Nice but variable

I can't decide whether this place is amazing for sub-par. I once had innovative and delicious, almost gourmet food here for dirt cheap prices. But experiences both before and since have not met that standard. Part of me thinks I dreamt it but my friends backed me up that one meal was... read more

The menu had dishes which looked enticing and authentic enough. Our shared vegetarian starter for two (at just over £11) comprised of two small deep fried potato cakes (which tasted of fried mashed potato), two pieces of deep fried tempeh (fermented soya beans which were oily and bland) and plain tasteless gado-gado (two cabbage rolls containing blanched vegetables) - all... This restaurant has moved from Dean St to 118 Shaftesbury Avenue. Ate in there tonight with my family, it was not a good experience. Firstly and more importantly, the food was not good at all. Mixed starter consisted of luke warm tasteless spring rolls, dry, over sweet satay and dull, oily, badly fried chicken wings. Mains were much of the... More

Looks like it reopened where Golden Day used to be on 118 Shaftesbury Ave. We saw Indonesian folks having diner in that place, so decided to try it out... We had a nice meal, Food was very tasty.

This is the restaurant in London I return to most often. Been here many times over 20 years! It's great value and delicious food. Far better than for example somewhere much pricier like Amaya. Mee Goreng and Gado Gado especially good. It deserves better reviews.

Really nice little Indonesia place. The deals are often great value and the drinks reasonable. The portions of some meat meals are small but the prices are very cheap! Honestly can't wait to go back and eat again. The lamb cooked in chilli is fantastic and we nearly always get the gado gado as it's really yummy. We had a... More

We went here one evening for the set menu which seemed like a good deal - 2 course for £9. The food wasn't bad, however, the portions were very stingy. The spring rolls starter consists literally of a single small spring roll. Same goes for the pergedel - a single potato cake. The main courses were quite lacking in terms... More

Staying in Soho

Neighborhood Profile
Soho
The go-to district for a good time in London, Soho hosts a wealth of world-class theatres and a compelling lineup of cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars, and clubs. At Soho's core is London's original Red Light District and the epicenter of the LGBT scene – and thus the city's hottest nightlife. For shopping enthusiasts, Soho is not only the home of London's greatest concentration of boutique shops, but also the most strategic place to set off on a tour of the world's most celebrated department stores. In the southern part of the neighborhood lies Chinatown, with its multitude of delicious and affordable restaurants. Closer to the Thames, Chinatown's narrow and teeming lantern-lit lanes spill onto the expansive hub of glitzy Leicester Square.
