Description: This Green Park institution was a hit when it first opened its doors in...
This Green Park institution was a hit when it first opened its doors in 1947 and since then it has remained a favourite amongst Londons dining elite. The interior is similarly timeless, with a warm neutral colour scheme, monochrome photographs, and a popular bar that runs the length of the restaurant to ensure that solo diners or last-minute latecomers have somewhere to perch. Like its sister restaurant, The Ivy, its ideal for business lunches, romantic liaisons and special occasions alike. The menu showcases modern European favourites, presented with flair but without fuss, and includes classic dishes like Salmon fishcake with buttered spinach sorrel sauce; Bannockburn rib steak with Barnaise sauce; and dressed Dorset crab. An extensive wine list and flawless service completes the picture and makes for a truly unforgettable experience.

In absence of The Ivy, which is undergoing refurbishment, we went to Le Caprice for lunch. I hadn't been for years and had forgotten just how good it is. The service is first class, the food simply delicious - particularly the Chicken Milanese! I will most definitely be going back - and just as soon as I can!

My favorite pre-theater spot in London is The Ivy, but it is under heavy restoration, so our concierge suggested we try Le Caprice instead. It has a nice quiet corner location off Piccadilly, interior is all white walls, low lighting and some B+W photos of celebs. Sort of an 80s in NYC vibe I thought. I arrived on time and... More

This restaurant has to be one of the worst restaurants we have ever eaten in. We booked it as a surprise for my mum's 60th birthday and I phoned up twice in advance to ask if I could bring in a (very expensive) cake that I had designed and ordered from a cake maker. They said we could but it... More

We went here for a friends 30th. We had to wait at least 15 minutes for our drinks order to be taken, then another 15 for the drinks to arrive. Dirty cutlery, the food was nice, but not amazing, certainly not worth the money. We had asked for a birthday cake to be brought out after our desserts. The waiter... More

My wife and I had fantastic meal at Le Caprice last night. The quality of the food is outstanding. If you enjoy really good food, served by happy attentive staff in pleasant surroundings then this is the place for you. We will be returning soon to try other tasty dishes off the interesting menu.

Had dinner with friends to cerebrate a birthday. Wonderful atmosphere, staff are friendly and attentive without being pretentious. In fact the staff looked as if they enjoyed working there. The food was delicious - especially the chocolate fondant! Couldn't fault the whole experience. Lovely bar area, pianist played just the right background music. Look forward to going back again, probably... More

Le Caprice has been going for yonks. Predictability is the order of the day. Nothing to spook the horse, you understand. On the Sunday brunch we attended, the menu contained everything you'd expect. Eggs, smoked salmon, bagels, hamburgers, bloody Marys, you get the idea. You can select from anything at all that's on the longish menu, any way you like... More

Staying in St. James's

Neighborhood Profile
St. James's
Perennially fashionable since the days of Henry VIII, the aristocratic “Clubland” of St James's is a premier destination for high end craft and bespoke design. Here you’ll lose count of the Royal Warrants (which indicate that the Royal Family patronizes the establishment) seen in shop front windows, even during a short stroll to bordering Green Park or St James’s Park. With the brightly lit and constantly buzzing junction of Piccadilly Circus at its northeast corner and none of Central London too far away, this is an surprisingly central and accessible part of town, especially given its prosperous demeanor.
