Michelin-starred Tamarind presents an elegant take on Indian cuisine from its gilded dining room in chic Mayfair. The inventive menu is rooted in traditional Moghul cooking, with fish, meat and game dishes brought forth from the Tandoor oven in an authentic north-west Indian fashion. Muted tones and attentive service make the restaurant a smart yet convivial destination.

The greeting and general atmosphere were excellent. Service was outstanding, and in particular we were attentively looked after by the Nepalese head waiter (with a sense of humour), who listened carefully to our general likes and dislikes, and then suggested a varied selection of dishes, all of which were delicious and full of flavour without being excessively "hot". A really good... More

Staying in Mayfair, one is a little limited to wide choices for Indian food. Apparently and happily two of the best Indian restaurants in the whole of the UK are located in Mayfair. One is Tamarind and one is Benares. On this occasion my wife and I visited Tamarind, I had been there once before but probably a little worse... More

Great indian food with high standard of service. Went for our first marriage Anniversary after theater and loved it. The only thing is being an indian i have large appetite and this being posh end of a restaurant would not fulfill my need in budget and had to go for 2 portions in all courses. Their food and service is... More

Great service and great food. Most impressive is that they remembered the Pinotage I had ordered six months before!

Loved the food here, went for the pre theatre menu and I highly recommend that! Staff were wonderful and manager was lovely! Only disappointment one of the desserts had run out (pistachio kulfi) which my partner was looking forward to. Other than that would definitely return again :)

Shockingly charge just under 20 pounds for a shot of brand. Quite suprisingly disgusting. Go elsewhere for peace of mind if you drink alcohol. Very very poor management. Go elsewhere to eat

We've wondered for a long time whether Michelin starred Indian food would be as superior to "good" Indian restaurants as we hoped it might be. Based on our experience at Tamarind, the answer is no. The food was good, but not amazing (king prawns excluded, which were fantastic), the service was impersonal yet fussy at the same time, and the... More

My wife, 15 year old son and I were on a whistle stop two day London visit. Monday night was spent having dinner with our MP in the House of Commons which was fantastic so I wanted to make lunch the next day similarly memorable...we were not disappointed. You soon forget that the dining room is in the basement as... More

Staying in Mayfair

Neighborhood Profile
Mayfair
Set beside some of London's best parks and home to world-class galleries, luxurious hotels, and famed thoroughfares, the ultra upscale Mayfair is one of London's most exclusive haunts. Here the shopping is haute, the dining is exquisite, and the nightlife is vibrant. A casual stroll through the area’s chic streets will reveal that Michelin stars and chauffeured cars are practically the norm here. Even if you're on a tight budget, this exceptionally well connected swath of Central London is worth exploring, if only for the chance to take a peak at the goings on of upper crust English society.
