A bird in the hand

Introduced to this fine restaurant by my Brother and his wife, who is my sister in law. A very warm welcome from the charming staff, who, in the french fashion see their jobs in a positive light. This is brasserie style but an excellent choice on the menu and on the carte des vins. Can't wait to... read more

Tucked behind the Royal Marsden Hospital this old school venue has been serving classic French dishes and fruits de mer for nearly two decades. Simplicity is key with no accompanying vegetables and sadly, no table side preparation for our steak tartare or crepe suzette that is so lovely in French restaurants - (Brasserie Gustave just down the road is top... a very Average place. Definitely overrated place. I was quite disappointed, After such good reviews, to find out that food is quite average and for that quality I would say, quite overpriced. My steak was overcooked and dry. The french fries oily. Just the bread was good. Not impressed with the service either and in addition a bit pretentious. I... More

Six of us had a very good meal. Particularly good were the Soupe de Poisson, the Rognons, the Ris de Veau and the Tarte Tartin. We all liked the Chateau Tour de By 2008 at £38 per bottle. While the service was good, one of us sitting by the window and near the door was in a cold draught and... More

Another one of those restaurants that has been there for ages. Very consistent and good service. I go here for special occasions. They are true professionals

We had an excellent family birthday here last Saturday, having lunched here with friends before Christmas. The food was classically French and very delicious, and the service was excllent. But my son ordered Steak Tartare as a main course, accompanied by chips and salad. The tartare was not prepared at the table, and came with two bottles of Tabasco sauce,... More

The oysters were good, fresh and everything you'd hope for . But the problem was the food-- chicken just so so -- steak and chips when had the steak arrived in the kitchen ?-- I should have sent it back but was a guest -- chips -- were they recycled ? or just badly cooked ?? It's French sure but... More

Oysters & langoustines to start, magnificent Dover sole for the main course and an excellent bottle of St Aubin. Hmmm, heaven. If you want show business go somewhere else. If you want really good food and professional service, then this is for you!

After being recommended to eat here by the hotel's concierge I was woefully underwhelmed. Completely unfriendly staff. Acted as if they did not want us dining there. Goat cheese salad was adequate but overwhelmed by a thick French dressing. Dover sole was good but potatoes that came with it were tasteless as was the spinach. Server did not even bother... More

We visited "Le Colombier" with friends who live close to Chelsea Square and knew the place well. We enjoyed very much traditional French cuisine; as many French restaurants in London (and elsewhere) serve -more or less- French Nouvelle Cuisine, we felt that we were served the "real thing"! We started with the soup of the day (broccoli with light cream)... More

Staying in Chelsea

Neighborhood Profile
Chelsea
Wealth courses through The King's Road, Chelsea's upmarket artery of West London life packed with shops, eateries and glitzy nightspots. For people-watching at its best and luxury retail therapy that's largely unrivalled, this area cannot be missed. But if this showy street starts to overwhelm or a moment of price tag shock sends you reeling, a quick detour down pretty much any of many King's Road veins will reveal a quieter side of Chelsea. Here the stately Royal Hospital hosts its world-famous flower show, and the Thames rolls along at a lazy pace, with leafy Battersea Park and its Peace Pagoda beckoning from across the river.
