This is an excellent spot near Waterloo station, tucked away in Coin Street, 5 minutes east of the station. It's been there for years. The style and mix is pretty unchanging. It's basically French in style, but the opposite of pompous. The set price menu (16 plus for 2 courses and 19 plus for 3) doesn't offer much choice (except... More

I have been visiting RSJ for decades, (I worked close by), and heaven knows why I have left it so long to submit a review. My last visit was on the day of my retirement. Where else would I go, to take a few friends out – other than RSJ? The food has been uniformly consistent for the thirty five... More

I was very disappointed. Not by the food - which was up to its usual high standard (I've been here many times) - but by the ambience and dining environment. We were shoved downstairs into the basement. It was terrible. Cold, draughty, uncomfortable with awful acoustics (in no way possible to converse with fellow diners) where large noisy groups tend... We were booked here for a Christmas do. At Christmas its not unusual to have standards slip a little. But, as others have, I thought RSJ's entire meal from start to finish was well worth a return visit. Staff were busy, and we were a large table but service was efficient. There was a set menu (although an extensive wine... More

Wanted to take a friend for a meal that cooked 'veggie' near Southbank so searched the tinternet and found RSJ. Well, what a find. We were greeted warmly and the staff were great all the way through our visit. The food was absolutely brilliant. I had the Guinea fowl which was delicious and my friend had winter vegetables with halumi... More

A wonderful meal great value as well. The menu of the day available all day is fantastic three choices of starter, main and deserts. £19.95 for three courses £16.95 for two. From the A la carte the Mrs Mullock's potted shrimps are a triumph. The Cote de boeuf is amazing. Go you will enjoy.

I hadn't been to RSJ for a while so was eager to experience its current offer again. It's still a bit pokey, and of course those loos are two floors away if you are on the top floor, so something to bear in mind if you are bothered by stairs. But we come to eat right? We had parsnip and... More

Went here with family and friends at the end of November, 2014, and I must say that the entire meal from start to finish was superb, with the attentive wait staff catering to our needs without being intrusive. Starters, the main dishes, and desserts were superb, and the owner (Nigel) who is an oenophile with an extensive interest in wines... More

we were a party of 12 heading back to waterloo after the theatre and had great fun in a room to ourselves with excellent down to earth service from a team who took an interest in who we were and where we had travelled. the food was absolutely spot on in quality, presentation, and quantity for everyone around the table... A great place. I was unaware of this unassuming place on the South Bank before agreeing to meet friends there. My fish was perfectly cooked. I will definitely return.
