Description: Welcome to Chettinad, the world of phenomenal South Indian cuisine. Chettinad is a small village in the Southern Tamil Nadu State of India. Chettinad is known for its culinary delicacies and now is one of the many reasons why people get to know Chettinad. We are a no fuss, no frill, stylish, laid back diner, who just speaks of truly and honest South Indian food in the heart of Central London. We only know how to cook-up good home comfort authentic food freshly made to order with understated approach to service. No meal is complete without traditional Dosa, lentil pancake eaten any time during the day. Well! Certainly it isn't just another Curry House!!! "Ideal place to try something new if you are a South Indian food virgin" Back home in Chettinad, your dishes are served on a huge fresh banana leaf, a disposable platter. Contact with your food is direct and tactile as you eat with your right hand, mixing wet into dry ingredients - a messy business for the uninitiated. In Chettinad Restaurant here, we want you to experience authentic original flavours, therefore you would find some of our dishes served with fresh banana leaf. Today we appreciate and respect that you have entrusted your palate to us, we will take great loving care and take your taste buds on a journey where each mouthful sings a new magical ''WOW'' note. Enjoy your meal at Chettinad- The Village Restaurant, where "QUALITY MEETS TRADIITON"

Hit the mark - food & service was great & price reasonable (particularly for location). We hadn't specifically tried South Indian food before & were keen for something different. Kowsi provided good advice re heat levels, amount of food etc. usually we over order but thanks to advice we had the right amount & right type for different taste buds... More

Unlike many other reviewers I was unimpressed perhaps because there are so many good Indian restaurants in London. Nor is it particularly cheap. The service was chaotic with three different waiters separately taking our order but nobody actually bringing any food until we made a fuss. We were seated near the back of the restaurant in a souless room. The... More

Popped in here as had seen positive reviews and was within walking distance of my hotel. Overall, very good. Starter was superb, full of flavour, generous portion and beautifully presented. Main course equally good, again well cooked, very tasty. I eat in a lot of Indian restaurants and the food here compares very favourably (or should that be 'flavourably'??!) with... More

Decided to go based on the reviews and we weren't disappointed. Had the veggie platter starter, southern indian style with mini masala dosai, excellent. I had a lamb dish, beautifully spiced, not overpoweringly hot, subtle, very good, my friend had a dosai and liked it. Service was a bit slow but we were kept informed and apologies offered. Decor is... More

Having spent time in Chennai, I was nervous of stepping in to a restaurant labelling itself as a "South Indian Village Restaurant". I shouldn't have been - the food was exquisite. Saravanan (who seemed in charge of floor service) was charming and introduced me to the dishes he thought I would enjoy, and we was absolutely right. A minor error... More

I found this restaurant by getting off the Tube and asking somebody where to get a cheap lunch. They pointed me in this direct, and, boy, is this place ever a great bargain. It's quite a fancy-looking restaurant on the inside, but the prices are jaw-droppingly low for the location: you can get a full lunch starting at three pounds... More

The food was excelent (massala was awesome) and the prices, for London, were very good. Nice decoration and very helpful waiters. Even the guy who runs the restaurant came by from our table to ask us if everything was fine.

Had a late Sunday lunch here and it was excellent. Don't be put off by the external appearance, inside is very pleasant. The staff very friendly and the food excellent. My first experience of a Dosa and what a pleasant surprise. Very tasty. The curry was mouth watering and I would recommend the lemon rice. Will come again when next... More

Situated in Fitzrovia, just off the Tottenham Court Road and close to the British Museum, this medium sized South Indian restaurant is well worth a visit if you're in the area, and I'd very much recommend that you find yourself so.. It was a quiet Thursday night in mid-January when my wife and I went, so as you would expect... More
