after a prosperous banking and business district in Southern Tamil Nadu, Chettinad Restaurant in Londons West End specialises in Southern Indian food cooked traditionally and authentically. Attractively sleek and neutral, Chettinad is a warm, comfortable restaurant with a contemporary look and feel and invitingly friendly service from experienced and efficient staff. The menu here at Chettinad is based around the famed culinary region of the aforementioned Tamil Nadu, a land bordered by the Arabian sea and the mountainous Western Ghats, resulting in a wide array of produce and flavours particular to the area. Chettinad draws on many specialties of Tamil Nadu, using fresh, flavoursome ingredients to recreate the grain and vegetable heavy dishes as well as the famed masala dosa, doubtless the signature dish of the region. A change from the usual tandoori style Indian cookery found in London, Chettinad provides locals and visitors with an opportunity to further explore the cuisine of India in chic surroundings under the guidance of talented chefs and knowledgeable waiting staff.

We love South Indian food - this was some of the best ever! The Thali's were amazing, the lamb dish being particularly tender and tasty. The wine was great, and good value too. The service from Ranjit was excellent - we will definitely return!

Visited based on TA reviews and was not disappointed. Ordered a bunch of things to taste. Had the shrimp appetizer (can't remember name) and vegetable samosa. Both were good. Followed up with lamb curry (first one on menu) and vegetable korma. Both were outstanding and very flavorful. The bread was exceptional. Would definitely go back. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal.

We were in a hurry, because we hadn't got a table somewhere else, and our cinema tickets would be useless unless we could eat, pay, and leave in 35 minutes. And just to complicate things, one of us has a gluten-free diet because of coeliac. The waiter was very punctilious in warning us of possible contamination from the griddle on... More

We were staying in the Bloomsbury area and after a busy day exploring London were hungry and looking for a restaurant not too far from our hotel. After checking out trip advisor we decided on the Chettinad restaurant which had been given great reviews ( very current ) and were quietly confident that it was a good choice. It was... More

Menu says Southern Indian Cooking as you would get at home and that's exactly what it tastes like. We had a delicious meal at a very reasonable cost. The staff were uniformly welcoming and our designated waiter (Sam) could not have been more helpful, offering useful menu advice.

This is a nice place for a bit of different Indian food. Not just the normal Tikka Masala. The chef is using his grandmother's recipes and the food taste a bit like home cooking, in the best way. First the bread as start-up, followed by main courses and a sweet to wrap up, all was very good. The staff working... More

We visited Chettinad and were pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome and knowledge of our waiter Sam - who offered his advice on our menu selection without appearing intrusive or overbearing. The food was superb, full of taste and flavour. Thanks to Sam and all at the Chettinad, we'll certainly return again!

My wife and I celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary in London by having dinner at Chettinad based on all the tripadvisor reviews. The food was excellent and tasty and we would know given our families are from Kerala in south India. The Aadu chukku starter was delicious with the right amount of spice an Indian person would appreciate. We... More
