The food is very basic and boring and no atmosphere apart from faint music if you ask them to put it on. Look at the bill at the end because you may get charged for what you did not have.

I spent an evening at El Pirata with a group of friends. We sat downstairs in one of the alcoves which was nice but if you want the best possible atmosphere I would suggest booking a table on the ground floor. We shared a selection of tapas which for the most part was very tasty but the dishes could have... More

Eaten here a few times now and always generally pleased and have had a pleasant lunch/dinner. I would though recommend steering clear of the set option, it's never quite as good as going off piste. Service is always good as are wine choices. The acid test, I will be returning.

Excellent service and wide variety of tapas. Full bar. Friendly staff. Really liked all of the Iberico ham offerings and Spanish Cheeses.

I returned to El Pirata after about 10 years and was immediately recognised by the Manager which I thought was impressive. The service and the freshness of the tapas is very good. The garlic prawns come in large and huge - fantastic. Prices are fair. Try and book a table on the ground floor unless you want privacy then book... More

Situated in the middle of stylish Mayfair, El Pirata offers a comprehensive range of tapas, both traditional and more unusual. The jamon was wonderful, gambas pil pil perfectly garlicky and the rice with black squid ink sublime. I also loved the broken eggs - a combo of fried potatoes, fried egg, chorizo and lovely prawns. A dish to dream about.... More

We stayed around the corner from El Pirata and ended up having dinner at the bar (since we did not have reservations). The food was amazing and we enjoyed some of the English twists on traditional tapas (like black pudding (just try it, you might love it!). Definitely worth the trip up the street!

My wife and I have been going to El Pirata for many years as it lays within the mayfair area we use most. The staff are terrific and despite the time lapse between visits always remember us. Paco the main patron is a delight and pleasingly Paulo behind the bar has returned having left for a short time some years... More

OK - so firstly this place IS in Mayfair so don't expect it to be cheap given the rents I assume they have to pay. GBP116 including two jugs of sangria (GBP28) was pricy but I wouldn't mind paying that if the quality had been really good. Unfortunately, it was no better than average. As my wife said "I can... I had a very enjoyable evening at this Restaurant. We had a selection of meats, fish and vegetables. The Squid and the Prawns were first class. However the meat dishes were exceptional. Rounded off with a Rice pudding desert. The wine list was very good. However it was not a set menu, therefore it was not cheap. Great service with... More
