Enjoying iconic status across the city, Hawksmoor Spitalfields has built a reputation for offering the finest steaks in London. Oozing old-school glamour, the suave dining room features shabby-chic brickwork and old school wooden furnishings, offset by a littering of trendy kitsch trinkets. Alongside a celebrated selection of dictionary-thick meat cuts, Hawksmoor favourites include plum pudding belly ribs, or smooth potted smoked mackerel.

Best steak in London

This is our go-to restaurant for special occasions. It's definitely on the pricey side but the steak really is the best in London. The staff are always lovely and the BYO wine on Mondays is a good way to have a great bottle of wine and not end up with a huge bill.

Had the most gorgeous evening here for a friends' birthday last night. The staff were super-helpful and kind, and after an initial muddle with the booking (not their fault) they found us a great table in the bustling restaurant. Service, ambiance, and food were all fantastic. We all commented on how delicious the steak was - worth every penny. The... More

We ordered the sirloin and T bone steaks - Medium rare. The cuts were thick, succulent and perfectly done. Dont miss the triple fried chips - fried in beef fat !! Sinfully tasty and simply out of the world. Waiters serve with an old world charm rarely seen now-a-days. Its pricey but definitly worth the extravagance if you can afford... More

Came on Tuesday night was greeted by a really polite enthusiastic host who sat us down with the menus. We sat down and a waitress took our drinks order and then our food order. I couldn't help but notice that there were two men sat next to us had ordered their food after us And received their food before.. They... More

As a South African I am very fussy about my meat and how it's cooked, I approached Hawksmoor with some trepidation - but I have to say it was one of the best steaks I have had in the UK. Sides were good too - we had samphire and mash and it was all well seasoned and perfectly cooked. The... More

Have just returned from the hawksmoor after celebrating my sisters birthday. It was my first visit and it was great, once you've got your head around the various cuts of steak they offer and the sizes the only decision is to share or not to share. 3 of us shared a T bone which was delicious, as were the side... This restaurant is on Commercial St, near to Spitalfields / Liverpool St. Having previously visited their Covent Garden site, we decided to go for Sunday lunch, a speciality of the Hawksmoor chain. Booking is recommended as it gets vey busy as it is close to the nearby Spitalfields / Brick Lane Sunday markets. Service was prompt and efficient, with the... More

Dinner for 4 on a Saturday evening. Excellent selection of cocktails at the bar, mixed by people who know what they're doing. The cocktail menu includes a suggested hour-by-hour drinking schedule to get serious drinkers through the day - my kind of place! The restaurant is friendly and relaxed, and the service is spot-on - there when you want it,... More

Tucked away in the basement through an unglorified door next to the main entrance to the Hawkesmoor restaurant. This restaurant is a great place to meet a friend for a quit drink. When we visited there was no music and from 4 to 6pm for the duration of our visit it remained quiet. The interior is dark, yet comfortable with... More

From the food to the service only one word adequately sums up my experience. Mediocre. The staff were pretentious for no reason as the place certainly didn't warrant being haughty. What was in short supply was service professionalism. From the moment we walked in the staff seemed like they couldn't be bothered serving. That's fine. What's abundant in attitude can... More

Staying in Spitalfields

Neighborhood Profile
Spitalfields
For a glimpse of Georgian and Victorian London at its most pristine, or a peek into what's apt to be the next big global trend, the hipster zone of Spitalfields can provide hours of amazement. Around the clock, this is a haven for early morning bargain hunters sizing up its street markets, foodie foragers throughout the day, or late night revelers hitting some of London's most popular bars and clubs.

Wedged between the business-minded City of London, expressly trendy Shoreditch, and zestful Whitechapel, the lines between traditional and contemporary beautifully blur in this historic East End nexus.
