The first UK restaurant to be awarded one, two, and then three Michelin stars, Le Gavroche remains a class apart. Since opening in 1967, this Mayfair bastion of French cuisine has been very much a family affair, and chef-patron Michel Roux Jr continues the tradition today. The elegance of the menu and the ambience is impeccably tailored, while the discreet service has won its own plaudits.

We came here for a special occasion (80th birthday party) and were glad we had made the effort to drive the nearly 3 hours into London for this do. We were led straight away downstairs to our table and made to feel welcome. We were slightly stunned at the size of the bottle of port for our aperitif, which must... More

I will not write very much in this report. I took my wife for her 70th birthday. It was the best meal we have ever had. Not cheap, but well worth it. I must say this is the first time we have visited a restaurant that is top end such as this. We at no time were made to feel... More

I visited here for the tasting menu one evening last year. I was being "treated" and in a group of 6 and forgot to give any warning about my gluten allergy. Not only were the very charming staff helpful in ensuring i was "safe" but my some miracle they produced a gluten free sorbet a few courses in. One of... More

Our second visit, just as impressive as the first time, with our son and his wife. Best aspects are actually the service and atmosphere, the food and wine are also superb of course. Managed to reduce my IHT by £400 as well, what a bargain. MRj visited our table as well - a real bonus.

Very nice staff who can't do enough to look after even to the extent our maitre'd sent one of the dishes back herself - suckling pig - after she cut into it and decided it wasn't done perfectly. When it came back it was wonderful, as was the rest of the meal. The wine list is pretty overwhelming but with... More

The tasting menu was out of this world, an experience which we will never forget. The food is simply out of this world, and we were not rushed during our meal at any stage. We spent at least three and a half hours here, and yet it felt like twenty minutes. Tip for gentlemen, dress smartly (jacket and tie), it... More

Staying in Mayfair

Neighborhood Profile
Mayfair
Set beside some of London's best parks and home to world-class galleries, luxurious hotels, and famed thoroughfares, the ultra upscale Mayfair is one of London's most exclusive haunts. Here the shopping is haute, the dining is exquisite, and the nightlife is vibrant. A casual stroll through the area’s chic streets will reveal that Michelin stars and chauffeured cars are practically the norm here. Even if you're on a tight budget, this exceptionally well connected swath of Central London is worth exploring, if only for the chance to take a peak at the goings on of upper crust English society.
