Situated on the third floor of the Royal Festival Hall, perfect for visitors to Southbank, Skylon combines retro style with unbeatable views of the London skyline from triple-height picture windows to create a stunning dining complex. Situated by the central cocktail bar, the informal Skylon Grill restaurant offers light a la carte meals in a casual ambience. Executive Chef, Adam Gray describes his food as modern British – simple, honest and with a sometimes unusual twist on classic dishes. Renowned for its extensive wine list, the Skylon Bar also stands out for its quality cocktails and stunning view of the Southbank. A destination in its own right, Skylon Bar alone attracts many culture vultures who share the company of magazine editors and members of Parliament.

Buzzy restaurant with views over the Thames

This restaurant is part of the South Bank complex and is in the Festival Hall. The Skylon is a big open structure cafe style restaurant with wonderful floor to ceiling windows looking out to the Thames. Environment is very dynamic and a bit loud: would not go for an intimate dinner but its perfect for an after work gathering. The food they serve is modern international cuisine; well presented and decent portions but no real... More

Great location in the festival hall. Booked online and had a confirmation call back a week before.Friday night was very busy so getting cocktails at the central bar in the restaurant wasn't possible but had them at our table instead. Managed to get a table at the window overlooking the Thames. Would recommend booking in advance. Food and arrive were... More

This place was a bit tricky to find for a tourist. The food was very average. Nothing special at all. The services was amazing. The staff was attentive and fast but the food did not meet the same standards.

Dear Nelly, Many thanks for your kind words on service and atmosphere. I will make sure to pass them on to the team. I am obviously more frustrated to see that your food was not on the same level. We are not sure if you ate in the grill or restaurant but both Adam our head chef and I would... More

Furniture gives it a bit of a retro feel - 70's green fabric chairs. Staff are very accommodating - 2 of our party were over an hour late but we were not pressured or rushed. Pre theatre menu is good value and food is delicious. Portions a bit on the small side though. Request a table by the window to... More

I've eaten at Skylon Grill many times. The food is really good, as is the wine. The service has always been excellent and ALWAYS with a smile. Amazingly,it's not expensive although it certainly looks as if it might be. All tables are good but try to get one next to the window for a great river view. The South Bank... More

Dear Gordon, I would like to thank you for your recent visit and subsequent feedback. I am really sorry that the atmosphere in Skylon was too noisy for your liking. We take the fact that we are in a grade listed building as a marvellous asset. Unfortunately the very high ceiling mean that the restaurant when extremely busy can get... More

We are a couple in our 70's who took another couple out for dinner at the Skylon on a Thursday night. The service was good and the food was fairly good as well - though it was not cheap, especially the wines. However the level of noise was overpowering - we could barely hear what was being said. We find... More

We came here for dinner on a Saturday evening. The staff were very friendly and efficient. We had the two courses for £28 menu and were very pleased with the quality. The dishes are very fresh and not stodgy or heavy. We usually have a bottle of champagne when we eat out and £60 for a bottle of Moet is... More

Staying in Southbank

Neighborhood Profile
Southbank
Big time attractions such as the London Eye and a thriving theatre scene (compliments of the National Theatre and the Young Vic) are but a few of the reasons that Southbank is such a collectively cherished part of town. With plenty of family friendly activities and venues lined up along a pedestrianized river bank between Westminster Bridge and Waterloo Bridge, visitors can always expect a casual and festive atmosphere. On top of all the fun stuff to do at Southbank is the opportunity to simply sit back and admire photo-op views of iconic landmarks like Parliament and St Paul's Cathedral, just on across the Thames.
