Yum!

Just been to an arty farty art exhibit at the old power station in Wapping. Came out, and saw this old pub across the road. So happy we decided to come out in. Not only did Richard Burton, Princess Margaret, Kirk Douglas, Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland hang out here in the '50's and '60's, but so... read more

This pub has a lot of charcter due to its unique decor, and a decent pint too! As far as London goes it's reasonably priced food is rather good. It's not fine dining, just good honest grub! I'd urge anyone to pop in if you're anywhere near the Canary Wharf area.

I currently live in Johannesburg and recently started researching my family history. On chatting to my elderly aunt (94) whilst on this current business trip she remembered visiting the POW with my grandfather when just 12 years of age in 1933. She described in detail many features she remembered such as the flagstone floor, uneven staircase, pewter bar counter and... More

I got the veggie fish and chips AKA 3 nuggets of battered halloumi and chips...and I ordered an additional side salad NOT a bloody garnish. Waited over an hour to be served our food. My side salad...otherwise known as a garnish was an additional £1.99!? And the chips and halloumi were barely warm... For future reference there is a lovely... More

Had a mid-winter celebration meal with a group of friends here recently. As the title says the beer is good (with a 10% discount for camra members) and the food was good. Unlike some other pubs, it did not pretend to be anything other than 'pub grub', well cooked with reasonable quantities (but why oh why only 4 brussels?). The... More

This pub has a great traditional feel and as soon as you enter you feel like a local from times past. The bar has a spectacular zinc top which blends wonderfully around the olde worlde charm! Beer was spot on and the menu was just right, being limited to proper pub fayre. I had a chicken and chorizo pie with... More

This really is a fantastic pub. It has so much going for it. The people, atmosphere, history, views, food etc. It also has the longest pewter bar in England! With a place as steeped in history as this its a must for tourists and locals alike. Top riverside pub!

Left as two deep at bar with only 2 bar staff may have been let down by staff. Need more back up resources as lost our custom and people looked very fed up waiting

We met a friend here for lunch. He's just moved nearby and was eager to show us a proper pub. I'm so glad he did. We were given a table looking out over the river, the building is ancient and you could tell that back in the day, boats most likely drew up outside at high tide - I imagine... More
