A lovely experience

I arrived early so went upstairs for a drink in the lounge bar. The service there was pleasant, but very slow. But I suppose the adds to a very relaxed & pleasant atmosphere. We were then shown to our table. The service was great. It was attentive when it needed to be and not intrusive. The food... read more

The roast is wonderful. The presentation is great and can you beat eating the same place as Holmes and Watson?! This is a classic step into literature but really the food was very good the menu has expanded since Arthur Conan Doyle's time.

A lovely setting for a meal in an historic building. Extensive wine list with some excellent bottles. Service also excellent with friendly staff. The problem is that for the price they charge the food isn't really worth it. Went to Goodman's in Mayfair in the same week, paid less and had a better meal.

Arrived at 8:00 pm on a Saturday night. Food order taken at 8:15. Appetizers delivered an hour later. Another hour for main course. Others who arrived after us had had their dessert and coffee and had departed. Asked to speak to a manager. Told the delay was attributed to my wife ordering filet of sole. What crap. Dinner finally arrives.... More

We went to Simpsons to try their famous roast beef. The dining room is a real step back in time. It has the makings for an outstanding experience. However, the servers were only very average. You expect more from a restaurant of this level. The bottle of wine we ordered was set on the table and then the server walked... More

This is the first time I have been here and I just loved the old grandeur, elegance & service. The food was wonderfully presented and tasted as good as it looked. Staff where attentive and nothing was too much trouble, great for business lunches. I hope to visit again on my next visit to London. Mandy C.

We celebrated my wife's birthday with 24 members of our family. It was a very happy occasion, and the meal was first class with superb food and excellent service. We are looking forward to our next visit.

You can't go wrong if you want the classic Downton Abbey dining experience here. Dine where great British statesman like Winston Churchill and Benjamin Disraeli ate. Where else could you say that! Huge carts filled with roast beef and lamb, Yorkshire Pudding, veggies, roast potatoes, and puddings galore. Roast beef sliced to perfection, to every and any degree of done-ness.... More

We called for breakfast and it was superb. I had the 10 deadly sins and it was delicious with everything being perfectly cooked and the Bubble and Squeak bonbon an absolute star of the dish. My wife had the egg white Omelette with Granola and fruits, this was also superb. It is a bit tired but the history and culture... More

We came here last week for an anniversary meal and were very happy! We were seated at a different table due to the fact that the one allocated to us was right next to the piano but this was good for us as it meant we could talk without shouting. The piano player himself was very good! We ordered an... More

Staying in Trafalgar Square / Embankment

Neighborhood Profile
Trafalgar Square / Embankment
With its iconic Nelson’s Column, majestic oversized lions and brightly-lit fountains, Trafalgar Square is not just considered the heart of this bustling London hub, but the very core of the city itself. Beyond this esteemed gathering place are more famous icons, as well as a disproportionate numbers of the city’s most popular cultural attractions including the National Gallery and many West End theaters. Along the way to these major sites are quiet lanes and antiquated pubs to discover, as well as riverside vistas to enjoy on the embankment. With a calendar full of celebratory events, any time of year is a fine time to visit.
