I had to go to London today and, having completed my business, fancied a decent lunch, rather than a pint and a sandwich, before my train home. RSJ, only a short walk from Waterloo was the obvious answer and it certainly came up trumps. They have an excellent and very reasonably priced lunch menu but today I opted for two... More

My friend and I stopped by after seeing Electra at the Old Vic for a lovely meal. A sauvignon blank to start with and then on to starters which comprised of arbroath smokies with a duck egg and salad. Venison as a main which was perfectly cooked, A robust red to go with our meal which was just perfect. It... More

Stayed at Mondrian Hotel and were looking for somewhere to eat within walking distance. Found RSJ on Tripadvisor - about 10 minutes walk - perfect. Looks nothing from outside but a warm welcome and great food inside plus a fantastic wine list - the owner certainly knows his Loire wines. My wife had hot foie gras with figs and I... More

The restaurant is tucked away on a corner of Stamford Street about five minutes from Waterloo Station, It serves good food at sensible prices and is the kind of neighbourhood restaurant you want to go back to again and again. We enjoyed the opportunity to sample their wide range of Loire wines served by the glass and were delighted to... More

For years this place has been on my hit list to visit, and I finally made it for a pre theatre meal. I should have gone years ago; it was thoroughly enjoyable, welcoming staff, good service, sensible prices and well presented and cooked food. The set menu is very good value but the a la carte is sensibly priced and... More

RSJ is a proper bistro. Excellent food and wine, intimate space, pre-theatre set meals ( a 5-minute walk to the National Theatre on the South Bank), reasonable and unstuffy. I was tempted by the early evening menu, but then saw that there was hot foie gras with figs as a starter on the a la carte menu. Delicious, scrumptious, with... More

make sure you book, RSJ is so good it is busy, because the food is delicious, it is a refined (not too noisy) and relaxed compact space.

Very friendly, good food, good value. Service a little slow and had to remind waitress of our wine order. Would definitely go back there.

The lesson of RSJ is don't judge a book by it's cover or a restaurant by its exterior or website. There's nothing about either of the latter to suggest how solid a wining and dining experience you will get. A triumph of substance over style. In fact, a visit to RSJ is a bit like going back in time-machine to... More
