Description: Originally a small oyster bar, J Sheekey preserves an unstuffy and intimate air which has made it a West End favourite for over 100 years. Cosy up in a dark corner in one of this fish restaurant's wood-panelled interconnecting rooms and try not to gawp at the high-profile clientele. The seafood is fresh and delivered with flair, and there's an imaginative vegetarian menu, plus a few meat dishes for non-fish lovers. An unrivalled destination for London theatre-goers. J Sheekey's illustrious 100-year heritage is enhanced by the Oyster Bar just next door, an informal extension of this great London institution. Set around a horseshoe-shaped central dining bar, its wood-panelled walls are lined with photographs of 21st-century theatrical luminaries from John Hurt to Orlando Bloom. The finest seafood includes fresh oysters from West Mersea Island, Cornwall, Northern Ireland and south-west France, along with Shetland mussels and Dublin Bay prawns or caviar and crab. These are enjoyed with an excellent list of Champagnes and sparkling wines by a theatrical and foodie clientele. All fish is responsibly caught from sustainable sources.

At least 30 years since I have been here. As good as ever. Staff brilliant - wanted to sit outside, waiter immediately came and put heaters on (this was a lunchtime in august!!!) and despite being the only people sitting outside service was slick. Loved the foot. Husband thought portions too small but sheekys is a place where you have... More

One of the best fish restaurants I have been too, The starter of crab was heavenly and the scallops were delicious. We took the grilled fish for two as a main and all the fish was really tasty and there was a good variety. The portion sizes were good, our main course was huge! The service is very attentive, efficient... More

A group of us went with the full intention of ordering as much food as we could and sharing it between us so that we could taste many different things. It was wonderful. A proper foodie place. Really great service. Great food. Great fun. Just a great experience. You know when you go out for a meal and everything just... More

I can say honestly that Sheekey's is one of my utter favourites and, having eaten at countless restaurants, I always would choose it. Potted shrimp is fantastic, monk fish curry amazing, everything is divine! I gave up chocolate for a year and the worst part of the 12 months was being unable to have their honey-comb ice cream with hot... More

I went here last night for a business dinner. It was an important event but I was badly let down by the restaurant. The issues were all around service. Our waiter was unfriendly, slow, inattentive and disinterested. I thought this might be an isolated incident but, looking around, I could see plenty of staff hanging around in open dining areas,... Good menu, quick, attentive service and nice ambience. Particularly liked the layout of the restaurant with a number of small areas but still a bit of a buzz

We were referred to this establishment on our first night in London. We wanted light fare and good food. The oysters were some of the best we've eaten. The lobster salad was to die for. The martinis were near perfection. So good, I wanted to go back. Fortunately they own other great restaurants in London and this was only our... More

Very good service and ambience. Food not outstanding but OK. You get the impression that everything is timed and you are on the clock (even though we were not going to the theater that night). Good location (but somewhat difficult to find). They always call our home phone in the US to confirm the reservation even though we are in... More

The reason I gave this an 'excellent' rating is solely down to the service. This restaurant has a really, really high standard. This was my first visit in a number of years and I have to say that from the moment I arrived at the reception I was impressed and this is really saying something. If seafood is your thing... More
