amazing food but go for a simple wine

Extremely expensive restaurant!!! The food its good but not for paying 700 £ for 5 people for food and a Sake bottle. I'm really amaze. There are better Restaurants than this one for Japanese food .

We were looked after in a beautiful way. The staff was so kind and they all welcome you in a choir. The food was fantastic, everything spotless. I read some of the bad reviews people left here and totally disagree, going to a restaurant is like going to someone's house you should show respect and kindness to get it back.... More

Lived in Tokyo for a year and a half, about 600 yards from Tsukiji fish market... and the sushi @ Umu is the REAL DEAL! A must do for the foodie in London

We went for our 25th wedding anniversary so it needed to be special, it was. Exquisite ingredients, perfectly prepared with some glorious taste surprises. One of the best meals we've ever had...and that's saying something.

I’d eaten once before at Umu, lunch at a very good friend’s expense. This time treated myself to the Kaizeki menu. Arrived at 6pm, left after 8.30. I was not hurried at all, despite the pre-meal reminder that Umu needed the table back by 8pm. Fair enough, but my eating was dictated by the fixed menu, of 8 courses I... More

My friend and I booked a 10pm reservation to her favorite London restaurants on July 4th 2015. When I reach Umu, we were informed that our reservation did not go through. As it was already 945pm and there were a few empty tables, we asked whether it will be possible to wait for a table to open up, as our... More

We went to visit on 4th July and was chased out by the The restaurant manager. Reason is that our booking did not go through. He is very rude and racist. When we asked him for his name, the manager answered : None of your business. The manager has to be send for more training in handling customers rather than rude... More

Firsly, the entrance and atmousphere is something special... nestled down one of Mayfair's quietest roads. The food is perfectly presented, with some of the best sushi i've ever tasted (on par with nobu). However, the portions (although tasty) are tiny... i am sure this is owing to the michelin star rating and at this level it's all about style over... More

One of the best Japanese restaurants i've ever been to - everything was excellent, starting from simple and delicate home made tofu through delicious wagyu beef tataki, one of the most delicate ways to prepare it to a large selection of sushi, sashimi and other makis, with freshest and most delicious fish in town and very original and daring combinations.... Staying in Mayfair

Neighborhood Profile
Mayfair
Set beside some of London's best parks and home to world-class galleries, luxurious hotels, and famed thoroughfares, the ultra upscale Mayfair is one of London's most exclusive haunts. Here the shopping is haute, the dining is exquisite, and the nightlife is vibrant. A casual stroll through the area’s chic streets will reveal that Michelin stars and chauffeured cars are practically the norm here. Even if you're on a tight budget, this exceptionally well connected swath of Central London is worth exploring, if only for the chance to take a peak at the goings on of upper crust English society.
