Michelin-starred Tamarind presents an elegant take on Indian cuisine from its gilded dining room in chic Mayfair. The inventive menu is rooted in traditional Moghul cooking, with fish, meat and game dishes brought forth from the Tandoor oven in an authentic north-west Indian fashion. Great Indian food

You would expect London to have excellent Indian food, and at Tamarind that expectation is met. It is the best I have had. The service was a bit lacking, but other than that an excellent restaurant.

Maybe the headline is a bit misleading but expectation and reality can often be two polar opposites, and although the difference between the two wasn't as stark dining at Tamarind, there was a noticeable gap. With this restaurant being judged by the Michelin star rating it has earned, the lunch meal that I had faired poorly in delivering against such... More

Wow, I was slightly worried that the Indian spices would be lost when the food was produced in a fine dining way but I couldn't be more wrong! The lamb cutlet starter had my mouth doing cartwheels. The main of king prawns was lush, followed by a creamy delightful kulfi. The staff were excellent and knowledgeable too. I hope to... More

Grilled scallop as starter was very tasty and perfectly prepared. Tandoori grilled baby chicken breast was the best chicken ever! The lamb chops from Elliot Farm was also very good. All in all the restaurant delivers as expected from a Michelin star restaurant.

We were a party of twelve the night we visited Tamarind, and between us we probably ordered 80-90% of what was offered on the menu. Most of the food was exceptionally good, although the Chicken Tikka was a bit dry and mealy. The appetizers were delicious (and we ordered ALL of them!) The only consistent complaint I heard was the... More

I went to this restaurant just because I heard that they do own an M Star. I was not disappointed at all. The restaurant was very elegant. Food was served in a very elegant way. I will certainly go again. Great Indian Restaurant.

We had the taster menu at £75/head. I was driving so not drinking and my husband decided to go for the wine pairing for another £50. We have done this at several restaurants and I have to say that the wine was a real disappointment. My husband got 4 small glasses of OKish wine which didn't seem to add anything... More

Tamarind was recommended to us by Tori Amos. My friends were raving about the Black Dal, and they thought it was amazing. I wasn't so carried away with it, but the food was good and the service fine. If you're looking for high end price range places to visit, it's worth a go. Fine Indian cuisine in London, but don't... More

Staying in Mayfair

Neighborhood Profile
Mayfair
Set beside some of London's best parks and home to world-class galleries, luxurious hotels, and famed thoroughfares, the ultra upscale Mayfair is one of London's most exclusive haunts. Here the shopping is haute, the dining is exquisite, and the nightlife is vibrant. A casual stroll through the area’s chic streets will reveal that Michelin stars and chauffeured cars are practically the norm here. Even if you're on a tight budget, this exceptionally well connected swath of Central London is worth exploring, if only for the chance to take a peak at the goings on of upper crust English society.
