This is a nice little gastropub tucked away not far from the Shard and London Bridge. It's friendly and a little trendy, in line with the local area. Stop in for a drink with your friends or some of their tasty offerings. It's a perfect place to rest your feet and regroup after wandering along the south bank.

I work on the street and love this as a breakfast meeting place. Their flat whites are well made, their eggs always well cooked (have tried their avo, sour dough and poached eggs recently which were lovely, and their smoked haddock and poached eggs on a previous visit - all good). My colleague recommended the vegetarian cooked breakfast too. Their... More

Visited this last night after booking a table 20.15. Had a couple of good times here in the past. The table was in the entrance area already crowded with folks drinking. There was no room to sit properly, no room for staff carrying hot plates to walk by. We had to ask people who were drinking at the bar to... More

Went to the Garrison for dinner. Never been before. It was busy and had a great atmosphere. There was a good choice on the menu, some traditional pub fare, others more unusual. Along with the menu there were some daily specials. Our waitress was friendly., chatty and helpful. Unlike many other pubs and restaurants they had a good choice of... More

The small menu at this place appears interesting, but the food itself is a little below average. Add to this the long wait times, the nice-but-dim waiters and the expensive prices and you have a recipe for a disappointing evening. Certainly won't go back.

We had travelled up to London to see the fireworks and wanted a meal but looking online found most places were charging a fortune - £150+ per head. Then we stumbled onto the Garrison. What a find!! The place was buzzing - the staff were cheerful and efficient and the manager was totally in charge of everything. The food is... More

Popped in for breakfast. The menu caters for all tastes especially veggies. My husband had the rather filling proper breakfasts whereas I had the avocado on sour dough with poached eggs - delicious! This is a very popular venue which fills up quickly. Great quirky decor and friendly staff. Service was rather slow and forgetful but I believe this was... More

Not the best experience, dog tolerant not friendly. Very slow service. Starter of shop bought smoked salmon with tiny cubes of salted beetroot that was clearly taken from a jar.

Very rare to get 3 very good quality course, often at least one disappoints. Starter was Crab on toast - tasty and fresh and not too skimpy on crabmeat either! Followed on by an amazing beef based dish (name surpasses me) which was juicy, flavoursome with some nice accompanying pieces, a baked shallot not over strong and a type of... More

Staying in Southwark

Neighborhood Profile
Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighborhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
