L'Escargot is the oldest French restaurant in London. However, as a Soho legend, it is very much up to date. Relaxed atmosphere, good food and wine, all reasonably priced. There is no dress code (nudity discouraged !). L'Escargot has been host to stars of stage and screen for many years. Previous clients include, Coco Chanel, John Giulgud, Mick Jagger, Elton John, Ralph Richardson, Judy Dench, and the late Princess Diana. Pre-theatre and post theatre dining is popular and theatre and dinner packages are available. You may just pop in for one course and a cocktail or glass of wine - we look forward to welcoming you.

Got an amazing deal from Living social for chateaubriand, fries and a side for two for £39! it was over 50% off the normal price for the meal. Food was incredible and the decor was very french. There was a pianist playing which gave an incredible ambience to the place. A great night out.

I booked L’Escargot for my networking club’s Summer Party and couldn’t recommend it more. Back in the day it was a posh French restaurant manned by sharp French waiters who would take advantage and baffle you into ordering the most expensive wines. Now it’s a grown up restaurant and members’ club run by industry stalwarts secure in the knowledge that... More

First time to this well established restaurant. We did enjoy our lunch but for some reason everything tasted so salty. Not just the fish which was still good but also the meat and vegetables seemed to have too much salt. It could be that our tastes differ from the chefs it we did leave feeling thirsty! Overall it was quite... More

Quite enjoyed ! Oh dear that's not quite good enough ! I am sorry you felt the food was salty, usually this is not a problem and something must have gone wrong. Please do tell me when you come back and I'll make sure to recompense you for your disappointment - we want those extra two stars !! Brian Clivaz More

Ate here with my parents last night on their Living Social deal which included chatuebriand for four with fries and then one choice of side each. The steak was absolutely to die for, cooked to perfection and available with which ever sauce you wanted (I had peppercorn and it was amazing). The wine is slightly pricey but again lovely, and... When asked by the door greeter if I had had a good day, I said yes especially as it was my birthday. This was obviously noted and the waiter wished me happy birthday. Nice touch. The pre-theatre menu was not extensive but perfectly ok. Food was well presented and delicious, service was quick, restaurant beautifully decorated. I was given a... More

Pre-show dinner 10 July 2015 with two friends. We arrived at 5:00pm for an early meal and were warmly greeted by front of house. Patrick, our waiter for the night, escorted us to a perfect table set to one side of the mirrored and beautifully decorated room, Parisian stye. He was always there when needed but far from obtrusive. Patrick... More

Thank you for the five stars - we hope to see you back very soon. Interestingly Maurie is a very good French dessert wine. Next time pop back after the theatre for a pudding and we'll find you a glass to try. Best wishes and thanks. Brian Clivaz More

This is not a touristic part of Paris. My old friend who visited Paris at least 40 times recommended this little Bistro. What a treat, its not expensive yet the food was so so good, typical French style. It's an honest great food experience for me and my fiance. I shall definitely recommending this to all my family members and... More

I have been coming here for many years (this place is after all a Soho institution) and in that time it has been through various owners and ups-and-downs. Its present incarnation is one of the best - they've clearly been putting something in the lettuce! Food and wine were all of very high quality and service was excellent. It can... More

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review - it is much appreciated. We are delighted that you enjoyed your experience at L'Escargot, especially as you are a long time visitor. I'm going to ask the pianist to tone it down a bit. Best wishes Brian Clivaz More

L'Escargot is an old Soho restaurant that has gone through many facelifts. The current one features large mirrored walls, wooden floor, a warm red colour in the restaurant beyond the bar. Nice, but all reverberative surfaces. The food is excellent. Our group of four enjoyed a superb pork chop, courgetti (courgettes sliced into spaghetti shapes), grilled chicken, sea bass. The "but"... Thank you so much for choosing to come to L'Escargot, I am glad you enjoyed the experience APART from the music. Soho is one of the most eclectic areas in London and has a long theatrical and musical tradition. It is for this reason we are noted, not only for the quality of the food but for the live music,... Staying in Soho

Neighborhood Profile
Soho
The go-to district for a good time in London, Soho hosts a wealth of world-class theatres and a compelling lineup of cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars, and clubs. At Soho's core is London's original Red Light District and the epicenter of the LGBT scene – and thus the city's hottest nightlife. For shopping enthusiasts, Soho is not only the home of London's greatest concentration of boutique shops, but also the most strategic place to set off on a tour of the world's most celebrated department stores. In the southern part of the neighborhood lies Chinatown, with its multitude of delicious and affordable restaurants. Closer to the Thames, Chinatown's narrow and teeming lantern-lit lanes spill onto the expansive hub of glitzy Leicester Square.
