Description: Originally a small oyster bar, J Sheekey preserves an unstuffy and intimate air which has made it a West End favourite for over 100 years. Cosy up in a dark corner in one of this fish restaurant's wood-panelled interconnecting rooms and try not to gawp at the high-profile clientele. The seafood is fresh and delivered with flair, and there's an imaginative vegetarian menu, plus a few meat dishes for non-fish lovers. An unrivalled destination for London theatre-goers. J Sheekey's illustrious 100-year heritage is enhanced by the Oyster Bar just next door, an informal extension of this great London institution. Set around a horseshoe-shaped central dining bar, its wood-panelled walls are lined with photographs of 21st-century theatrical luminaries from John Hurt to Orlando Bloom. The finest seafood includes fresh oysters from West Mersea Island, Cornwall, Northern Ireland and south-west France, along with Shetland mussels and Dublin Bay prawns or caviar and crab. These are enjoyed with an excellent list of Champagnes and sparkling wines by a theatrical and foodie clientele. All fish is responsibly caught from sustainable sources.

A pre-theater dinner was uneven with some delicious dishes and some true disappointments. How a renowned kitchen could turn our a dry grilled Dover sole, reputed their signature dish, and delicious slip soles meuniere, or a delicious tuna tartare and an abysmal unripe tomato salad is a mystery. The tables are crowded, the noise levels high make conversation difficult; and,... More

Not been here for years, it's still a lovely room with great staff and very attentive service. Food good but not superb, I suppose I am used to amazing fish in Dartmouth down where I live, certainly the Seahorse in Dartmouth run by Mitch Tonks is better and cheaper. Menu interesting but it is certainly pricey, though of course you... More

Have dined here during previous trips to London. Lively atmosphere, very good food, and great for people watching. Expect to spend about $150 US for dinner.

The chef at Ape & Bird Polpo recommended J. Sheekey for the best seafood in London. I couldn't agree more! Our hotel concierge could not get us in on a busy Saturday night, but we took a chance and walked in, and they couldn't have been nicer, we had the choice of a table or the bar, and we chose... More

I always come here for special occasions, and it's always been a great experience. The service is good, the atmosphere is good, the food is delicious... My only comment would be that the quality and presentation of the food has slipped a little bit. This is still a first class restaurant, but I think there is some room for improvement.... More

I took my wife, father and sister to eat at J Sheekey one evening. While my soup starter was OK, I noticed that no one else seemed to really be enjoying and there was a strong smell of fish from my wife's dish. We pressed on but then all 4 main courses were just wrong (undercooked, overcooked, no flavour, too... More

The best seafood restaurant I have had the pleasure of enjoying. Our party of 8 would agree this was one of the best meal we had over a week of eating at several London restaurants. After having Dover Sole on two previous occasions, theirs was by far the best. They serve it as a 16oz or 22oz portion, the 16oz... More

Seats outside for theatreland watching. Wine v expensive at 7gbp a cheap glass. Oysters lovely as were the snacks but all tiny portions and way overpriced despite being cooked well. One for the tourists or rich londoners really.
