Description: Originally a small oyster bar, J Sheekey preserves an unstuffy and intimate air which has made it a West End favourite for over 100 years. Cosy up in a dark corner in one of this fish restaurant's wood-panelled interconnecting rooms and try not to gawp at the high-profile clientele. The seafood is fresh and delivered with flair, and there's an imaginative vegetarian menu, plus a few meat dishes for non-fish lovers. An unrivalled destination for London theatre-goers. J Sheekey's illustrious 100-year heritage is enhanced by the Oyster Bar just next door, an informal extension of this great London institution. Set around a horseshoe-shaped central dining bar, its wood-panelled walls are lined with photographs of 21st-century theatrical luminaries from John Hurt to Orlando Bloom. The finest seafood includes fresh oysters from West Mersea Island, Cornwall, Northern Ireland and south-west France, along with Shetland mussels and Dublin Bay prawns or caviar and crab. These are enjoyed with an excellent list of Champagnes and sparkling wines by a theatrical and foodie clientele. All fish is responsibly caught from sustainable sources.

have not eaten here for some time and was delighted to find that it has not changed...nice cosy atmosphere, good service, without being stiff, not over expensive and oh yes the food is excellent.. its also nice to be allocated a good length of time in which to eat rather than a 2hour slot, a pet hate of mine..

Great ambience combined with good but not overbearing service and excellent healthy food at a reasonable price for the quality of the experience. Unlike other excellent places to dine in London they haven't become complacent despite their success.

Opt for the Oyster bar on the left as it's more informal & you have a wide selection of plates to feast upon (not just oysters!). Always save space for a dessert or two. Friendly & helpful staff; have a chat to the knowledgeable bar chefs for recommendations.

Having been several time over the years but not recently, it was a bit of a shock to see the usual decent if not spectacular food accompanied by a rather stiff bill. Every element seemed a few pounds overpriced and it all added up. The wine list too started highish and then went rapidly north. Not so much fun anymore.

Went here for an anniversary and decided to go for the bar seating area as it seemed a little more fun. It was lovely setting for our anniversary, amazing oysters, clams and the lobster burger. A MUST GO if you love oysters.

Once again an excellent sea food platter, wine and service. Dropped in on the off chance there was space at the bar and were looked after royally.

I have walked past this restaurant probably 100 times over the years and never thought of venturing inside, probably because of the obscured glass in the windows and the doorman on the steps. A friend suggested that we had fish and chips for dinner and suggested J Sheekey. We were lucky enough to get a table without booking (but I... More

Sheekey is best known for its seafood and fish dishes, very close to theatre land. We visited this restaurant on Saturday 18th October for lunch, this was our first time ever. The atmosphere was calm and also had an elegant charm about it with the white linen tablecloths and napkins, the staff were very professional and courteous at all times.... More

Great restaurant and right in the heart of the city. The service is second to none. The food was absolutely perfect. Oysters, fish dishes and even the non-fish dishes were superb. Expensive but not stupidly priced. We want in a Saturday lunch time, busy but got a table, staff were helpful, knowledgable and not intrusive. Will be going again!

Yes , it's rather funny that many years ago this restaurant had been the old unreliable for rather too many years , along came Corbin and king , and they made this a destination restaurant , with the Freshest fish , sharp very friendly service , and this quality that's hard to define , a vibe I always choose the...
