I don't often call a restaurant faultless, but Almeida just does everything right... the food, the ambience and the service were all spot on. I heartily recommend the lamb rump, served with charred lettuce and artichoke. The lamb was just as it should be: sweet, tender, and melt-in-the-mouth delicious. The staff were charming and efficient, and our waiter recommended a... More

The food, service and ambience is absolutely terrific. We often eat on the Restaurant and on every occasion we are treated like Royalty. Every meal we've eaten is spectacular so tasty and beautifully presented. The staff are charming and look after all their guests. We love it here and thoroughly recommend this as a fabulous place to eat and enjoy... More

The pre-theatre lunch menu looked like very good value and we had the smoked trout/broad beans and samphire starter, followed by the belly pork main course. The trout was moist and delicately smoked and what seemed like an odd combination of vegetables in fact made a perfect accompaniment. The pork belly, coming as it did from a suckling pig (apologies... More

Great food and great service. This is THE best place for Sunday Lunch in London. Loved the starters and the Roast beef was perfectly cooked. Love the fact that they do side plates of veg rather than pile everything onto one plate.

When we arrived the chap who met us pointed us to the bar, where we grabbed furniture ourselves and gathered without any problems. Pierre the manager arrived after a few moments and was charming and reassuring. He introduced us to Joe the barman, who was a delight and they revealed that Joe had been practising a cocktail recipe from our... More

The problem with this busy Islington neighbourhood restaurant isn't the food or the surroundings ( though pricey it might be) it's just the service. A 21st birthday celebration with a party of four went badly wrong after we turned up here at the appointed time of 8.15 on a busy Friday. The request for a 'nice table' saw us shoe-horned... More

There are many good serviceable restaurants in or near Upper Street of which two or three are really good. This is one. I keep coming back to it because its civilised, the service is really good, we are not rushed, and the food is very good and of the right quantity. We all had the three course set dinner and... More

We reserved a table for pre-theatre (Almeida theatre is opposite) with relatively low expectations. Boy, were we pleasantly surprised! The food was excellent and beautifully presented; the service was attentive and quick. A side order of new potatoes requested without butter came as requested and were delicious. A very pleasant French restaurant for anyone in the Islington area; a must... More

My sister and I ate here last week. The waiters and manager were charming and made a real fuss of us. The food was excellent - a great use of flavours and ingredients, and a menu with a lot of choice. The tables are large and nicely spaced out so you don't feel crammed in. I highly recommend this restaurant... More
