Great Value, Good quality food, Near Waterloo

Pleasant restaurant serving good honest interesting and well cooked food at great value. We ate from the set menu at £20 for three courses. There is a choice of 3 starters, 3 main courses and the sweet is chosen from the a la carte menu. There is an extensive wine list comprising a vast... read more

Went here with a work colleague in the early eve. It's down from the Old Vic and away from the immediate bustle of Waterloo. I'd have this place as great for lunch or meals with business colleagues. It's a very brightly lit restaurant with those modern wooden chairs that doesn't lend it a romantic or intimate appeal. We ate from... More

Fantastic value for money. Had the 3 course fixed price menu for £20. Everything was perfectly cooked and the portion sizes generous. A particular delight was the peanut butter cheesecake. Service was excellent and very quick, while the early dinner start time makes it ideal for a pre-theatre meal.

RSJ is a restaurant you are unlikely to find by accident. It's quietly tucked away on a side street behind ITV's London Studios on the South Bank. I learned of it from a food guide. Their website is very simple and once you've eaten there, you understand why. Effort is applied to providing friendly polished service, excellent imaginative food and... More

I had been introduced to the Secret of Waterloo last year by a dear friend where it was perfect for an intimate chat. Ive since had a great date here as well. I needed somewhere relaxed and special to bring my brothers and wives and this was perfect. They loved it. Pre-O2 venue as it opens quite early was ideal.... More

This is an excellent spot near Waterloo station, tucked away in Coin Street, 5 minutes east of the station. It's been there for years. The style and mix is pretty unchanging. It's basically French in style, but the opposite of pompous. The set price menu (16 plus for 2 courses and 19 plus for 3) doesn't offer much choice (except... More

I have been visiting RSJ for decades, (I worked close by), and heaven knows why I have left it so long to submit a review. My last visit was on the day of my retirement. Where else would I go, to take a few friends out – other than RSJ? The food has been uniformly consistent for the thirty five... More

I was very disappointed. Not by the food - which was up to its usual high standard (I've been here many times) - but by the ambience and dining environment. We were shoved downstairs into the basement. It was terrible. Cold, draughty, uncomfortable with awful acoustics (in no way possible to converse with fellow diners) where large noisy groups tend... We were booked here for a Christmas do. At Christmas its not unusual to have standards slip a little. But, as others have, I thought RSJ's entire meal from start to finish was well worth a return visit. Staff were busy, and we were a large table but service was efficient. There was a set menu (although an extensive wine... More
