Description: Originally a small oyster bar, J Sheekey preserves an unstuffy and intimate air which has made it a West End favourite for over 100 years. Cosy up in a dark corner in one of this fish restaurant's wood-panelled interconnecting rooms and try not to gawp at the high-profile clientele. The seafood is fresh and delivered with flair, and there's an imaginative vegetarian menu, plus a few meat dishes for non-fish lovers. An unrivalled destination for London theatre-goers. J Sheekey's illustrious 100-year heritage is enhanced by the Oyster Bar just next door, an informal extension of this great London institution. Set around a horseshoe-shaped central dining bar, its wood-panelled walls are lined with photographs of 21st-century theatrical luminaries from John Hurt to Orlando Bloom. The finest seafood includes fresh oysters from West Mersea Island, Cornwall, Northern Ireland and south-west France, along with Shetland mussels and Dublin Bay prawns or caviar and crab. These are enjoyed with an excellent list of Champagnes and sparkling wines by a theatrical and foodie clientele. All fish is responsibly caught from sustainable sources.

Sheekey is best known for its seafood and fish dishes, very close to theatre land. We visited this restaurant on Saturday 18th October for lunch, this was our first time ever. The atmosphere was calm and also had an elegant charm about it with the white linen tablecloths and napkins, the staff were very professional and courteous at all times.... More

Great restaurant and right in the heart of the city. The service is second to none. The food was absolutely perfect. Oysters, fish dishes and even the non-fish dishes were superb. Expensive but not stupidly priced. We want in a Saturday lunch time, busy but got a table, staff were helpful, knowledgable and not intrusive. Will be going again!

Yes , it's rather funny that many years ago this restaurant had been the old unreliable for rather too many years , along came Corbin and king , and they made this a destination restaurant , with the Freshest fish , sharp very friendly service , and this quality that's hard to define , a vibe I always choose the... Sheekey know sea food. In fact they probably invented it. This is a Pescetarian's paradise. The atmosphere of the restaurant is one of sophisticated calm; genteel and elegant. Service is only ever an arm's length away and although I didn't test it to the limit I'm sure that their floor management take the view that nothing is too much trouble... More

Oysers, whole white fish cooked to perfection, good bottle of st emillion, and a glass of sweet wine with a sticky pud. I hadnt been for a few years, and it really was good, but the staff have the attitude they are doing you a favour and you are lucky to be there. Honestly, in London there are enough great... More

Reservations are a must. Lots of theatre memorabilia and the look of yesteryear with food that is today. Experienced servers familiar with the menu...you can't go wrong with your selection. Close your eyes and point at any menu section.Great music.

J Sheekey Oyster Bar is set in St Martins Court in the heart of theater land. The area pulses with life and a myriad of people. The restaurant is elegant, very clean and well laid out and always busy so make sure that you book! The menu is (mainly) fish, varied and very tempting. You will be welcomed at the... More

J Sheekey has a long-established reputation as an excellent, iconic oyster and seafood bar. Does it live up to its name? You get that old English stuffy atmosphere as soon as you walk through the door and meet a rather stiff-looking hostess. I personally prefer a little warmth, a welcoming smile that says 'how can I help?', but that wasn't... More

Be sure to book in advance lest you might - with some luck - only get to sit at the bar, if at all. No need to discuss the food which is excellent and fresh (Oysters a must) and the service, though staff changes over the years, is always very attentive, knowledgeable and courteous. The ideal place for pre and... More

A white tablecloth restaurant that attracts a lot of suited businessmen at lunch time, this place turns out very fresh, lovely fish and seafood. I loved their gravlax on a pretty oval glass plate with a creamy mustard sauce and pickled cucumber as well as the fish and chips. The haddock was puffy and lightly battered and tasty. It also...
