Cheap and thats about it really.

Cheap belly filling food, no pretensions so it achieves the objective fo a full stomach on not much money. Nothing wrong with that but nothing for a non-local to go out of the way for.

Went here for lunch today and I really don't know why people rave about this pie and mash place - it was grim. To start with though, the shop is very authentic, with some lovely traditional fixtures inside. The staff are very friendly and you feel like they really enjoy their job and looking after the customers. However the mash... More

When you walk in you feel you jumped in a past century shop. Staff is extremely kind. Food is traditional and you can have a lovely taste of English cuisine. The atmosphere is rustic and simple, do not expect starred Michelin place, however portions are big, tasty and cheap and that is what really matter. Go and enjoy pastries!

G Kelly is awesome. Absolutely loved their pie & mash. Also, they do the sexiest apple pies. Veggies, they cater for us as well as they do great soya pies.

This shop is the best Pie and mash that I have tasted since my Mother and Father shop in stepney. I go to the shop at lease twice a month

My husband and I visited as after reading Fingersmith I became fascinated by the East end. The girl who served was very pleasant but informed us that Kelly's has closed one place and with all the other fast food places was not so busy, it certainly wasn't that Friday. Initially we were going to take some pies home but decided... More

Having heard so much about this 'pie & mash' and the 'jellied eel', I was looking forward to trying this local & traditional 'delicacy'. Sadly, it turns out that this food was developed for the poor working class in Victorian times & the recipes & cheap ingredients haven't changed since then. On walking in, I wasn't greeted by a hello... More

I visited tradition G Kelly pie and mash but it was on Roman Road so not sure if this is the same one. It was wonderful nd the most friendly welcome from both staff and the local customers who helped me find my way to the shop, and then the return to the tube station. I ate the traditional meal... It's funny to think that my favourite pie and mash shop is now popular with foreign tourists. I've been eating at Kelly's in Bethnal Green Road since about 1960 and it never changes. It's still the best pie and mash in Bethnal Green. You have to eat it with the liquor (parsley sauce) and have the chilli vinegar or it... More

My wife and sister in law were born in London so they had to stop in for traditional pie and mash. If you really have to eat it, then I suppose this is as good as it gets. Don't see the point myself. Badly cooked beef in a pretty ordinary sauce. Price was right if that's all you care about.
