This places serves contemporary and traditional Japanese foods, both of which are prepared to a very high standard comparable to that in upmarket restaurants in Tokyo. One of the highlights of this place is the extensive selection of the sakes, which is a "must-try". This place is indeed very expensive, but is certainly worth the visit.

Highly overpriced and not worth the quantity. One PIECE of Sushi starts at £7! They don't do rolls or anything like that so the menu is not designed to share. Paid approx £700 for 5 people and still went hungry. The quality and service was good but still not worth the money. Much better off going to Nobu or Zuma.

Had the tasting menu, which was nice and classy. However, I think it is not the place for those who are looking for the real sushi experience.

Extremely expensive restaurant!!! The food its good but not for paying 700 £ for 5 people for food and a Sake bottle. I'm really amaze. There are better Restaurants than this one for Japanese food .

We were looked after in a beautiful way. The staff was so kind and they all welcome you in a choir. The food was fantastic, everything spotless. I read some of the bad reviews people left here and totally disagree, going to a restaurant is like going to someone's house you should show respect and kindness to get it back.... More

Lived in Tokyo for a year and a half, about 600 yards from Tsukiji fish market... and the sushi @ Umu is the REAL DEAL! A must do for the foodie in London

We went for our 25th wedding anniversary so it needed to be special, it was. Exquisite ingredients, perfectly prepared with some glorious taste surprises. One of the best meals we've ever had...and that's saying something.

We love Japanese food and went to Umu last Saturday. We were given one of the best tables in the restaurant (it was my husband's birthday) and we had the Kaiseki (tasting) menu. The food was simply stunning; the freshest ingredients you can imagine, beautifully presented and served by very knowledgeable staff. You pay a lot of this but food... More

I’d eaten once before at Umu, lunch at a very good friend’s expense. This time treated myself to the Kaizeki menu. Arrived at 6pm, left after 8.30. I was not hurried at all, despite the pre-meal reminder that Umu needed the table back by 8pm. Fair enough, but my eating was dictated by the fixed menu, of 8 courses I... More

My friend and I booked a 10pm reservation to her favorite London restaurants on July 4th 2015. When I reach Umu, we were informed that our reservation did not go through. As it was already 945pm and there were a few empty tables, we asked whether it will be possible to wait for a table to open up, as our... More

Staying in Mayfair

Neighborhood Profile
Mayfair
Set beside some of London's best parks and home to world-class galleries, luxurious hotels, and famed thoroughfares, the ultra upscale Mayfair is one of London's most exclusive haunts. Here the shopping is haute, the dining is exquisite, and the nightlife is vibrant. A casual stroll through the area’s chic streets will reveal that Michelin stars and chauffeured cars are practically the norm here. Even if you're on a tight budget, this exceptionally well connected swath of Central London is worth exploring, if only for the chance to take a peak at the goings on of upper crust English society.
